It isn't a blizzcon without ALLLL the plott family :3 Always fondly love when they cast together, lots of energy!
Why Kaelaris and ToD if they're gonna ditch for Heroes of the Storm afterwards -_- why even bring them to begin with then, there are other commentators out there who wants to cast sc2

They also casted Heroes this week I assume, since they are already there, why not use them on sunday? They worked on WCS all year long and deserve it plus they have too many casters anyway. There is no need for other commentators, the problem is always how to fit all the casters from all the regions in.
Awesome panel ... I am just sorry to see ToD and Kaelaris to leave for Heroes ... I watched it yesterday and did not like it, sorry for these two to leave the awesome and unique scene of SC2 for something so strange :-(

Any news on whether OGN or SPOTV will broadcast Blizzcon?
So Day 9 is going to be the host and not casting? Good for me I realy like the guy and lets face it is knowledge of the scene and the meta, was already preaty bad last year, and one more year beeing away of the game all year long make it kind of impossible for him to cast. I am sure he is gona do a great job at the desk, and also that mean Tasteless is going to cast this year!
This is a pretty sick line up. But the line up was sick last year too. I just hope they dont have the same ridiculous amount of technical issues that delayed the event forever last year...

For Casting they might put him on for the Legend Archon showmatch, since it's LotV it's okay that he doesn't know everything about the game and kind of has a perspective same as a new viewer.
I hope we get an all-Aussie cast for at least one game. I like both Maynarde and Moonglade's styles and I think they will complement each other nicely too.

This.
That hype trailer so good. Apollo is the master of those.

+ It's hype!!!
Oooh, I really hope they do that. Day9 casting LotV would be awesome :D
I really like the casting team of the Opening Weekend. Good mix of players and casters, pretty much all "casting profiules" covered (entertainement with Rotti, Kael' and InControl, technical stuff by Nate, ToD and TLO, a bit of everything with Apollo, Chobra for the player interactions). Really looking forward to it !
Now, for the Blizzcon, we lose Kaelaris: I always liked the guy, but we have other good "entertainement/play-by-play" casters so it's not too bad. We lose ToD: that is sad, because his knowledge of the protoss race is pretty much unmatched by any other caster. That's a big loss, especially since I think there'll be a lot of protoss going through first round. His insights will be missed. We get Tastosis, which is "meh" in my opinion. Day[9] as a host is OK, but I wouldn't want him casting the thing. I guess I'm still a bit sour about him leaving the scene like he did. We get Maynarde, which is nice. I really don't hear much of him, and that little I have, I liked. A nice breath of fresh air ! Moonglade is OK, although I must say that he disappoints me during his PL casts. I was expecting really in-depth and technical analysis of zerg play (kinda like ToD does for Protoss), but he doesn't go far enough in the details of his explanations IMHO.
So yeah, I'm super stoked by the choices of casters for the opening week, a bit less for Blizzcon.
Chobra: If I read the announcements correctly, he won't do any casting and serve as master of ceremony instead.
Apollo: Great analyst and decent caster. Best paired with someone who is good at hyping up the game.
TLO: One of the most likeable personalities in the scene. Looking forward to the commentary of Dr. Dario.
iNcontroL: Good caster. Good host as well. I like him.
Nathanias: Very good at hyping up the game. Has grown on me over the last couple of years.
RotterdaM: Not my favorite caster. Good analysis, but the way he emotes doesn't resonate with me. Decent guy tough.
Kaelaris: Used to be my favorite caster. Not very good at analysis, but charming and emotional.
ToD: Used to come off as a bit arrogant sometimes, but always provided very good analysis. Has also grown on me over the last couple of years.
Blizzcon
Day[9]: It seems to me he switches into a grinning, exuberant caster personality as soon as the cameras are rolling. I've seen YouTube videos in which he seemed to be his normal self and thought that side of his personality was more likeable. Seems to be popular in the scene tough. Probably a good choice for the head of the casting desk.
Tastosis: Tasteless and Artosis seem to complement each other very well. I can see why they are so popular. I agree they provide some excellent commentary.
Maynarde: Haven't seen a lot of casts with him. He seemed to be good at casting. Need more time before I really can form an opinion.
mOOnGLaDe: Underwhelming analysis and casting. I'm really sorry. I listened to him for a full year in Proleague and he never grew on me.
I also agree with other posters: Wolf and Valdes would be worthy additions to the casting desk. They do a very good job in Proleague.
Honestly, Day[9] might be a 'classic' and I respect him a lot for his past contributions to the scene, but I remember last time I've seen him casting SC2 (maybe it was even previous WCS? I can't remember) he was VERY out of touch. And I can imagine it only getting worse from that point...
I mean, I'd rather let the man be remembered for his past in SC (BW/WoL) and let him focus on his new game...
But I have to say, I'm disappointed and surprised that Wolf won't be there. His casting these days is top notch, and he knows as much about the scene as anyone. In fact, he's my favorite after Tastosis. How did they possibly let him slip by?
I'd prefer to see Valdes in here too. Him and Wolf are a great team.
EDIT: Also, I'll be happy to see Day9. Remember guys, he did a lot for SC2 and eSports. We should support his decision to create his new game, even if we have to take the occasional commentary with a grain of salt.

Regardless, he's a world-class American caster who would be a great compliment to the Opening Weekend crew - none of whom have regularly casted any of the players competing, except maybe Lilbow. Seems like an oversight to say the least... but that's just my opinion. I'm sure Blizzard has thought about this longer than I have.
I figured as much, I meant to say after he moved to Korea. I'd prefer Wolf over most of the Blizzcon casters, but it seems he's generally not that popular (based on lr's, I don't read Reddit/Twitch).
On October 31 2015 05:25 Noonius wrote: why Day9? I'm being serious. Past should not matter. He hasn't really done anything this year to warrant such a prestigious casting job.
casting job? Day9 IS the specialist at casting job. Ofc Day9 doesnt know much about sc2 metagame compared to other casters but he knows how to entertain the crowd (primary: crowd, secondary: viewers like twitch). I even noticed that in his first sc2 year.

I don't see why the "game vs game" thing needs to happen, really... it's all eSports, all Blizzcon, and they're good at what they do. I really enjoy having them casting in Heroes as well.

Everyone else though is amazing. Can't wait for them.
We lose Tod & Kaelaris, two of the tried and true casters who have stuck with the non-Korean SC2 scene for years.
No Wolf or Valdes, who with Moonglade were the main casters this year with the rise of SSL and the demise of the non-Korean scene. They also frequently casted GSL when Tastosis had other games on their agenda.
Tastosis simply aren't that good. They are all hype and they clearly have other games on their agenda.
Day9 hasn't casted Sc2 in a year.
Maynarde is awful and doesn't understand the game at all ("Colossus Den" anyone?)

It's been jokingly called Colossus Den since the start of WoL. I love Maynarde, he brings the good kind of hype. I do agree that it's a shame Kaelaris and Tod are not present for the finale weekend but hey, Heroes needs good casters too.
I watched Maynarde for the first time in Katowice this year and I was completely taken by surprise - this guy can bring the hype with a capital "H". Really looking forward to watching him cast games at Blizzcon.

Exactly. Besides, casters diversifying can only be good for their own careers.
Where is Wolf and Valdes? Instead they bring people that are barely involved in the scene nowadays... when Wolf and Valdes have made such a huge contribution to sc2, this sure is so unfair. I'm very disappointed and sad T.T At least Moonglade will be there...
Guess I will be watching some korean streams this year.

Blizzard simply showing they care more about corporate greed (i.e., who is generally perceived as a more marketable caster to a wide audience) than the Starcraft family of casters who have kept broadcast StarCraft going week in and week out for the past several years.

I'm pretty sure all the people they've invited have done a lot for StarCraft over the past few years, as players, hosts and casters. The only one you could make an argument against is Day9, who has done 0 SC2 content since IEM San Jose, but even so, you specifically mention the past several years. What are Blizzard supposed to do? Fly in everybody who casted a WCS event this year? That's an absurd amount of people.

LOL. I've seen some things in this thread, but this takes the cake.
Also have to consider that one of the main aims for blizzard at blizzcon will be to convince people who have left SC2 to come back and buy LOTV. One of the best ways to do that is to remind them of all the good things they remember about the game at its height, Day9 and Tastosis both create that Nostalgic feeling.
That is why they have also seeded Nony and QXC into the blizzcon finals.
Has anyone taken to twitter to ask Wolf/Valdes if they were invited and had to decline or if they weren't invited at all? I feel like people are getting angry about something that might not be an issue.

You're complaining about complaining. #newmeta?
I'm calling it a bit depressing but also, and more importantly, amazing and interesting. How is that complaining exactly?

i'd rather see someone who is constantly casting competitive SC2 events rather than Day9. Kim Phan is the eSports decision maker at Blizz and it'll be interesting to see her "new role" after Bornstein and Sepso create the ATVI esports division.
i think Blizzard makes amazing games and does a mediocre-at-best job of organizing and running esports live events. It'll be good if Sepso just takes over the entire operation.
I don't understand all the Day 9 hate. He contributed so much to the scene. He's the reason I got into sc2 and so many others. He was doing a daily every day for years. But people gotta wake up and smell the coffee. Sc2 has 5k viewers on twitch where you need 10k to be on the front page and cs is at 500k. It's only logical for any human to want to make some money at some point and try other e-sports. This is good for sc2. His name will attract new viewers and bring his huge fan base. For the last 2 tournaments he casted, he was decent. I'm sure he'll do his homework.

labelling people's preferences as "hate" will start a holy war, i don't recommend doing that. otherwise, good point. i changed my mind. day9 has earned his spot. also, day9 is working on an RTS game for another company so he can provide a perspective no one else can while still having a strong Blizzard-RTS knowledge base.
that doesn't change my previous over-all comment though: Blizzard is mediocre at running and organizing leagues and live events. It'll be good if they stick to game making and this new ATVI division handles the esports end of Blizzard's games.

Good point. I guess one reason is that the Korean/Asian casters are not capable of English to the extent needed for casting at BlizzCon. But if BlizzCon is shown in Korea they will cast in Korean for sure, I guess So for every audience there are appropriate casters (in terms of cultural identity and language).
