WCS AM will continue to include LatAm, Oceania/SEA, CN, and TW/HK/Macau, you can all stop freaking out about it. |
So... if Flash decides he wants to play WCS AM and moves to Brazil will he be able to play WCS AM?

so sad this happend agreed.. Koreans up'd the level of play and now this is screwing them over so hard b.c. WCS Korea is already so stacked. hopefully there is more to give for koreans Can someone PLEASE explain to me why they think this is a good change for Koreans and level of gameplay for viewers? I understand VERY well why it is good for foreigners, they get more spots and will not have to compete with most Koreans in WCS AM and EU. but this hurts the level of gameplay so much, and SO, MANY, KOREANS, who are not GSL Code S top 8 level will be unable to compete or most likely will retire or not be able to make a living with progaming. Do you think Pigbaby, Nestea, the entire Axiom team, Seed, Oz, just to name a few, would be able to compete in GSL Code S? No. So imagine if you saw most of the Axiom team disband, Nestea retiring, Seed retiring. What about jjajki, who just fell out of WCS EU? How would you feel then about this change? I feel like people would then see the consequences of this. They can get residence in the area they want to compete in WCS, like in most other sports. Otherwise, good luck to them in GSL.
You make it seem like I can call up the US embassy today and say "hey I play Starcraft can you give me a visa so I can compete in this thing called WCS AM". And then they give me a visa just like that and I can find a place to stay and everything.

Uh, what? College football/basketball is amazing fun to watch, even if I have zero connection with the teams.
You can have incredibly exciting games, without tip-top level skill. That's the point that's trying to be made, here. As long as there is something to play for, games can ALWAYS be exciting.

But yeah finding a place to live in a foreign country where you may or may not be fluent in the main language is tough stuff

Kinda too early to freak out right now to be honest. We don't know what the change will be in the full picture, such as how many points premier non-WCS tournament will give to the top 4, etc. If the points giving out for Dreamhack, IEM is on par with WCS, then it would not be that bad for Koreans.
We also still don't know that will Blizz help Korean to get a visa easier in the future or not too. I think if Blizz really want, they might have enough lobbying power (as Activision-Blizzard) to help some players get the visa easier than the current situation.

I will watch Avilo no matter what if he qualifies. Most entertaining style in the game in my opinion, no joke, I'm being serious.

I used Flash's name just as an example. And Brazil is not the best country to move to either, living here is expensive. But even moving to the other regions that have WCS qualifiers. A more realistic example would be TRUE moving to taiwan (think playing for yoe Flash Wolves).

While college sports is big, the viewership is still lower than that of professional leagues. It is heavily concentrated among people who have a connection to the schools in question.
I watch March Madness primarily because I have money wagered in some bracket. Without gambling, I seriously doubt the tournament would have the following it does right now. The point of that tournament is having lots of upsets and people generally don't pretend that the winner is the best team in the country.
SC2 fans are generally obsessed with crowning somebody as the best player. It would be unfortunate if the Blizzcon winner is still in that discussion considering how terrible the qualifications are.
