This is a very weird setup and encourages "strategic voting".
(1) results are visible, so you know what is happening (2) the 4th spot going to the highest second place has all kinds of strategies associated with how you should then vote.
In my case, I would like to see (Reynor), Scarlett and Harstem. Because of (1), I can see that Reynor is pretty safe. Between Harstem and Scarlett, I prefer Scarlett. So I should really not vote for Harstem, because he is going to lose to Showtime anyway, so a vote for Harstem increases the chance of Scarlett not being the highest second place...
This should *really* have used Borda or Condorcet voting just like the TLMC vote.

I do agree with Acrofales, the results should not be visible to avoid strategic votes.
I go for Kelazhur, Harstem and Elazer !
|
I don't think hiding the results would really make them 'better'. In a first past the post system, the results would be flawed no matter how you do it. I would rather have strategic voting than to have a player I don't like advance over a player I do because I voted for someone with no chance. The solution is a different voting system.

It would probably be more fair if the votes were hidden, but honestly the results are pretty predictable regardless.

No complains about TIME being invited? Are we losing our purity here at TL?
|
Why no Alphastar in the poll
|
ppl voting scarlett over Reynor. what a joke.
i prefer uthermal over heromarine vs korean opposition tbh, but its understandable heromarine gets the vote. showtime is a no brainer.

Time might just be the 2nd best foreign terran acutally. its between him, heromarine and uthermal. results wise, its probably uthermal, but cmon, Time is so much better than anyone else in china, inviting him should be a given

If people see Reynor is very likely to make it, then they may vote for someone else to get the 4th spot. That's not necessarily picking Scarlett "over" Reynor. Voting solely for your #1 choice in this kind of poll can be a waste of your vote. That's the rational behind "strategic voting".

Compare their WCS Circuit results. Scarlett did well in the welfare tournament of the welfare circuit. Reynor is a 2-time WCS Champion.

Reynor has a 50% win ratio against koreans and he reached ro16 in Code S before being able to play in WCS, I wouldn't say he isn't a threat. And ZvZ isn't that volatile, we aren't speaking of BW.

Come on, vote on thermy or harstem! We have the chance to see scarlett in every season of GSL, but we hardly ever see our EU boys!
|
I have to agree that Harstem or Thermy would be more interesting since we see Scarlett vs KR all the time and her results there have been less than stellar as of late (though better than some here give her credit for). I doubt she'll lose a popularity contest though

i feel bad for a lot of the players who deserve to be here but won't get the votes needed

Am I the only one who thinks this format kinda sucks? Why do I have to vote for a particular race? Why can’t I just vote for my top four instead (outside the invites, which I tend to agree with for the most part)? For example, I voted for ShoWTimE in Protoss but in all honesty I don’t think any of the World Protoss player options are worthy of being included. None of them have done enough to deserve top eight consideration. Showtime is top 8 in the WCS standings and made top 4 at WCS Summer. If he doesn't deserve top 8 consideration there's nobody else who deserves your vote in his stead either. This vote is actually leading to Team World getting represented by the top 8 players in WCS, except Scarlett (#9 in WCS) is gonna take Elazer's spot.
My point was using ShoWTimE as an example: I would’ve been much happier voting for two Zergs than a Protoss in World because I feel that Reynor, Scarlett and Elazer all have done more to deserve an invite to this than ShoWTimE whom I consider the top World Protoss candidate. Scarlett is behind him in WCS Standings, yes: but those do not account for the two GSLs she played in and her top four finish at WESG. The argument was more about the fact that there were more deserving players in other race factions this year. And before you ask - I’m a Protoss apologist. :-)

And before you ask - I’m a Protoss apologist. :-) The GSLs she played in where she accomplished nothing beyond qualifying? Those make up the gap in WCS points between Scarlett and Elazer because she decided not to play WCS Spring. So basically Showtime is slightly ahead in WCS and slightly behind in non-WCS of both of them. He also has the most recent strong performance and generally seems to have an upward trend in his form. I don't think the 2 are objectively more deserving than him, preference I suppose. Reynor doesn't need discussion obviously.
But all of that is of course beside the point that Blizzard want to have a relatively even racial distribution because people just don't like certain match-ups. Mirrors in particular have gotten a lot of hate over the years. And that's why you can't vote for multiple players of the same race. And probably a reason they changed the format for this year with no prior notice, because it's the first time since GSL vs The World was created that the top 4 of WCS Korea didn't have every race represented.

I find it pretty upsetting, being Chinese is no qualification to represent the whole foreign scene. Where is the Polish, French, German, etc. representative then? Funnily enough, I would have voted for him since he is very strong, and is only surpassed, in the terran category, by special, who has a spot and heromarine, who has atrocious personality.

And they also hide Taiwanese flag every year and I dislike it every year.
