It was announced today that SPOTV's 2 remaining seeds for the 3rd season of Starleague would be Jin Air's Rogue and Liquid's Snute.
Rogue was invited as a part of the Proleague seeding program, as he was the highest-ranked player in Proleague who didn't already have a seed into this season ( Maru is already seeded into Challenge as a result of being in the Top 8 of the last season, and Stats is already seeded directly into the group stages due to finishing in the Top 4 of the previous season.)
Snute was seeded as part of the Global Seed invitation system used to bring foreigners to compete in Korea. He is the second foreigner to receive the seed for this season, along with TooDming (Source). This will not be the first stay in Korea for the Norwegian - he spent a month last year living and training at the CJ Entus teamhouse.
No word as of yet where either of the foreigners will be staying - the season 1 invites ( Scarlett and Jim) were notably unable to find teamhouses for their stay and therefore slept in hotels and practiced in the offices of Global Esports Management. MacSed, the single global seed from Season 2, didn't have time to stay anywhere, as he traveled to Korea directly from the WCS Season 1 finals, which were held days before.
With these seeds, the 24 players for the Challenge stage of this coming Starleague season are set, and can be found in the Source link above.

If this were actual (non-e)sports they would have seeded him in with some weird reason for sure. They'd have found something. But for now it has to look inconspicuous so the president of KeSPA can take over the world FIFA without trouble.

Snute will walkover atleast 1/4th of the players there, and depending on his shape he can do well vs the other good players.

I could not name that many players who went through the qualifiers today Snute would just walk over. Probably less than 2.

I just had a terrible premoniton: Shine hasn't been especially evil in a while now, and he qualified for the Challenge stage.

maybe when he was beating players like herO and was far and away the top foreigner it would be fair to say something like that about him, but probably not now. although i do think it's still true to say that snute still has the highest CEILING of any foreigner and the most proven track record of competing with koreans, so i think he's the appropriate choice to go

Cmon, Scarlett had the highest ceiling of any foreigner, I would back mid 2013 Scarlett vs any foreigner any time.

Because Scarlett was chosen when she was unquestionably the best foreigner, showing form that was capable of beating many Koreans.
Snute has had form like that in the past (before the SH patch), but recently he hasn't been on the same level, and I wouldn't say he is the top foreigner.
However, I think the fact there is no undisputed best foreigner at present - though many would say Bunny - is probably why Snute has been chosen, as he has definitely been the most consistent in the past year or so.

bunny at various points may have been "better" than snute, but i don't think that now or previously he would have had the potential to go to korea and contend with koreans, whereas snute in his very top form always seems capable of doing that. in fact i think you may be making the same point i was making?

Out of curiosity why is Toodming omitted from the title but then mentioned in the OP?

But he's still seeded. Rogue, Snute, and Toodming are seeded into SPOTV Starleague. If anything the title is misleading
EDIT: I don't mean to nitpick, its just every time I see the thread I personally doubt if Toodming also got seeded and then remember it was announced previously so if someone who doesn't know (as IIRC the announcement thread has like 10 replies tops) it would be really confusing until you actually click the thread.

Well, there was a thread when Toodming was announced as well. New threads are for new information, and these are the new seeds.

That thread was also seen by less than half of the people who have seen this one in a day versus when it came out. And the OP of that thread even says Toodming is the ONLY global seed. I agree that new threads are for new information but that doesn't change that the title is misleading as it implies that they're the only two who got seeded, when that isn't the case.
Hell that thread has even less mention of toodming than this one does http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/starcraft-2/487589-toodming-goes-to-ssl

And us Europeans would probably say NaNiwa. After all, NaNiwa did get top 8 gsl two times in a row while Scarlett did no such thing. Merit wise, at least, NaNiwa is above any other foreigner. Though I would argue that both Bunny and Snute have achieved higher "skill" per ce thank both NaNiwa and Scarlett, and Stephano as well for that matter. Performance wise though, no foreigner have done as well as NaNiwa, during a time where the game had actually been figured out (which is why I give no mention to Jinro, Idra or HuK).

nice I might watch SC2 game for once

If (and only if?) Snute goes to Korea earlier to at least spend some time laddering, he stands a decent chance. If he gets to play shortly after arrival, maybe he can make something happen in ZvZ but I don't see it.
He didn't seem too confident recently, all the more so Korean ladder could be good for his mindset, he'd detach himself from European competition.

Haven't you heard of our Lord and savior Stephano ? But maybe he is so good that he doesn't count as a foreigner anymore

Excellent 2 seeds! These guys will take it seriously.

I'm really really really hyped for Snute's chance. It's been too long ago since a foreigner did well in Korea. I hope Snute can train like a madman and get a good draw in challenge.
|
If you don't count the early days of WOL(which we really shouldn't since koreans were not at their peak yet), foreigners have not done well in korea.
Of those who went to play in pro league, Thorzain maybe had one or two victories that i can recall but lost more than he won. Major and State probably lost all their matches. Stephano had a decent win-lost ratio but was nothing impressive.
And of all the recent(2014/2015) invites foreigners have gotten into korea, sadly none have shown that they deserve the invite.
So as much as i like Snute, i fear for his chances this time round.

"The koreans were not at their peak" that's kind of a lame excuse. Everyone had access to the game for an equal amount of time, so trying to discredit someone like jinro because "well players weren't as good yet" is a stupid argument. Facts are facts. Yes he fell off afterward but so have lots of players once they got near the top. I can list countless koreans who were considered top players in the world and then a couple months later weren't able to compete with the best.
Also you completely forgot naniwa who posted back to back ro8's in GSL during 2012, something no non-korean has even come close to doing since then, and he was one game away from reaching the semifinals in one of those. He clearly showed he belonged in GSL at the time.
And in Proleague any player who can maintain a winrate about 50% is very impressive seeing as its one of the most competitive leagues there is. Stephano finished 6-5 for EG-TL which is a pretty big deal
