The qualifiers for the final GSL season of the year have concluded, with Zoun, Maru, DongRaeGu, and Rogue earning direct seeds into Code S, while sixteen other players qualified for Code A. Last season's top four of PartinG, Bunny, Dark, and Trap are also seeded into Code S.

More players are returning to the GSL fray after completing their military service, with Classic, Leenock, RyunG, and GuMiho all set to play in Code A. However, herO was unable to make the cut in his first qualifier attempt after his return, losing out to RyunG in a last-chance match. The new season will begin on Monday, Aug 16 9:30am GMT (GMT+00:00), with the exact Code A match-ups to be announced at a later date.
Overall, four spots changed hands since GSL Season 2:
I feel like there's more active Koreans than in a long time; there were many interesting names in the qualifier. Maybe it's time to have GSL to be more robust for more players? eg expanding Code S to 32 players and making Code A bigger?
Not really, I dont think they need to expand the tournament at this moment. I mean who are the notable players that missing from code A? herO, forGG, and Hurricane? Its not like the competition is so fierced that top players wont be able to make it in the current format. Even in Code A, there are already are couple of 3-0 matches where the games werent that close. So I think having the bigger player pool will negatively impact the quality of the tournament.

Not sure I agree with expanding Code S at this time until the veterans really prove themselves to be deserving of the Code S title, but they could expand Code A
instead of 8 bo5 matches (16 players with 8 advancing), we could have 4 groups of 5 players each (20 players with 8 advancing)

Hurricane has not played a single map every since losing to SoS in S2 code A, maybe he decided to retire or he maybe just giving himself a break, might have to see if he participates in Rog qualifiers.

Might mitigate the chances of one of the two best players in Code A having to be eliminated if the top players are drawn together.
Does make for a more exciting Code A, but does ultimately potentially take away from Code S a bit I find.
