HomeStory Cup XVII

At the end of a four-day saga, O'Gaming's (Wiki)INnoVation rose from a field of 32 competitors to claim the HomeStory Cup XVII championship. Despite some shaky performances along the way—including losses to PartinG, Snute, and Solar—the machine Terran was able to make a forceful run through the losers bracket to claim the HSC championship.

Liquipedia doesn't classify this version of HSC as a premier tournament.

Technically, liquipedia did not classify this as a Premier tournament. No idea why, but some HSCs are labelled premier and others major.

Regardless of that, Inno's beaten soO in the finals of GSL, IEM, VSL, and now HSC.

I would imagine it has to do with prize pool. What's odd is there were some tournaments back in WoL with significantly smaller prize pools that were considered premier. e.g. 2011 MLG Global Invitational with its $4,000 prize pool.

Makes sense.

Or rather, it still doesn't make sense, but at least now I understand why it doesn't make sense. You'd think the players in attendance would matter more than prizepools, or else we'd all be hailing WESG as one of the toughest tournaments in the world.

With the environment of HSC being what it is, I'd personally classify them all as Major. The whole point is that it's a fun tourney, not a super-serious competition. Like Incontrol said, openly discussing dildos is not really a thing in WCS.

Double elimination tournaments either give the player out of the winner's bracket a second life in case he loses the finals or a single-game advantage. HSC followed the path of pretty much all double elimination tournaments with a bo5+ finals in going with the latter. That's why soO had 3 points despite only winning 2 games.

But then TaeJa wouldn't have won the most premier tournaments

It s uncanny at this point, Soo beat Inno in the earlier rounds, got one game up in the finals and still managed to not win the title vs Innovation.

According to liquipedia - Premier Tournaments offer an outstanding prize pool, are frequently played out offline, and feature the best players from all over the world. They are commonly held by well-established franchises and are considered especially prestigious amongst the community.

Personally don't think HSC counts for most of that. But then again SSL challenge and Cross finals do apparently.

On another note, I do think WeSG as a competition is underrated. People seem to disregard it completely in terms of TY/Maru's achievements.
