Poor ByuL :/ Amongst players still active in Korea in 2018, he was the last big name without a Premier under his belt, wasn't he? Losira, Patience and KeeN are the next big names, but they are way lesser players than ByuL.

Shame he couldn't get the gold in the end but at least he left his mark with one of the strongest peaks from a Zerg. His LBM was amazing when he was on his game. He left many great games behind too: + Show Spoiler + you forgot Byul vs Revival, best game of all time

I see lots of people blaming region lock, I do not think that that is as big of a factor in this case as ByuL really didn't compete in many of the online leagues/cups that most Korean pros rely on for money. Though it is my personal opinion that more should be done to foster/keep Korean Code A level players much like WCS Challenger does for EU/NA. Will miss you ByuL! Remember lots of his emotional finals, bittersweet memories.

I’d say it was earned. Taeja almost qualified while still being in the military. Parting (who beat byul as well to qualify), mma, among other lesser tier Koreans who made it showed Byul must not have been practicing too much knowing his end was nearing. This was just the nail in the coffin.

Great region lock there, Blizzard. What were people saying in the past? "We want the very best" when we had too many Koreans in foreign tournaments. Suck it up and watch the best then. ![]()

This was just the nail in the coffin. No one's denying that Neeb is good enough to play in GSL. However the point is that Neeb has other events he can compete in as well. He's fine whether he qualifies or not. The same couldn't be said for ByuL.

Fair rules to everyone, not discriminating Koreans would be nice since their scene is dying ATM.

This was just the nail in the coffin. Hmm? He pretty directly took his spot, though I can see why "stolen" carries some connotations you'd disagree with. However, if someone said region lock contributed to ByuL retiring, I wouldn't say it's unfair to claim that. Let's be clear: the current region lock system is EXPLICITLY UNFAIR to Koreans, with the goal of achieving various payoffs (more motivation for foreign pros, more interest in foreign scene, more long-term interest in StarCraft II esports). We don't argue the fairness of region-lock (it's textbook unfair); we argue whether or not the gain is worth it. Anyway, sad to see ByuL depart. I'll always appreciate him for keeping the most entertaining style of Zerg (muta-ling-bane) alive at the top-tier.
