I basically agree with Shuffleblade.. In an industry like esports, it's not reasonable to make a player wait a week to announce something like this while they could be looking for a new team. A day or two until every internally knows is appropriate, however, so that context really affects this.

Even if it's not reasonable or appropriate, though, Special shouldn't announce this on his own. It's a bad sign to future potential teams that this player isn't very reliable or responsible with information.

Not really surprised to say that Chivo disbanded, I hope Ragnarok finds a team soon. SpeCiaL is always the center of some SC2 eSports drama duh not surprised there either lol.... Amazing players though nevertheless.

It's nothing new from him, people should already expect him doing things like this.

Anyway, let's hope the players and streamers find teams or sponsors soon.

Lol that's the opposite of unprofessional. If you find yourself unemployed, you are supposed to announce it immediately and shout it from the rooftops so you can find your next oppurtunity as a professional. Get ahead of it. You dont owe anything to a faceless organization.

That faceless organization has been paying him (and a lot of other players/streamers) for a year, and he has had 0 problems with them as he said. If they tell you to wait a couple of days so that the rest of people can receive the news and they can release a public statement, you should be able to be professional enough to wait those 2 days without writing a fucking tweet about it (preceeded by a tweet complaining about your bad luck or the universe conspiring against you or some 14yo shit). Maybe even he could say he is looking for a team and not say that Chivo has disbanded, which affects a lot of people.

Professional is not doing exactly the opposite thing your employers ask you to do.

But no. "Fuck it, those 2 days are gonna be key to find a new team, so I don't care... also I will say that the team is disbanding before some of my teammates even know even though I've been told not to do it". That's professional according to you.

Uh, they arent his employer. That went up in the air the second they disbanded. The employer who asks you to put your livelyhood on hold for some sort of waiting period while you dont get paid is certainly the one being unprofessional. This is basic HR. If they continued to pay him and made him sign an NDA or something in that regard, sure. But doesnt seem to be the case. If you get relieved from a job, dont wait, get your name out there immediately. Pretty simple.

You act like people can't look for a job without shouting their unemployment to the heavens. It is entirely possible to get in contact with people privately over DMs/email/text/phone and look for a job that way. If there is a planned announcement at a set time, it's incredibly unprofessional to make that announcement ahead of time.

In eSports? No. you can't. In fact, in eSports, like in most industries, you go through your network first to find a job. So Special doesn't announce it, but goes to TY and says "hey amigo, you know of any teams looking for awesome Mexican terrans?". The first thing TY is gonna do is ask why. What is Special supposed to say then? Lie? And then TY asks around on Special's behalf... sounds like the word is out there anyway. The professional SC2 world is tiny: they all know one another. It's like if a football manager loses his job. People are going to want to know why Pep Guardiola is shopping around for a new team and the Sun will have it plastered all over their frontpage 2 minutes after he sends an email to Barça.

TO the first thing - depends how it works. As far aas I understand they asked for a week of silence, not a week of doing nothing. Special mentioned how much good they have done, mayhbe he could have repaid with a week of silence on social media while not saying anything to the rumors spreading around. To me it seems as a normal thing.

Also usually companies pay you a fee to keep you officially silent.

Edit> he could have said to TY - well, I'm looking for a new job. + Show Spoiler +
I'm going on the work related interviews from time to time in case somebody will outbid my current emplyer.
But he could have even said - look, Chivo is closing down, please keep it to yourself and don't spread the information via any official channel. Rumors and speculations would have been created but...

What's this about a week? It's not even 2 hours. Major/Special couldn't hold it in for less than 2 hours that it would had taken to confirm that all team members have recieved the message.

On the other hand, if you are no longer paid even for that 1 hour, it's unjustifiable to try to dictate behaviour of another person who you now have no contract with.

I totally agree with Chivo's decision to not announce publicly until they've told everyone in private - it's the respectful thing to do. It's the same reason news outlets don't release the names of victims until the families have been notified. That's obviously a much more extreme example, but the concept is similar. Important news should be delivered through official channels first to the parties most affected by it before it goes public.

Regarding the actual news - my sympathies for everyone involved. It sounds like Chivo was a good organization with good players and I hope everyone finds new homes in short order. Good luck!

I don't think those thoughts are compatible.

There's not enough money being made in esports for a progamer to have to show employer loyalty that would be considered ridiculous in any other job (I'd argue that getting paid millions like a pro athlete doesn't require this either). The guy lost his job, and he wants a new one ASAP. There's nothing special (har har) about SC2 progaming that makes fans entitled to self-detrimental behavior from progamers to serve some romantic notion of "sports professionalism" that doesn't actually exist.

CranK just said on stream that apparently Special broke the embargo about the team disbandment. From what I hear it seems like it was supposed to be tmr when it's announced but special outright just said it today. He seemed pretty pissed on stream, and it been a few months since I saw him that displeased on cam.

Why would there be an embargo on someone losing their team? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Special needs to worry about himself and get his name out there so he can find a new team.

In normal circumstances, yes. But the thing is, Chivo didn't have people who only live in Korea.
The management wanted him to wait for a day until they manage the time difference.
Ragnarok was allowed to show he "LEFT" the team, NOT to mention the team itself has disbanded.

He only had to wait A DAY for it. No wonder CranK would be furious.
Besides the fact that his wife was the manager.
She had every right to announce that, don't you think?

Maybe the things wouldn't have that bad if he just didn't mention about the disbandment.

I dont know whats more sad the discussion being about me wanting to find a new team or people failing to realise that a very important sc2 team just closed their doors.

And to people that keep saying was just a day bro not it wasnt they told me to wait a week dont wanna put the screenshot for respect to olivia so getting mad at me for not waiting a whole week without pay until i can find a new job its fucking ridiculous

I don't think people fail to realize that an important team just went away, we're just very use to it at this point in SC2's history.

Special has bills to pay and a right to immediately look for work. Really disappointing that people are trying to paint him as a bad guy.

I think if they asked him to withhold the info for a day, two at max, I would think it wasn't professional to announce it himself. A week is a long time, especially being teamless

i was going to post about how sad this news was, and going to ask wasn't soo in chivo at one point but they let him go, so it was probably writing on the wall they didn't have good financials.

instead i see people getting outraged that special announced this. who cares. seriously. if your employer makes you sign an NDA you have to abide by it, but if your employer implodes then nobody cares.
