Gonna rewatch some of these today... Life vs Mvp for sure.
I really hope Mvp gets back into form next year, I would love to see him in another big final.

But it's Fionn. If anyone knows the GSL and its history, it's Fionn. Awesome write up. Nostalgia is indeed flowing.

Mvp is to SC2 as Flash is to BW. There will never be a player that will catch my heart as Mvp.

Staying up all night to watch Mvp vs. Squirtle, and crying in joy after Mvp took game 7. WoL lacked the flair, but man, pre-Bloodlord Infestor era was probably the pinnacle of my professional SC2 experience as a fan. Mvp is to SC2 as Flash is to BW. There will never be a player that will catch my heart as Mvp. To be honest, 2012 started out pretty fantastic and the general level of gameplay was getting better all the time. Even foreigner terran was viable back then (thorzain).

Nonetheless, I want to thank Fionn for putting effort into this- it's a beautiful piece of work, and if I hadn't watched these finals before and read these descriptions, they'd get me so hyped up to watch them immediately that I'd be going over to gomnet and watch them now. Not necessarily, I enjoyed that finals overall and game 7 was an absolute heart-stopper that will always be one of my favorite games of all time. I just thought game 5 was incredibly boring and had a silly ending. I don't take issue with that finals being ranked #1 all time at all. And part of the reason it was easier to stomach than TvP generally is was that Mvp was playing such an unorthodox and aggressive style that saved us from 7 consecutive battles of the balls. As a squirtle fanboy, I thought it was a brilliant finals. The turtle fest as you called it was very very tense. Don't forget it was match point in the biggest finals! It was actually a bit of a fantasy gg timing it seemed, as squirtle just looked to get bm:ed out by nukes and BCs, but somehow his nerves did a much better job than mine (I was half crying restlessly with no nails left on my hands) and did it. And game 7.. seriously... ..but I love Mvp aswell so it almost felt ok.

I don't think flash vs jaedong on tau cross will ever be beaten lol. That said the drg vs innovation series impressed me almost as much

Squirtle's mental mistakes when he needed to be most clutch really devalues the most important game of the series for me. Obviously MVP's storyline was incredible and nearly single-handedly overcomes Squirtle's fail. Conversely, MMA and DRG made their mental mistakes earlier. Game 7 in that series was both players going all out, making no obvious blunders, (I disagree with DRG's strategic choices but given how active the entire game was, it's understandable), and featured two titans reaching their primes. DRG lost his last mining base to a tank that ran by him and he had seen in his vision. Don't forget letting a full medivac fly past his entire flock of mutalisk and kill half his infestors for free (Before boosters). While it was a brilliant risky move by MMA, it was an absolute game changing blunder by DRG.
