SKT T1 reduced the number of players, and focused on the efficiency in the third Round of Proleague.

SKT removed Coach Hyuk, Sorry, and Journey from their roster in Round three. This is as opposed to their player entries in round two which included a lot of rookies.

SKT had the most players at the start of the season. Recruited Soulkey, Bravo, and Classic, and including many rookies, they had tried a infinitely competition system. However, it was not successful through the first and second round.

They made it to the third and second place for the regular and playoff of the round one, but failing to make it to the playoff in the second round, disappointed the fans.

For the consequence, they made the changes for their roster for the third round.

The main purpose of this change seems to increase the individual performance of the players. There are nine remain players in the roster, and almost all of them are in GSL. Removing players who either failed to qualify for the individual league or perform well in Proleague, they are to give the players a fresh stimulation, and reducing the competition inside the team, to stablize their performance in Proleague.

Iloveoov, the coach of SKT said, "This is to get over the slump from the second round, and we will show more various weapons in the third round."

-------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems like Sorry and Journey are not actually out of the team for sure.

Not really sure if cutting players helps the other ones do better, but i'm interested to see if this works...

I feel bad for the players that were removed because this as this may very well mean an end to their carrier but I guess iloveoov knows what he is doing.

It doesn't seem like they fired the players. It seems like the removal is just temporary, and I think they are trying to give some motivation to practice harder.

Either way this is a very bizarre decision considering Journey has never played in ProLeague and Sorry only did so once in WoL (he lost against Bogus).

As for the players themselves, their records look quite weak, but both of them have had a knack for eliminating big names in qualifiers recently. For instance Sorry managed to beat Lure, aLive, KeeN, TesteR and NesTea this year, whereas Journey has had wins against Tear, GuMiHo and Creator.

Again, I cannot wrap my head around this decision considering they haven't even been fielded in ProLeague, so you can't even say "oh well they just want to field better players and win Round 3". That and, as mentioned above, they seem to have a decent amount of potential and if they got more opportunities to play they might eventually become really good.

I mean I don't claim to know them better than T1 but damn this is perplexing to say the least. :S

Its actually easy to figure out. The KeSPA houses and probably all Korean team houses, have some sort of internal ranking to see who the best player is at any given time and also to keep their skills honed. The rookes that got cut just weren't pulling their weight in the internal ranking, either in head to head, ladder or whatever other metric they use to measure success. Also the players that got cut failed to advance to Code A as well.

So it all makes sense to me, they just kept the strongest players to consolidate and focus, and its not like they don't have tons of star power already either, I think focusing on building a cohesive team is more important in the case of SKT then with other teams. They have the players, they just need to bind them into a good team, other teams usually have to raise new players and build them into their next generation of gamers.

I guess I was under the impression that T1 was more of a talent-breeding team than a talent-buying one, especially given their BW history. I mean don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the fact that they acquired STX Classic, PartinG and Soulkey and it certainly has served them well, but it seems strange that they'd choose to drop even more players (I mean they've lost quite a few since their initial incursion in SC2) rather than nurture them in the same way that they nurtured Dark, who's come a long way since being a little-known SlayerS B-teamer.

But I guess even IM these days chooses to pick-up established players and mercs rather than foster new talent.

And again, I can't really contest the team's knowledge and opinion on how well they were performing, but I can look at who they've beaten recently and say "not bad, kids probably have some talent".

So it's still sketchy to me. :S

They could still foster new talent in the future, but atm it just doesn't make sense for them. They already have tons of top talent on the team, now they need to work on making it work as a team. Also note, the market for good teamless players is still quite vast in Korea, not sure its worth it to try and grow new one at this point.

Removing from roster isn't the same as removing from the team, I'm pretty sure. On a guess, they were probably not performing properly in practice and iloveoov wanted to create vacancies for other players.

Journey just qualified for his first Code A, so his removal seems oddly-timed.

They prob felt sorry for the people who put them on their FPL team when they had no chance of being fielded.

I'm not sure. They only showed Journey because he was playing today. It sounds like they might be completely off the team though

"I think I'm going to start streaming soon."
I was watching Zergman's stream and Hyuk said in the chat that he will probably start streaming soon. I think he's cut from SKT for sure.

Due to the new format of PL (which I dislike) having a great number of players just has disavantages. It is more important for a PL team to have a few yet reliable solid players. And SKT1's new strategy shows this.
Also nine players is still a whole lot when only four (five) players can play in a match.
