HwangSin announced through his facebook page that he will be retiring and this last GSTL match will be one of the last games he will be playing.

This is his message

저 게이머 그만두고 새 삶을 살기로 결정했습니다.여태까지 응원해주셨던 분들 다 감사하고 다른 게이머분들 꼭 성공하시길!

I'm not a professional gamer from now on. I just wanted to say that the GSTL was my retirement game for gamer life. There's no more chance to play game anymore. . I'm so sorry! AND Thank you all. GG
I decided to live a new life for gamers quit. as far as rooting is done, let me thank you and make sure those successes to other gamers you!

HwangSin was known as one of the strongest Protoss players in the scene with notable achievements such as placing top 7/8 in MLG, and making premier league of WCS NA.

He will be playing one last professional match in Quantic vs TL in ATC season 2 so please cheer for him as he will do best for the team!!!!

Please wish HwangSin well in whatever he does in the future.

Final message to HwangSin as a manager

+ Show Spoiler +
HwangSin, you were my team captain, and I know that we disagreed on decisions all the time, but your thoughts always had value in our final decisions. Whenever I was unsure of what to do, I asked you for your opinion, and you always helped me openly. With your departure, I feel that I will have a very hard time managing the team because I have lost our team captain. I am sad that you will be leaving your life as a progamer, but happy as well because you will be opening a new chapter in your life. I wish you the best in any endeavors you will have in the future.

Known of HwangSin for a long time now - didn't think it was possible for him to retire! Will be sad to see him go, but I appreciate the time and effort he put in and wish him the best going forward =)

Good luck HwangSin!

I understand he's your player so it's easy for you to be bias but that's very far from the truth.

I've never been your fan, because you do stuff like this. You get upset (rightfully) when people make fun of your weight.

But then you come into someone's retirement thread and say stuff like this. Really?

Sorry if you think I was mistaken, or don't share the same views as me, but in Wings he was certainly one of the stronger protosses, and has some notable achievements.

Maybe to you it was an exaggeration, but this thread isn't the place to say it regardless. Just like this forum isn't the place to point out desrow's weight even if you aren't exaggerating. Stating either here is incredibly rude and classless.

Hwangsin is an awesome player, and he deserves better than this.

Aren't opinions always biased?

This is a retirement thread and I don't think people should even discuss the statement. I feel like overstating a players value is just natural when he was one of your best and he retires. GL to hwangsin in the future and I may actually watch ATC for once to cheer him on in his last game ^.^

It´s not about being right, it´s just incredibly rude to discuss them in a retirement thread. If you are really that bothered by it, send the OP a PM, but don´t discuss it here, that is offensive towards HwangSin.

You're the man HwangSin, and I'll miss watching your play in tournaments and streams! My only regret is if this means I'll never be able to attend a tournament and meet you!

HwangSin's run at the MLG 2012 Fall Championships was sick, beating great players and finishing at the same level as TaeJa, and he was also very good very early in WoL. If you assume "one of the strongest" means top five, then sure, he wasn't able to make it there, but he was a very strong Protoss, capable of beating some of the best with occasional very impressive results, and consistently impressive enough results to keep him in many of the highest leagues. He was also always believed in strongly by those around him, a great addition to any team, and a really fun and great guy to hang out with on stream. He did far more than most who try their hand at professional Starcraft, and should be given due credit.

I always appreciated his effort to be improving and communicating with any stream viewers that he had, which were always sadly in very low numbers.

I absolutely agree that it's extremely rude to be discussing the person's skill in his retirement thread. Sure, you don't agree with the claim in the OP, just leave it at that. No need to be a jerk especially for someone who tried his best not to be a faceless korean, but was ultimately not fated to be a memorable character in our eyes.

I wish Hwangsin all the best.

HwangSin is a really nice guy, and has been unfortunately faced with some crappy team situations (all the teams he's been on have phased out or had issues) but he definitely gave it a solid try. And he had some respectable results too including top 8 at NASL S2 where I first met him.

We'll miss you bud. Maybe we'll see you back sometime in the future.

The ego^^

It´s not about being right, it´s just incredibly rude to discuss them in a retirement thread. If you are really that bothered by it, send the OP a PM, but don´t discuss it here, that is offensive towards HwangSin.

I did not mean to be offensive in any way. I did not even say that he is a bad Player (like others did) - I just mentioned what I think about when I think of him. And last but not least I was serious by wishing him all the best.

I understand he's your player so it's easy for you to be bias but that's very far from the truth.

I've never been your fan, because you do stuff like this. You get upset (rightfully) when people make fun of your weight.

But then you come into someone's retirement thread and say stuff like this. Really?

It's a crappy trend in the first place for every retirement thread, regardless of how good the player retiring actually was (speaking generally, not towards HwangSin), to label them as one of the best players, thereby demeaning the value of what being one of the best really means. The OP is supposed to be the centerpiece for which discussion surrounds. The skill of a player can be very subjective without substantial achievements (which is unfortunate for HwangSin). If you put something that someone might dispute into the OP itself, people are going to bring it up.

TL;DR don't put controversial stuff in an OP if you dont want people to "come into a retirement thread and say stuff." It happens EVERY SINGLE time. Blame the OP, not desRow. This discussion would have never come to this point, and HwangSin's integrity in his final thread would remain intact if every OP who ever made a retirement thread didn't fluff a player's achievements.

Also don't worry, I'm sure desRow will correct his own retirement thread too.

sheesh, you people. It's a retirement thread for God's sake! Either bid HwangSin a farewell etc... or leave it be. Stop destroying the thread over something like this. I only saw a couple of HwangSin's games so I can't say how good of a player he is. Either way, best of luck in what you do HwangSin!

What I wrote about Hwangsin when Quantic formed:
HwangSin has been the biggest team player that I have ever seen from ANY korean player on a foreign team. He works so hard, always tries to talk with his teammates, always has something nice to say for everyone and is really active on Skype. His first words back after a Top 8 performance at MLG were "hey Nick, should I be coach so I can help my team more?" HwangSin's English has improved so much and he has taken the opportunity of being on a foreign team so well and made an amazing atmosphere for all of us here at It's Gosu (now Quantic). No one is more deserving than HwangSin and I am so proud to see him rise and have success.

Dude was dedicated as hell and I'm proud I can call him a former teammate in captain. One of the genuine nicest and most helpful guys I've ever met in esports.

I didn't use to like HwangSin, but bit by bit, he won me over by being awesome with things he said and from all the great things I'd read about him, the aforementioned smackdown being the most memorable. I think more highly of him because of that than I would if he was just "one of the best protoss players in the world", which, to be honest, he isn't.

I really liked Hwangsin, and will continue to like him. And I'm sad that, instead of highlighting what was truly great about him, the OP lazily called him "one of the strongest Protoss players" and left it at that.

Hwangsin has been around for a while so it will be sad to see him go so many retirements ;~;
edit: also in reply to poke's post.. yeah I gotta agree. He was one of the most fun people to talk to in tournament chat lobbies before matches started. Really outgoing guy even though he was korean.

LOL desrow making fun of someone elses skill... that's hilarious. I'm sure Hwangsin is absolutely crushed to see desrow's opinion of him so low bahahaha

Much love Hwangsin and hope you find happiness in whatever you do from here on out, great, great guy and that's really what matters in the end.

doesn't really matter how good desrow is at the game, because desrow's opinion of hwangsin is actually a fact.

I think people are primarily turned off by desrow's callous and insensitive statement, given the fact that he's morbidly obese and has shown a great deal of sensitivity and hurt when others have made comments about his weight, etc. There's a time and place for that kind of thing, but in Hwangsin's "send off" thread it just seemed sort of tasteless and petty. That's my two cents anyway.

GL in life HwangSin -- wishing you all the best.

And? Your logic doesn't make sense; you pointed out a difference in arguments, but failed to explain why said difference matters. Wake up, it doesn't!

Attacking someone isn't okay. It doesn't make it justified to attack desrow because he is overweight, nor it is okay to attack someone in their retirement thread because they didn't win everything.

This is a time to celebrate his accomplishments, not sit around and talk about how bad he was. This is a retirement thread, don't hijack it with hate.

I agree. I'm a fan of Hwangsin, and I'm sad to see him retire... but it's still not appropriate to lie about his success or talent. He was a decent pro-gamer, but he wasn't ever in the conversation for Top 10- let alone Top 5- Protoss players... at any point in time, for that matter.

But more importantly, he will be missed ♥

That should be directed at the OP for making things up, not at desrow for stating a fact. You don't get to lie just because someone is retiring. It's a hard truth to hear, but it wouldn't have been brought up in the first place if the OP didn't say what he said.

Well I would think that the OP would have said "in NA" then, for clarification... and even still, I don't know how high he ranks there/ if that would be appropriate to say.

But either way, I'm going to stop participating in the discussion. It should be a You Will Be Missed thread, not a Critique thread.

If people can't focus on the fact that you were an awesome guy, you're retiring, and nitpick about stupid shit then this scene probably doesn't deserve you.
