Nonetheless not having LAN support would still screw over a lot of the people doing smaller LAN parties without proper internet access if BNet2.0 really doesn't include any kind of offline mode. I'd imagine if Battle.net is ever going to go down Blizzard would release a patch for offline support like Valve promised for Steam if it was ever going to shut down. Also I guess that day will be far far away and we'll have few 3rd party BNet2.0 servers by then. Wow ur a retard.. u know that WoW is an mmorpg right? if there was a LAN option people would cheat so hard.

LAN is old. LAN was for multiplayer gaming when not everyone had broadband internet. You can still have "LAN" parties, you just won't click a little button that says "LAN" first, I know it's scary; but be brave. You'll just sign onto your multiplayer accounts and play each other, or anyone else for that matter. You'll still be connected to a router together, so don't worry, Blizzard isn't cutting your nerd umbilical cords. Jesus...

Second of all, connecting to BNet 2.0 from one modem with several computers would cause immense lag on a LAN party...

[EDIT]And to the person talking about "nerd umbilical cords," I'm just curious, have you been to a LAN party? It's, generally, a completely different experience than playing online. You've got face to face interaction with your allies/opponents. In Starcraft, for example, not only do you get to enjoy some games, be manner type out gg, etc. But you can also go back and watch the replay and whatnot with your opponent right next to you and discuss strats, how eachother should improve, and whatever else comes up. It's a much more personal experience than just joining some pub games, or hell even doing online clan wars with people you know.

I don't know how it works, but something like that should work in theory. But if it'd work like that, then I can imagine it being hacked. And, mind me, SC lags a lot when played through bnet on local netowkr, but I guess that's because of old code or sth. Nevertheless, it's still one feature less. I'd rather pay a monthly/yearly fee for battle.net than have no LAN support. I understand their piracy concerns, and probably cutting LAN would do the job for some of the pirating crew, but IF they make battle.net awesome enough, with all those coveted VODs and stuff, then people WILL buy it.

Move out of your shanty, or go to an internet cafe or something, that's just really sad. =(

First of all its not even that much work for the game makers and makes hosting lan events that much easier with no fear of lag or problems they can not fix, also what about those with no internet connection? Yeah, you spoiled brats, there are people with no internet connection wanting to play the game.

i want to play it at home with people in my room on a modem connection. LAN might be outdated (as was ipx/spx) but it's gonna be way faster for me because i know there ain't gonna be no farms of servers in Croatia. i think this is a anti-piracy trend that Blizzard is picking up from Electronic Arts ( and they suck ass), as their games such as NFS doesn't have LAN support ( requiers to play over EA game service ) and when the game becomes outdated, they just shut down the servers and you have a game with no multiplayer. i say, screw that. they need to invent another anti-piracy technique. or this is targeted on "gamers with new PC, broadband, monthly income and living in EU,USA,China or South Korea". I iz a sad panda.

And there are many situations in which broadband access is not available. Flat out, if LAN can offer better pings than internet, thats what the progamers will want. It doesnt matter to you or me if there is an 20ms extra ping, but it might mean a lot to a progamer. If blizzard removes lan, they will be making a big mistake. Pirates will pirate. If bnet 2.0 is what they crack it up to be, pirates will buy so they can play on bnet 2.0. If they remove LAN as a method to stop piracy, then I will lose a lot of faith in blizzard as it is stupid and just hurts the people who want to play legit.

but in all honesty, Bnet 2.0 doesnt need no lan to succeed so theres no need to remove it.

There will always be FSGS-style applications available because Battle.net is little more than a matchmaking service, which can be emulated. I'm confident that Blizzard will include various forms of support for LAN tournaments using their new Battle.net service, though, so for most players (even those who play heavily at LAN events) the point is probably moot. For the remainder of users who wish to hold segregated offline tournaments, don't be at all surprised to see a new FSGS version arise.

If Bnet 2.0 is as good as Blizzard says it will be, then there is nothing to fear from pirates. Removing LAN to force people to use Bnet will just piss people off since LAN has its own unique advantages that regular online does not. LAN provides lag-free gameplay, and it's pretty much the standard for pro-gaming tournaments. Blizzard has nothing to gain and everything to lose by removing LAN from the game. It will only generate controversy and damage their reputation, and hackers will just create private servers anyway.
