I've just started leveling Swann. I was playing on Void Launch (Hard). Right when the 1st bonus objective ship spawns, we got hit by a wave of 6 Hybrids (atleast 6, may have been 1 or 2 more) and 10+ Scouts. It was so unexpected since on Hard it is trivial to deal with AI attacks. We managed to fight them off but we had to give up the bonus objective.

I've also gotten hit with a huge wave (100+supply) on Brutal Chain of Ascension when the 1st hybrid spawns at West side and AI attacks base simultaneously. I'm thinking there is a new somewhat recent bug where multiple waves end up spawning at the same time.

You are not the first one who reports that sometimes an early wave is stupidly strong. Probably just a bug as you guessed.

Well I leveled abathur up to 10 and goddamn does that symbiote upgrade make a pretty massive difference in the strength of your first brutalisk. Between the relatively low CD shield and the extra damage from it, it really stretches the energy from your first few queens a lot further.

The snowball effect is truly well and alive with abathur - if you can get a 5 minute brutalisk, it's pretty smooth sailing til the end of the game because that brick wall of a unit just keeps everything else from dying before hitting critical mass.

Also the anti-armor upgrade for muta's is just lethal. Critical mass of muta's just oneshots beefy targets while splashing everything in the vicinity.

Can't wait to get the level 15 lifeleech to just complete the super muta's.

The fact that brutalisks also have higher target priority than the rest of your army doesn't hurt their tanking either. Tends to make them a bit harder to keep alive without plenty of queen support though.

I just realized today that we can now assign hotkeys to the top bar powers. Really comes in handy when playing as Karax.

So how about this week's Mutation? I've only been able to beat it in Brutal with Vorazun and her OP Dark Templars. It's insane the amount of units that spawn from the Rifts, and the Rifts spawn quite often too. It wouldn't be that bad if we could camp at the site of the first Void Shard, but the tornadoes make that impossible. Any strategies you have had with other Commanders to beat it on Brutal?

It doesn't help that sometimes the new weekly thread is not up instantly, but we just have to wait a bit =)

Changes from the new patch that i thought would have large implications:

-It is now possible to spend up to 30 Mastery points in a single Mastery category.

Commanders
-Raynor
Mastery: Medics heal a nearby additional target for X% of heal.
Increased to 3% per level, up from 2%.
-Abathur
Mend
This is now a map-wide ability, instead of a targeted area.
Base cooldown increased to 150 seconds.
Improved Mend upgrade reduces the cooldown to 120 seconds.
Evolution Chamber – Upgrade Swarm Queen Transformation
Description now properly states that it increases the heal amount by 10.
Reduced the size of the Swarm Host by 10%. This should improve their pathing and mobility.


That is a pretty big nerf to abby imo. But bigger than that, the implications of 30 mastery points in each category is hugeee. -30% cost of karax units anyone?

With the -30% cost for Karax, his units will overall cost 105% of the standard protoss unit cost. So virtually normal cost.

Dang it, they fixed the bug where Artanis got both an attack speed boost and a time scale boost from the warped units speed upgrade. Was having a lot of fun with zealots with 30 second better stim.
Putting 30 points into masteries is nice though. 52.5% chronoboost is ridiculous, pump out probes and upgrades like there's no tomorrow.

Aba got a deserved nerf, I would appreciate a slight nerf to Vorazun as well.

I am really uncertain why Raynor needed that buff, but why not? If possible, I would like Blizzard to think about giving Swann a bone in the early game. I really enjoy playing Abathur/Kerrigan/Zagara because I have stuff in the early game. Swann is all about late game, and it's a bit sad.

I played The Vermillion Problem for the first time today, and I really wish they'd stop putting enemies in your expansions. It kicks Swann right in the balls hard and is the main reason why I stopped playing random maps with him. Other than that the map is pretty good. Basically Lock n Load with 20 mini-locks instead of 5 and you don't have to wait for your ally to capture them.

Maybe that Raynor mastery didn't feel like it has much impact and so Blizzard decided to buff it to have a noticeable difference?

I'm sad to have subpar hardware. I mentionned here before that the lock and load map drops my fps lower than 30 at the start of the game compared to other maps. Since it's a lava map, it will likely as bad and because of brutal and the AI has many more units so I tend to have constant 0-1 fps toward the mid-endgame, giving the impression to my ally that I'm not doing anything when it's just me struggling to do anything. I'm limited in commanders as well cause zerg and terran tend to have more units.

I played the new Vermillion map 5 times, and I have to say that I like it a lot.

It taxes a tiny bit my multitasking (more than Void thrashers for example) and the first expansion is not free like usual.

Personal recommendation :

- Kerrigan Omega Worms are incredibly effective. You can bring your drone with them (but you can't put a drone with a special crystal inside the Worm -_-)
- Vorazun is top tier as usual, but this time, it's the dark pylon that shines (you can recall your army and that's damn useful)
- Swann also has access to a teleport, but it's a bit less efficient/easy to use than the two previous ones
- Abathur flying army works pretty nice. His nerf to mend is an issue though
- Karax is shit! Finally a map where he doesn't shine. Or perhaps someone found an awesome trick with him?

What did they do with the warped units speed? Did it use to stack and you get double the attack speed? It feels noticeably different after the patch.

Fervez, so far I use Karax to defend base and expansion so no need to think about splitting armies to defend. Since I don't build army, I instead send probes with my ally to gather them. I don't see the usual cannon push for this map unless you build as your ally push high ground. But yeah, basically get carried on this map.

And as for Vermillion, he's hilarious because of how much he wish we could fail to make news more interesting.

Used to be 1.4x time boost and 1.4x attack speed increase, for 1.96x the attack speed, so yeah, about double. It's only 1.6x now with max mastery.

It's easy to win with Karax here, you just need to make units instead of tower defense. Put all your mastery points into unit cost, reconstruction beam, and chrono, skip most forge defense and solar core upgrades (just get solar levels 2 and maybe 3), and focus on attack and armor instead. Grab a twilight council for gateway upgrades and a robo bay for Shadow Cannon and just go Immortal/Energizer/Sentinel. Save your energy for attack waves instead of spamming it like normal and you'll have plenty.
