The simple way to detect barcode guy

Not so long ago ive found the way to detect the nickname of the barcode guy

for example,

we have

he bm'ed vs NaViStrelok on stream (not a lot!)

Our steps:
1)Find him at sc2ranks ( there is a lot ways to do that - for example, search on sc2ranks, sc2gears, etc)
2)Click "Replays with this player"
http://www.sc2ranks.com/character/eu/3475679/IIIIIIIIIIII/replays
3)Check the old replays of this player
The constantly repeating name is a real nickname of this player

here it is!

now we can PM him "hi N" in the chat after the game

Notes:
1)It does not work with accounts that were created with barcode intially
2)Sometimes account does not have replays but almost always ( >95% in top master league ) there are a lot of replays
( sc2ranks is collecting replays from 2010 and uses the b.net id! )

Thats pretty simple and obvious way, but it works pretty well and nobody uses it!

maybe someone can write a sc2gears plugin? ;D

Is there a reason we should detect barcode players? Its actually the same if a progamer plays with a smurf account.

I imagine this would be pretty good to locate MHers, excessive BMers and the like.

So basically this only works if someone renames an account with a recogniseable name to a barcode, and will fail on any account that was always a smurf?

Smart idea but most smurf accounts were created with the barcode name (|||||||||||/||||||||/||||||||||| etc.) initially.

exactly. that's what the OP points out under "notes"

Still, it's a nice tool to have since there are a lot of players in masters who just renamed their accounts. With regards to notorious MHs though, I don't think it is gonna help alot since they usually get new accounts rather regularly (ie after ban waves)

Yea first thing you should look for - how much times in the career he was in ML/GML/../

if 3+ then your chances to detect are very high (that means it is not a new account)

Im playing in 150th places EU GML and im detecting like 70%+ of barcodes (did that 20+ times)
But i think it should work better in low ML/dia etc and a lot worse on pro- level

Haha, it's quite careless that a player would simply rename an account to a barcode. It's cool to see someone else work on the same problem I worked on! I built something that assesses similarity between players from replays that would have some similar functionality quite recently. Basically, what it boiled down to is that people aren't actually so interested in figuring out who barcodes are. Most pro players probably know the idiosyncrasies of others to the extent that they can form a pretty damn good guess. And non-pros don't really care at all.

So if I play a barcode on battle.net, how do I find his account? You didn't really answer the question since you already had his battle.net profile which makes it a lot easier... How do you get to their battle.net profile?
