God I hated MKPs color of choice on his glasses. I mean, who the hell picks up some red glasses? Or snow white??

At least switch to Dota 2. This is embarrasing to the starcraft 2 community. At least I'd still hold lots of respect for going into a competitive game like dota 2. Don't get me wrong i respect marineking for his amazing games and effort he put into starcraft but this is just.... no.

But LoL is more competitive - more fans, more money, higher quality of tournaments.

And let's not pretend DotA is not casual - it was that map everyone played because they sucked at Warcraft.

As for the news - expected. There are not a lot more money than the SC2 scene and there is little incentive for new sponsors to chime in, moving to the biggest eSport game is the smart move.

Doesn't mean I won't miss him.

LoL worlds barely got more viewers than the TI3 finals. (LoL was at 1.4m, I don't remember exactly what the final number for TI3 was including all sources such as Highwind, but it was over 1m).

Considering the huge difference in player base, I think that pretty clearly shows that a lot of people think Dota is the better game to *watch* competitively. And if I'm a professional gamer, that's what I care about. Otherwise you'd be playing Candy Crush on Facebook if you decided based on the number of casual players.

League of Legends World Final Officially the Most Watched Event in Gaming History:

"Over 8,000 traveled from all corners of the globe to cheer on Azubu Frost and the Taipei Assassins in person

More than 8,282,000 unique viewers tuned in for the World Finals via TV and stream worldwide (including 2,402,225 TV viewers in Korea and China)

At peak, over 1,154,000 people were watching online alone (not counting any TV numbers) during the World Finals

Over the course of both the World Playoffs and Finals, people watched 24,230,688 hours of League of Legends"

did TI3 really have a number this close?

That is last years Worlds. This year was probably a lot higher.

i watch more dota than lol and i think lol is more entertaining right now. it's faster paced and more action heavy. though dota has some cool moments

I hope he sticks with MKP still as a nick. He can drop the marine king and just use MKP only. Everyone calls him MKP anyways.

Noo! Not MKP! This actually made me sad
Have been following him since forever, and I must admit I'm not overly fond of LoL.
Oh well, he finally gets to use the ID OptimusPrime...

MKP inspired a lot of current SC2 fans, especially fans of boxer-style micro and aggression/cheese. I'd say he's a big enough drawcard for a lot of the elite SC2 community to give LoL a chance. I know I will be following his progress in LoL closely, and at time of writing I've only watched a handful of matches and have found it terrible viewing (won't stop me from following MKP).

I can also pull numbers out of my ass ,but probably not as skillfully as Riot.

24.230.688 hours of League Legends watched is truly fascinating and worthless statistic created solely for the reason "we want big numbers for our shitty game".
In reality it says that 1 person on average watched 20 hours of playoffs and finals.

It is easier if you put Koreans versus foreigners.

MKP couldn't follow the younger players (Maru, life, Dream, etc). He dropped out of code B 2 weeks ago.

Leagues of Legend is much less demanding in term of mechanics, maybe he can achieve something there.

oh yea how did I miss that lol
guess the tweets are what we have so far:
Dustin Beck ‏@RiotRedBeard 1h
You guys are mind-blowing!! Over 1mm ccu for game 1 on Twitch/YT/Azubu/DM, and that doesn't even include the two countries playing!!

Dustin Beck ‏@RiotRedBeard 1h
Hard to get real-time data from China/Korea, but we'd conservatively estimate another 1mm on their streams. And then there's TV...

Dustin Beck ‏@RiotRedBeard 1h
TV hard to predict live, but again conservative estimates put it at over 4mm households...best fans ever

Love the switch. Best of luck to him in the League.

What a disappointing amount of insecure bashing in this thread though...

Why are people getting warned for stating that blizzard is making mistakes?

MKP is one of my favourite players, i really enjoyed early 2012 when he was dominating the scene. Great player, but unfortunateley, he chose to play LoL. I really hope that Dota 2 will become more popular in Korea...
I'd really want to see lets say MarineKing mid vs Dendy or Korok
