Welcome this month's top 50 streamers list.
Table of contents
Huh? What's this? For those of you who don't already know what this is about: I'm gathering various data (viewers, game, events, etc.) from all the streams that are presented on teamliquid.net (those that you can in the sidebar to your right) and use that data to produce the pretty tables and graphs you see below. The tables only contain SC2 players (that is, streams of people playing games of Starcraft 2) and not casters, teams or other streams. The tables also only contain Starcraft 2 related activities. So, for instance when CatZ is streaming Dota2, it will not be taken into account.
The data I gather is then turned into the tables you see below. One is sorted by the average viewers, the other is sorted by the average viewers times the hours streamed. The latter table favors those that stream a lot, while the former table favors popular streamers regardless of how much they stream. Either ranking has its advantages and disadvantages, and thus I present both.
For either table, I have a minimum required stream time of 5 hours to be included in the list.
The list
Due to space limitations, I have to shorten the headers and leave some data out of the tables presented here. You can get the full tables from the links below. The headers aren't as clear as I'd like them to be thanks to this, so here's a quick explanation, just in case: "Viewers" denotes the average viewers in the given month. "Hours" are the hours played. "Place diff" and "Viewer diff" are the place and viewer differences compared to last month.
Also, the HTML version linked beneath the images has some more information that I had to leave out due to space limitation, most notably the featured status of the players.
Now, Without further ado, here's this month's tables:
Stray observations and musings
- Proving he's still as popular as he was many years ago, Jaedong manages to grab the #1 spot in the average viewers category, edging out the #2, Stephano, by a few hundred viewers.
- And congrats to Rotterdam for leading the ranking in the viewerhours category, closely followed by Naniwa.
- For the most part, streamers have resumed playing HotS and largely seem to ignore the LotV beta. Only about a handful of streamers kept playing LotV for the majority of their streams.
- Winter had an average of 1332 viewers last month, streaming 133 hours. That would have put him at the #2 spot in the viewers category, and the #1 spot in the viewerhours category.
- Notable streamers who made it to last month's list, but did not make it this month or who did not stream at all: Destiny, MMA, Parting, Fantasy
- If you find any mistakes or errors in the lists, please do let me know, especially concerning team changes or players that you are absolutely sure should be on the lists, but are not.
The big picture
(The actual numbers are not important, it's the ratio between month that's important.) Note that these are player streams only.
Overall player viewership is down, but it's easy to see a pattern here. When the HotS beta started, a good number of players started to stream the beta, only to switch back to the game they have to be good at a month later. A good portion of the viewers did not switch back, however. The same pattern seems to be repeating with the LotV beta: Barely any LotV is being streamed, and the people don't seem to be content with watching HotS again. If the pattern continues, we will continue to see rather low player stream numbers until LotV actually launches.
WCS/GSL
Up to 31000 viewers on average for a Ro32 group in WCS really ain't bad, and GSL is consistently over 10000 average viewers, too. Sweet.
Proleague
Steady numbers, as always. Nothing more to be said here.
That's all for this month. Hope you guys enjoyed, as always. Any kind of feedback is always welcome!

Nice as always
Would it possible, you think, to add organizations as well, like TakeTV or O'gaming? O'Gaming said yesterday in their wcs cast that, due to the fact they cast a shitton of events, they're #1 in viewers*hours on all sc2 twitch channels (but are ofc much smaller in avg viewers).
If that's true they would deserve to be there, somewhere... (maybe a special chart for organization?)
edit : spelling, grr

(maybe a special chart for organization?) edit : spelling, grr they are also #1 because they rerun their show as soon a they are over, so there is always content on the channel, even in the middle of the night. Like right now, they are broadcasting a rerun with close to 2k viewers =)

(maybe a special chart for organization?) edit : spelling, grr I'm intentionally only including player streams, and not organizations or talk shows or the like. It's just not as useful to rate TakeTV or O'gaming based on their average viewer count, since their viewership depends a whole lot on the event they're casting. And since a good deal of these organizations stream almost 24/7, it's only natural that their viewerhour number is incredibly high. I might do a top 50 list with every single SC2 stream (players, casters, events, organizations, etc.) some time, just for giggles, but it wouldn't really convey all that much useful information I'd say.

And it's a lot of viewers. Between 2500 and 3500 each time.
Not counting O gaming TV is understandable for most of the time, but their is also a lot of "player stream" on Ogaming and also the proleague and GSL with a delay. It's delayed, but casted in live condition. The streamers didn't watch the matches before and they don't cut most of the scenes. So they should be counted. And 3000 compared to 12000 is not negligible.

Also, we don't have a lot of player stream, we "only" have PtitDrogo who's streaming every day between 2-3 hours before the main broadcast. It's understandable that Conti does not want to add French views to the English one.
@Conti : If you want to add French views for next month send me a PM on TL.

Yeah I totally understand your point. But it seems to me that organisations are likely to slowly become the big guys on twitch, and are slowly creating a huge audience, whatever the content. BaseTrade TV seems to have high numbers no matter what, O'gaming's underdog (a tournament for french players only) get more and more audiance, and so on.
Moreover, in all your reports, we always have this sad impression of HotS being far lower than WoL, which is maybe true, but if we added the figures of these organisations (which for the most part only started to grow after HotS release) would the viewers difference be so big?

so noone streamed or watched lotv at all :s

Viewer count is so low if you compare to 2012/2013 + best streamers are teamless / casters. Pro players don't have much viewers...

On June 04 2015 21:29 nkr wrote: so noone streamed or watched lotv at all :s Part of the problem is it's a separate game on twitch. If it were the same game, lotv streamers could get more viewers and vice versa. Also, every pro complaining there is no ranked ladder. How long do you expect people to be entertained by unranked? :D
|
it is in Twitch.tv's best interests to have large viewer #s. they do nothing about view-botting.
this makes it impossible to trust the viewer numbers twitch.tv produces.

Didn't mean to insult O'gaming TV, sorry. And "only" one player everyday for 2 to 3 hours is kind of a lot... I'm sorry that I don't have an exact record of O'gaming activity and that I'm "just" giving my viewer point of view. I'm sorry that I tried to defend O'gaming on the viewer count. I will never talk again about OG tv, thanks for putting me at my humble place, where I belong.
