The part about the "saplings" is true, but that's a general issue of the Korean scene, there aren't that many promising saplings to be found right now. But I disagree with the part about there being "no faces" and a feeling that anyone could jump team. I felt quite the opposite actually. In other sports during the off-season there's always this feeling of "Maybe big player X will join another team because he got a better offer". Not a feeling I got with Proleague. Players like Zest, Stats, Maru, sOs, herO and others, the faces of their teams, I never had the feeling that any of them would leave their team. Unless their team disbanded.

So if you qualify for season 2 Challenge, you can win money, but you can't get into season 2 Premier where the WCS points are given out.

Therefore it would have been better in my opinion if it would not run in the same time as GSL or at least make it overlap as least as possible. They're gonna overlap at some point, even though GSL season 2 starts in April (as this looks to be a very long event). I don't really remember anyone clearly prioritizing GSL though.

I particularly llike the Premier format. If the best 10 players actually make it in there, we could have a situation where each of the best 10 SC2 players in the world play each other, we could really get some solid evidence for who is the best. No relying on a single preferable matchup, no eliminations on a single off-day, and so on. Hype!

• Broodwar gets an 8-man/10-man round robin tournament with play-offs where players are qualified by fan-votes • SC2 gets a league system. - SC2 SSL Premier is a 10-man round robin tournament with play-offs where players are qualified for from Challenge or last seasons Premier - SC2 SSL Challenge is a two 5-man groups round robin tournament with open qualifiers Sounds awesome, really glad this is happening. And it seems like they want to continue this for multiple years.

I mean i get that they don't wanna do the whole qualifier thing because for maximum viewer numbers you really need TBLS in your tournament. Also for ASL there were like 500 people trying to qualify, that's just so much work. In general Rain seems to be pretty good atm, one of the better toss players in bw. No chance to make it into the top8 though i think. TBLS are a sure bet i would imagine, then there are big streamers like terror who might wanna participate (which would be bad for the quality of the tournament imo).

Thanks guys I'm not sure if Rain could win a popularity vote in sc2 because he left the scene since quite a long time. But in his prime he would have been chosed, he played so well I found myself lacking of argument against protoss

Probably Sea or BeSt because of popularity I really hope you cannot vote for Terror/Britney. The league should be somewhat competitive and with only 8 spots in the first season 1/4 of them being wasted would be sad. On the other hand it would be arbitrary to not allow them to participate so yeah not a good solution either.

It's really annoying how it feels like people are so excited for the greats of Brood War being back, that they feel the need to go for invitational/streamer showmatches for the rest of our days. I'm sure all these players have the competitive fire still, but its like the powers that be are putting the storyline ahead of the competition, which isnt good long-term.

More money and prestige? It's not like he'd have gotten worse in the two days since IEM I guess but I fully expect him to drop off at least a bit, and I can't blame him if he does. I find it hard to believe that he will just put his head down and practice harder than ever when he's basically got it made right now.

good to see ByuN's TvT is not hopeless. But maybe Maru's is just not that good lately either Well Maru did lose 1-3 to Ryung in GSL, so it can't be that great. Don't think current TvT suits ByuN or Maru's style very well.

I suppose the invites will be flash, bisu, jaedong, sea, soulkey, stork, last and effort, given that jaedong wants to play... ![]()

Well, I had forgotten and blanked out that those people existed. But if I could choose, I would have Soulkey and Rain over those any day.

I will also watch both stages because there are great players in both, but premier > challenge regardless ![]() The only thing i don't like (you already mentioned it) is that nobody can qualify for premier season two if he didn't make it into stage 2 this qualifier. That's a bit harsh imo

Best players will be like 6-3 imo Especially because it's over 9 weeks, not on one day like each Challenge group last year. So much can change in the span of 9 weeks.

Probably slightly too few players involved but other than that this is probably the best format I've seen, if they managed to get this to 32 or 40 I'd be all for it. Round robin format means a lot of matches. They're already taking 9 weeks for 10 players and 45 matches. If they had 32 players, that would mean 496 matches. 40 players = 780 matches. At the current rate of 5 matches per week, 32 players would need 99 weeks and 40 players would need 156 weeks. So yeah, 40 players would need 3 years to play all their matches.
