After failing to qualify for GSL Code S, the multitime premier finalist is calling it quits after a 6 year career in SC2.

Damn, sucks to hear. Sad to see he never got a premier win given his form back in 2015. Good luck to him going forward.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

Wow, this is just sad. Kind of know it is coming as ByuL has been struggling for 2 years now. Well, best of luck to him on his next endeavor.

Letting non-Koreans play in the GSL causes Korean pros to retire when they fail to qualify and have nothing to do for half a year. Great region lock there, Blizzard.

Yup. It's a disgrace really.

We should either turn off region lock or have an actual region lock.

ByuL probably does not train though. I do agree there are flaws in the system, but when I see that a retired player like TaeJa, for instance, was one series away from qualifying, I feel like ByuL was on a path towards retirement no matter what.

It's a pity.. It's really hard, I would prefer double the tournaments, even if they had to split the prize money.

Y'all have no information. Very quick to blame region lock. If anything, region lock revived some interest in SC2 for a while.

As shown by the viewership that hasn't changed and non-existent new top players? SC2 is not dead by any means, but it's stagnating for sure.

I'm actually surprised ByuL was full-time/part-time up until now. I thought he played on the side.
Oh well. Sucks there's nothing offline in Korea besides GSL.

A sad day, but it seemed like he was ready to check out as far back as the middle of 2017. Shame he couldn't get the gold in the end but at least he left his mark with one of the strongest peaks from a Zerg. His LBM was amazing when he was on his game.

He left many great games behind too:

This was inevitable given his recent results. It's a shame given how good of a player he can be. He was the best Zerg at the end of HotS. Probably the best player in sc2 history to have not claimed a championship.

This was actually the main reason I was sad to see Neeb get into GSL over him, the fact it actually happened feels bad
Zest, sOs, PartinG, Dark, and Maru are the real champs. ROOT_herO is overrated. Snute, Serral, and Scarlett are the foreigner GOATs

Sad for fans, but a good decision i think.

If you're not on top 5 of your race, i don't see how you can survive on korea.

And when you need a kespa team to reach quaterfinals as a zerg, Byul has no chance.

The saddest part is he can probably crush nearly anyone on a foreigner region (on NA for example, i don't think he can beat Serral on EU, but maybe actually).

And when you look GSL qualifier, it looks ten times more interesting than the last competitions we had on foreigner regions.

Or the fact that PartinG was able to qualify. Byul reached the ro16 twice last year, got ro4 ST1, ro4 Gyeonggi, and 3rd SSL Season 1.

He was very clearly an upper level player.

This year, he got ro32 twice, reaching the loser's finals twice, and never losing to a foreigner in Code S.

There are indeed flaws with the region lock, but Byul underperforming is not a result of foreigners (especially with formerly retired players coming back and making or almost making it).
