To the StarCraft Community,
Following the update earlier in the week, we have asked SPOTV to broadcast StarLeague on both DingIt and YouTube going forward. Additionally, full 1080p, 60fps streams will be available for free.

Hmm, so still no proper Cast for me in Europe. But for the rest this is good news.

I'm glad they did this actually. It's super easy to stream on twitch, but I've heard some real shitty things about them as a company. Anything to get away from Twitch I'm all for.
|
ok, i have to get this off my chest. what the hell is a ding-it???
some highschooler thought he came up witha unique and fun-to-say name? like bing, uber, lyft, or any of those other crappy names. perhaps hoping that it one day becomes a verb like "to google"
"hey did you catch ssl last night?" "no, let me DingIt!!!"
i refuse to watch on that platform solely because of its hideous name.
.. and its horrible reputation.
|
Yeah, to be fair, the name is absolutely horrible. One of the worst company names I've ever seen actually.

no its really not.
you-tube. insta-gram. snap-chat. these names actually relate to the products themselves. they are not dumb names.
ding-it, is pretty fucking dumb.

Ook, I like this a lot. I will watch whenever I can from now on! Thanks!

Thanks Madals ! This will help the viewership alot i think

Congrats on making a hard decision. It probably doesn't help the business, but truth to be told, continuing in the current direction didn't help the business either =/
|
So can anyone Post the actual YouTube link where I can watch the stream tomorrow?

I didn't try dingit because of the install issue, but really for me YT has been better than twitch, both from europe and from south america (where I live now).
And last year azubu was far superior to twitch, and until now afreeca too.
I don't know why Twitch hates me but it's always the most unstable stream for me, making me choose any other solution when they're available...

Admittedly, I tried DingIt and it was ok. However, now that we have access to YouTube as well...it's a no-brainer just use YouTube over DingIt. Hope your job isn't on the line as a result Madals, good luck!
Also sidenote - I think pretty much all the alternatives we've seen are just plainly better than Twitch - Azubu, Afreeca, YouTube lol.

thank god i dont have to use dingit

I'll still be watching on d!ngit.
Yes you read that right.

Thanks!
Though it won't be the same as Azubu.

Everybody is rejoicing but I kinda feel bad. Ding-it is a business, doing this gives them nothing except maybe easing the hate on them.
They won't get one cent from the move and yet they still paid for the sponsorship, not Youtube... I doubt they will be investing more in SC2 following this net lose. Sucks to lose a sponsor. Maybe they got some understanding where whatever money is generated via Youtube goes to them to make the situation a little less sucky.
As a viewer though, I, too, am happy but I can't help feeling that us bullying them in giving up isn't all that great.
|
Ultimately, they still have to actually deliver a good product. And there seems to be significantly amount of delusion among DingIt's managers about what kind of streaming services would be acceptable to people today.

No matter what it is their fault. They had this issue with the CS:GO fans because of the .exe and now a plugin requirement to view. They heard the feedback that the viewers DO NOT want to have any plugin or anything as a requirement to view the stream. They failed to comply, so they must bear the consequences.
Although I think the community did take it too far, they could have just install a small free linux VM with only chrome browser and the plugin, watch the stream there if they fear a malware or anything and then shut it down.
|
So it's not being broadcast on twitch? Will there be any kind of VODs available after the broadcast?

It might be a bad thing for the pro scene if they don't invest more money, but honestly i don't give a damn. Their "revolutionary" plugin is actually prehistoric. Some of the most used plugins supported by basically all browsers were flash and java and both are on their way out fast. Even their creator companies don't want other people to use them. I know what UDP/TCP is and how their plugin could help. But as many people said before, there is no justification for an end user to install a plugin to watch a stream in 2016. Even if it is not an adware or malware, it is a glorified way for them to bypass adblock at best.
I sincerely hope their company goes under and they leave sc2 scene for good.

Well I guess this will be the last season SSL is sponsored by DingIt :/
The community really overreacted on this, especially reddit, but I guess it can't be helped

Thanks to DingIt for recognizing their product is sub-par, now you know what you need to do : come back with something that's actually decent, and not shady-looking.

There was a post actually
|
It was posted in this thread alone at least 2 times

Somehow they have over 3 times viewership of youtube on Dingit though. They might convince SPOTV into exclusive streams again by saying something like "viewership is increasing steadily every week"
|
I just compared 720p on youTube live with the DingIt "HD+" (whatever this means..) on my 55" TV screen (4K) with 200Mbit/s located in germany.
Everytime the camera is moving (and it is very often in a gaming stream) there is serious shading on DingIt and it's just not what you call true 1080p quality. Maybe it is 1080p, maybe it is 60fps but it doesnt appear like it for sure. More like 480p.
So @madals: I read through your long post last week and I followed your arguments as they theoretically actually make sense. But words is the one thing, as the product DingIt is delivering, despite having the contra of the extra Plugin to install, isn't really nice at all and doesn't give the user a good viewing experience at all.
Sorry to say as I support new approaches to streaming, but you actually need to improve A LOT.

I apologize, I went through again and saw a post which had it linked as hyper link as 'sure' and i was going through super fast looking for an obvious link (I googled, found the YT and clicked a away thinking it was a normal YT because it looks the same as a normal page but Tasteless tweeted it so I found it there) and I thought I would make it obvious for people looking for it.
Little wasted as well so shot straight through the comments looking for a link.

Youtube streams are far superior from twitch for a viewer. Never a lag, perfect quality and bandwith.
Dingit i can say. It never works for me. (didn't try a lot though)

Great. I can finally watch live like last year :D. I can't install Dingit on PCs at the office so YT for me.

Allow me to blow your mind. If a company creates a bad product, it is not the consumers' fault for hating the product. :O !

What? You seriously think it's justifiable to go to such lengths just to watch a fucking stream? A stream for a single event, mind you... This is 2016, even Afreeca doesn't force us to hide behind proxies to watch their video feeds anymore, and you think this would be acceptable?

Just chiming in to say that's not true for everyone... I haven't had issues with Twitch in 4 years, meanwhile YouTube has been broken more often than not, although it's improved somewhat lately...

They have a bad product, core audience doesn't want it, absolutely no need to feel sorry.
No tears were shed.

Can we clear up why the English YT stream is not in the SSL LR OPs or on the sidebar?
Pande said he got a list of streams and the English YT stream was not on it. Does DingIt say that TL is not allowed to show the English YT stream (not sure how they would have a say in what is shown on TL and what not) or is this just a misunderstanding?

Hopefully Madals, Ryan or a TL admin can tell us what's going on, thanks!
Even Tasteless tweets out the english YT stream, so I think not showing it on TL is a shame and hurts SSL.

This is a community site with the purpose to inform its members on where streams are available. No organizer or broadcaster should have a say in which streams should and shouldn't displayed on the sidebar.

It should be there, if it isn't then either (a) someone got lazy (b) there's something technical preventing it (which I doubt).
EDIT: actually it might be one of those technical things since each one might need to be done individually.
