Kinda disappointed the Koreans only get to feature in an allstar match tbh, would have much preferred them being involved in the actual tournament and not a side event.

Do the winners of the all-star match also get prize money? This is probably gonna run at near unwatchable times for me anyway

This is nice. Hopefully more events will future small invite "all-star" tournaments like this. I also hope that the all-star event has another $5.000-10.000 prizepool.

The offline qualifier is open to all wcs circuit eligible players, not just Chinese players. The tournament is also part of the GPL brand, full title is Gold Series International 2016.
On phone atm, will post what other things I know (and can say ofc) later.

Somehow it feels to me that there is no structure yet at all to the entire Circuit system, I doubt that these events will be the same next year and I think that's what is required from the system to be truly of equal opportunities as Blizzard + partners wanted.

DH Winter isn't in the WCS season, maybe some redbull stuff too if they're involved. The point is that WCS Circuit events are really nice for organizers so it's hard to do a global or a non wcs event.

I think we should not bash the chinese here for the WCS system. After all, they are kinda fighting the system on their own by giving us a showmatch with Koreans in it and possibly giving them money.

Only 16 players?
So the invited player are in the money and points without doing anything?

Opposite for me, I don't wanna see koreans crush foreigners all day long so this is imho a good mixup. If this happens regularly we will be able to see if the foreign scene is able to improve (or the koreans are able to decline )

Yes, but we have enough wcs circuit events right now(dreamhack, iem), surely you won't mind one wcs global event in midst of all this?

Don't you think it's more likely for foreigners to improve, when they face Koreans in tournaments regularly? There is no real other way to train against Koreans for Europeans, other than offline events, since the ping to KR server is terrible. I think the disparity between Koreans and foreigners will get even bigger with the new WCS system.

I wonder who they are going to invite because in this system any invites besides Korean ones will be unfair. Like, have the Korean's units have 70% health. Hell we could even implement an ELO system, and the favored player would get a unit health malus depending on the difference between his ELO and his opponent's. Such genius !

Hmm, they dont have to invite chinese guys, because the offline quallifier will be most like only China and TW players.
When I have to guess: 2 top EU (or players who counted once to top EU) 1 CN, 1 Korean who is allowed to play in WCS.
So: Lilbow, Snute, Mystery, Hydra?

Essentially it is the same gain as any non-Korean country: non-Korean players get more tournaments to play, more exposure and of course more money, it is just that China gets a bit more gains due to previous limits, but the difference in reaction is pretty glaring. We don't really see concern like "lowering the skill level of tournaments" or "no Korean no watch", in fact the viewership of DH Leipzig here is as high as last year's WCS global events.

In fact if you look at the qualifiers of both DH Leipzig and WCS Winter, realistically the only spot(s) available to Chinese players is still the one Chinese qualifier, having to play on US servers to qualify is insanely hard for Chinese players due to lag. Actually this WCS Shanghai event is probably the only event Chinese players can play/qualify en masse.

I think, this will be a good tournament and the awesome thing is that we will be able to laugh about the winner being beaten by some second tier Korean after the tournament :-)
So for me, 100 points up compared to some standard DH or IEM. As with IEM, they are even liing to the public by saying "The best players will be playing at the World Championship in Katowice". The Chinese did it great with this showmatch after the tournament. Of course if they invite someone reasonable.

We are shortsighted I guess Why wouldn't the Chinese scene be excited? They have every reason to. The players now actually have a chance to qualify for Premier tournaments because they no longer have to share qualifying spots with Korea. Their favorite Chinese players have a better chance than ever to prove themselves outside of their country. If I was a Chinese player I'd be damn happy with the new system, since I wouldn't get screwed by the "Asia qualifiers" anymore (which were always won by Koreans). I think selfish is probably the wrong word? It is not the "Chinese people" that will be earning any moneys, am I right? Selfish has to do with getting benefits for your self.

+ Show Spoiler +and it was a joke I don't think chinese people are really selfish

I think you benefit quite a lot from it and it's fair since the chinese scene is actually making progress

So this is yet another weekend-type tourney ala DH and IEM.
Is there going to be a proper vanilla WCS tourney ala GSL? If yes, how many and when? Or is the WCS Circuit still making tourneys up as they move along?
As much as it's nice to have surprise announcements springing up, surely it's nicer for the players and viewers to have some clarity on the entire 2016 schedule. It's quite disconcerting that things are still being worked out behind the scenes. Blizzard has the clout and finances to make things happen by now (where as it's understandable for KeSPA to struggle with Proleague/GSL/SSL due to sponsorship issues and Blizzard's sudden WCS changes).

It is a week long event, not something rushed in a weekend.

Monday, Mar 21 9:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) Interesting, so at the same time as the Proleague play offs. The winner of these two events is obvious. But good that after the Proleague finishes, we can switch to GPL :-)

And it is all kill, so it might be just 4 BO1 matches. So Proleague should end much sooner. But that applies just for the groups A and B. Group C will be played when GSL starts and that will last certainly longer. But we could watch at least group D.
