ByuN and 
CoCa is sometimes brought up in match-fixing discussions, but is often told with inaccurate or incomplete information. For clarification, here’s a summary of what happened:The ESV TV Korean Weekly
The ESV TV Korean Weekly was an online tournament held during 2011-2012. The competition built up a loyal following and good reputation, which led to it striking a deal with GomTV to award a GSL Code A spot to the winner of the Season 1 Finals #3—an invitational event for the top finishers in the preceding weekly tournaments (#9 through #12). Finals #3 was streamed during October 19-25, 2011, with Squirtle emerging as champion.
A few weeks later in November, ByuN and CoCa faced off in the early rounds of the ESV Weekly #15. The previous agreement with ESV TV and GomTV was not continued, and there were no longer any stakes related to the GSL.
At that time, CoCa had his Code S Ro16 group coming up in a couple of days, where he would face Mvp, jjakji, and Gumiho. ByuN had been eliminated a month earlier in the qualifiers, and was out of GSL for the rest of the year.
The first game of their best-of-three series began with the two players chattering in English, showing their familiarity with one another. The game ended in a win for CoCa.

The "Fix"
The controversy occurred in game 2. CoCa outplayed ByuN again, and was put in a situation where a 2-0 series victory was 100% certain. However, through the course of the game (chat logs below), CoCa had told ByuN that he was only participating in the tournament in order to practice. All of CoCa’s Terran teammates on SlayerS were either away at the GSTAR event, or occupied with preparations for their own matches, leaving CoCa without practice partners for his upcoming GSL group. ByuN told CoCa to forfeit the match so they could play an additional, third game. CoCa took up the offer, and conceded a game he had wrapped up.

Repercussions
The ESV Weekly was streamed on delay via replays, some days after the actual matches. CoCa and ByuN submitted the replays from their series—with all of their chat included—and their conversation was soon streamed to the entire StarCraft II community.
In Korea, their actions were met with enormous outrage. The 2010 match-fixing scandal—where several star players were revealed to have received money to intentionally lose matches in major tournaments—was still fresh in everyone's mind. Even though the tournament stakes were so low ($100 for first place), and even though personal gain did not appear to be the motive, the image of two progamers conspiring to alter the result of a match was too abhorrent to let off lightly.
As a result of the ensuing uproar, CoCa forfeited his Code S spot, and was punished by his team Slayers by being kicked from the team house and suspended from all competition indefinitely (this ended up being until March of 2012, around GSL Season 2). ByuN, with no GSL spot to forfeit, was suspended from competition by Prime for a similar duration, while retaining his spot in the team house.
In comparison, ESV TV gave the two a slap on the wrist. The two were given a stern scolding for not taking competition seriously, and suspended from ESV tournaments until the end of the year.
Later: MarineKing's Commentary
In March 2012, ByuN returned from his suspension to contribute to a Prime victory in GSTL. MarineKing took the opportunity to present his version of the events and defend ByuN (at the time of the scandal, no one was interested in hearing context or excuses).

"ByuN and CoCa had been teammates together previously, and they were close friends who didn't care about their age difference. I remember that ByuN would seek out only CoCa when preparing for vs Zerg. Not a single memory from that day is forgotten; they're fresh in my head even now

Looking back on my memories, the two were in practice games with each other before their tournament match. I recall that it was practice for CoCa, and I remember thinking that they must be really close when I saw ByuN helping despite it being the weekend.
The ICCUP [note: the ESV TV's Weekly's original sponsor/name] bracket was announced in the meanwhile, and it happened that both of them had registered for the tournament, so both of them participated. Ironically, they were matched up against each other in the first round.
The ICCUP tournament is different from other tournaments in that it doesn't have referees, and it doesn't stream all the games. From start to finish, the players run the tournament. It's a weekly tournament, so ICCUP felt like a kind of joint "ranking match" between many different teams.
Looking at the circumstances, I think this is why the two players didn't realize it was a tournament. CoCa had to go eat after the match, and was in a situation where it would be difficult to play the next round. It was his mistake to take the series to a third game, just so he could practice one more game."
Conclusion & aftermath
Now that I've researched and presented the facts, I feel entitled to a brief spewing of my opinion.
TECHNICALLY, a form of "match-fixing" did occur between ByuN and CoCa. However, the circumstances and details of the ESV incident make it WILDY different from the major match-fixing scandals that involved criminal investigations. There are almost no circumstances in which the two incidents should be brought up in the same discussion, unless it is to make a very careful, well-explained, and nuanced point.
CoCa, an MLG runner-up and rising star in 2011, never recovered from the setback. He retired in 2014, with a top eight DreamHack finish as his best result after his suspension.
ByuN returned from his suspension to perform well for the rest of 2012, placing top four in the GSL. He disappeared from the Korean scene during 2014-2015 for unknown reasons, and returned in 2016 to become the BlizzCon champion.
