6870 is a lot stronger card than 560. The only reason why 560 beats it in SC2 is because Nvidia "helped" Blizzard "optimize" the code for Nvidia cards.

Had to wait a bit longer than expected but now im ready to buy...
CPU Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core - $169.99
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 ATX LGA1155 - $129.99
Memory G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 - $46.99
Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - $94.99 + Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5" SSD - $99.99
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2GB - $507.55
Case Corsair 400R ATX Mid Tower - $74.99
Power Supply Corsair 750W ATX12V / EPS12V - $129.99
Optical Drive Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer - $17.99
Heatsink: I have a Hyper 212 Evo
Total: $1272.47
Questions
1. I can get the 2500k for 169.99 at my local. Should I get that and overclock? Or would it be better to just get the new ivy 3550? How much should I overclock whichever your reccomending?
2. Mushkin 120gb or Crucial 128gb?
3. Is 750w overkill? What wattage should i get?
4. I like fast (who doesn't). Is the speed increase significant enough to justify a 256gb SSD?
5. Do I need more cooling? Or liquid cooling?
Thanks again guys

1) For $170, just get the i5 2500k. 2) Crucial. 3) Yes, 500W is all you need. 4) Depends on how much space you need. 5) No, if you can reuse that Evo.
Note: I would ditch the Barracuda and just get a high density 5400RPM drive. I would also ditch the motherboard and get an MSI, Asrock, or Asus board. No reason to bother with a Gigabyte board.

2500k at that price is better. You can probably overclock to around 4.8Ghz fine but around 4.6 might be more appropriate if you want to play it safe.
Crucial is better but that's a pretty nice price even so.
750W is overkill yes, I'd go with some decent 450-500W unit personally such as Rosewill 450 or whatever.
It's not really noticeable, so no if you'd go for 256Gb just for its higher speed in comparison to 128gb SSD. You could try RAID0-ing 64GB SSDs or something but I really don't think you'd even notice the difference. Just buy an actually faster SSD like Vertex 4 or something.

They're practically even, if anything 560 has a very slight advantage. If SC2 is your concern 560 is an obvious choice.

A core i5 does not use 110w, a Third Generation Core processor is going to use around / less than 50w under load. Power supplies are most efficient at 50% and all modern good units are rated for continuous wattage. The CPU and GPU are by far the most power hungry components in a configuration, the rest of it is like a joke.

do you have to buy from that shop? their selection of gfx cards is pathetic at best.
in general i wouldnt buy a 560 tbh since its basicly just a higher clocked 460. also 145punds, isnt that like over 180€? for that price you can get a really nice 560ti and arent far from the first 560ti 448core cards. or you go for the cheap version and get either a 6850(~100-120€) or a 6870 (~120-140€).
you are missing a optical drive and as you said a hdd. optional would be a cpu cooler for nicer temps and less noise, but its not needed since you cant really overclock with that cpu.
and yes 430w is enough. i have a 450w one for my 2500k and 560ti448 which both need (way) more power then what you have listed there :>

pls answer the questions in the first spoiler in the OP in your post to get solid advice. do that and im sure youll quickly have nice build recommended from our techheads.
and if you just wanna play games with it that budget is like double of what you need for a sick ass gaming machine.

Oh sorry just came into the middle of this thread, didnt see the OP
+ Show Spoiler +What is your budget? My budget would be around ~$2350 What is your resolution? Will be getting a 1920x1080 120hz screen shortly after i buy the computer. What are you using it for?I will game while streaming and i want to be able to stream at a really high quality as my internet would allow it. Will also be doing some photoshop, after effects and compiling of computer software. What is your upgrade cycle?About 5 years. When do you plan on building it?I will order the parts sometime this week. Do you plan on overclocking?I'm planning on overclocking the processor abit, yes. Do you need an Operating System? Not reall.y Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Not that i'm aware of, but who knows. Maybe in the future. Where are you buying your parts from?I will be buying it from http://www.inet.se which is a Swedish site.

6870 has an advantage stock vs stock: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4344/nvidias-geforce-gtx-560-top-to-bottom-overclock
To sum it up, the main games nvidia win in are showcase games like hawkx and dirt (and sc2) where the code is manipulated by their staff. 6870 draws less power, but is worse at compute (because fermi). 560 might overclock further though. Maybe I exaggerated a bit by saying a lot stronger, but it's still the better card.

phenom II x4 920(@3.5) radeon 6850
Im planning to upgrade my graphics card and have been testing all the games i play on the lowest settings possible to test my processor's bottleneck. i was wondering should i turn my resolution down when testing this or should i leave it at the resolution i usually and plan to continue to play at(1600x900)?

You can't test for a CPU bottleneck when you only have one card and one processor...?

If you want to properly get a CPU limited framerate, you drop to minimum resolution, and turn down all GPU dependent settings to the minimum.
Unless you're worried about CPU dependent games that are already CPU limited, though, you probably shouldn't worry about the CPU at all, just get enough GPU for your needs. Only a handful of games will be bottlenecked by the CPU, and most of those, you can pretty much max at that res with a 6850.

IF the 3570k and Z77 board is 250 total then HELL YEAH.
|
3570k and Z77 for less than a 3450 and H77 is obvious choice. 3570k and Z77 is better and less expensive in your case.
That Pareema kit sucks.

If you want to play SC2 mostly, 560 is an obvious choice. Also it's better in games like BF3 which uses a modern engine that will be used for future games as well, so it's worth quite a bit more than something like crysis
