gonna do these this weekend so this is nice to refer backto if i get stumped
|
I've done a few of the easier ones so far, they're definitely challenging and require a lot of saving, at least if you are bad like me. I just completed "I Aim to Misbehave" and I have to save before every engagement and reload because of seeker missiles into a pile of phoenixes and I can't spot it in time. Took so many dang reloads and saves lol. Tried to checkout your third video since 'snipe' missions tend to be not as bad since you don't need to stay alive, but it is still processing. I'll check back on it later. I look forward to 2.2billion Zerg on Last Stand and Steps of Rite (don't kill any taldarim on a map with four taldarim bases that send units at you???).
|
these mastery achievements are a lot tougher than WoL and HotS. I guess that's a good thing.
Before I think I remember doing them even on brutal difficulty. Now, you really have to do it on hard only if you don't want frustration
btw... happened twice now for me, anyone else losing their bonus solarites from all missions? I re-did the missions in casual to get it back yesterday, but now I lost them all again?!
|
Yup, lost up to 200 of mine. I get 100 on Salvation instead of 300, 35 on Rak'Shir, etc. Makes replaying the campaign through this for brutal achievements extra brutal, damn near impossible. They need to be fixed in order to complete some of these Mastery achievement I'd bet, especially the speed ones where those OP Spear abilities can wipe out an army in 2 seconds.

Opened it, saw under 5 minutes and thought wow this should be easy. Speed up tricked me haha. At least I know where he is now, thanks. Is there any reason you didn't take a more direct route a bit further to the left and skip the central lane? Is it covered in spores perhaps or did you want to just slow down the oncoming army?

to be honest its just me messing up. you can go to him directly. just make sure to upgrade as much as you can and build void rays out of 4 stargates.
|
Yup, was able to do it thanks. The toughest ones for me are tower defense, so while some I can do with some work, Last Stand, Salvation, and The Essence of Eternity are so damn tough.
|
Just finished getting all of the achievements, your videos were really helpful!
Let me know if anyone has any trouble with specific achievements.

Can someone plz help me understand what im doing wrong :S. I've done the 'For Aiur' mission what seems as several times in under 10 mins killing what i think is all zerg but I am not getting the achievement... its got nothing to do with the zerg forces on side flanks of map that AI fights right?

The side flanks that the AT attacks do not count.
Are you killing all the Hives and Creep Tumors? I think at the end of the mission, there is a % creep eliminated stat. Make sure that is 100%.
Other than that, double check to make sure you're playing on Hard. A few times, I had mine accidentally set to Normal.

Make sure to kill queens on top of any hatcheries right away, sometimes they will fly away and not comeback denying you the achievement.

Haha yeh im pretty sure it was those cheeky flying queens.... thanks guys

Some tip for the Step of rite.(kill ma'lash guardian without killing any tal'darim.
Requirement : Void ray + Time stop and Mass recall ability.
First : rush void ray as fast as possible while defend the first wave of void entity.
Second : after first wave and you got 4-5 void ray. keep pumping VR but now you can go kill guardian. first look at you Time stop ability. if it cooldown nearly finish. then go to the deepest one first . try to move from side of the map for avoiding enemy . when you got close the target. use the time stop and go straight for the guardian. kill them as fast as possible and then recall back to the base. after that go for top right guardian and recall again. *from this time you must have atleast 2 starport.
if your time stop don't finish yet before you moveout then kill the first guardian on the right top of the map. again avoid enemy line by move VR from side of the map, circle around their line until you reach the guardian. after that you can go for left top guardian.
Third : now terrazine will rise again. defend your base why keep build VR (you need atleast 10+) but you can split mineral for other unit if you want. for now wait until terrazine subside and keep building your army.
Fourth : now terrazine will subside and tal'darim will attack you with their fleet. you have to move quick. first if you have land unit left , make sure move them away from tal'darim force so they don't kill any enemy and make this mission fail(send them into the enemy base and have them kill is a easy way).now go for the bottom left guardian , again move your void ray to the side of the map as close as possible to avoid enemy. kill guardian and leave. and go for the last guardian. check for Time stop cooldown be sure it's finish before you advance. or if you have enough force. go straight and kill the guardian. try to finish them out before tal'darim destroy all you base.
|
The cheese way to get the Terazine Fog level mastery is to make DTs and a couple more Void Rays or Stalkers to deal with the fog pushes, while flying Corsairs around the edges of the map and using Solar Lance on the guardians, you can also use the Purifier Beam to kill one (don't use Solar Bombardment or you will kill some Taldarim units as well). You should be able to win the mission just as the Taldarim fleet attacks your base, just move all your units somewhere else to make sure you don't kill one, near the end Scouts will come to kill your Corsairs, make sure you don't let them kill the Scouts and just split up your Corsairs so they leave one of them alone so you can still Solar Lance the last guardian.

Just a note on this one is that you get attacked at the 11-12 min mark by Taldarim forces which you CANNOT kill. Make sure you have no cannons or attacking forces in your base.
But yeah time stop / recall makes this mission pretty easy.

While doing the mastery achievement on the "Forbidden Weapon" mission I encountered a severe bug which made it trivial. I started the mission from the master archives, and after a lot of saving and reloading I decided to restart the mission to try a new tactic.
However after restarting, I had all spear of adun abilities unlocked, and all units were unlocked. This meant that I could simply warp in an arbiter, sail it away to the temple and recall a single zealot there. I tried to reproduce the bug by starting the mission again from master archives and then saving, reloading, restarting without luck. Has anyone else encountered this bug in another mission?
|
I read somewhere that someone had this issue where they were reloading and testing some stuff and suddenly all possible tech was unlocked at one point and let them bypass a lot of stuff. That would definitely make it pretty trivial. Never seen it myself though.

Finally finished these things, no more campaign for me. I was doing 1-2 masteries a day while messing around with co-op and other games. I look forward to the speed runs and fun strategies that people come up with though.
|
One way to make the "Solo Operative, Right?" achievement even easier is to use Miraj's strategy but also include Fenix/Talandar in your Spear of Adun abilities. That crazy ole' bot can soak up bullets for a solid 30 seconds and kill a few tough enemies on his own, drastically reducing the amount of force needed to push through to the same locations, meaning that it's more than worth the economic hit you'll get early in the level to enable him. A few Sentinels and up to a dozen Archons will do the trick if you drop Talandar on the defenders just before going in. I bet there are other ways to use him for Mastery achievements, too.

From another thread:
On November 21 2015 04:40 Unit 731 wrote: For a lot of achievements which involve destroying specific targets like "Monster Hunter," I've found the Tal'darim Mothership is like Chuck Norris. It has crazy-powerful offensive abilities and its beam can one-shot most ground units, including Hydralisks. Two or three shots will blast apart a crawler defense. You can fast-tech to a Fleet Beacon and Blink-spam (It recharges in just 8 seconds.) the Mothership everywhere and snipe ground forces. Recommend using Talandar, Orbital Strike or Solar Lance, and Reconstruction Beam to support it. Pulling off Phael's tactic is easy with the Mothership. West, north, east null circuits and then the southern Behemoths. I needed only a modest home guard force and spammed offensive support powers when I went up against the Behemoths. The Mothership was the only unit I had anywhere outside of my base or the perimeter of the core the entire time. I maneuvered it around the bulk of the defending Zerg forces, which is easy to do with the spammable Blink. I then lazily finished the mission, coming in at a dozen seconds under 19 minutes, and I know more skilled players could make an even bigger mockery of this level using the Mothership. It's really too bad you have to choose between the Mothership and Carriers in the campaign, because the Mothership as part of a carrier fleet would be dangerously concentrated AWESOME in the final levels.
Sorry, I don't mean to self-promote or anything, it's just this is a very fun and useful way to do this achievement and I thought people here might like it.

TD ones are much tougher than the others, but I managed to complete salvation and essence of eternity on brutal (with a lot of saves/loads whenever I mis-microed and lost a unit).
But despite many hours of attempts, Last Stand appeared to be mathematically impossible on brutal, regardless of the player's skills or number of saves.
Although with the exception of 4 missions that I found impossible or unfeasible, I did the mastery achievements on brutal for the challenge, but still doing so was the most frustrating experience I ever had in SC2.

Uhm, you don't have access to the Mothership in the Purification Mission?

Yea doing them on Brutal is a hell of a challenge, I couldn't do it. As for Last Stand on Brutal, I think Destiny was able to pull it off so I'm sure it is possible, but just takes a lot of constant attention and building, things I just couldn't pull off but I'm sure other players out there are already figuring out 2.5b+ on Brutal with positioning and timings.

damn 2.5b+ on brutal sounds incredible i wanna see the build on video

Yea, it might take some time I'd imagine, but for missions like that where you can't really speed run them, then the challenge for people is lasting as long as possible. I'd bet someone out there is chain-running the mission and working different strategies and timings so they can get some insane duration on Brutal. That person is not me.

Thanks, I will check these out if i have problems. I love achievements that require skill and APM. There were some in WoL and HotS that I found really challenging. So far I only played the missions on brutal and only one (the last non-epilogue mission where you defend the artifact) was difficult to beat.
I'm also a bit proud that I made the second Mastery achievement on the fly on brutal ('destroy a hatchery in the first 6 minutes'). Those of you who seek a blink micro challenge, this is a tough one
