Sound was a cool guy. Good luck with the future.

Family issues probably went like this.

Parents - You should quit pro gaming, you're not really earning enough to make it worth it.

Sound - But, I'm in WCS AM challenger at the moment with a chance to go to premier!

Parents - Career earnings - $5,750

Sound - Ok mom and dad, you're right.

It hurts how narrow-minded posts like these are...

How is that narrow minded? That seems like a logical family conversation, family can put huge pressure on each other.

Because, like I pointed out, Sound is one of the more successful B-teamers across both eSF and Kespa in terms of tangible results. He's proven himself multiple times to be a talented player, and with Red Bull looking to get more involved in SC2, that would only brighten his prospects.

Besides, if he really wasn't earning enough from SC2, he could just own online tournaments like other Korean players did before their eventual breakout/resurgence (see: HyuN, Revival, San, Creator etc)

He doesn't earn enough money to make a reasonable living is my guess, considering most Korean teams don't play salary. and he probably had to take care of his parents to which happens a lot in Korea, and I guess he wasn't able to that while being a SC2 player.

To be fair this season it was kind of embarrassing if you didn't all-kill NSH. I was wondering why his name was scored through in the WCS AM Challenger League groups (looked everywhere and couldn't find any info). Guess this explains it.

Axiom-Acer and Prime confirmed worst teams evah :D
Also, groups are auto-formed should you lose in bracket stage, so since Sound forfeit it there, he was auto-placed in group. Like Idra.

Sound pretty much confirmed he's retiring. Won't be participating in WCS NA. Hope they make an official announcement soon.

thats not what he was saying though, you seemed to be the narrow minded one, he was just talking about family. Its hard to be doing something that you love when the people you love tell you not to. Maybe his parents just felt that he needed to continue education, i would say its the right time for it considering the summer is ending. (Idk if korean schools are the same time as ours)

It just seems like he made a valid point saying that his parents might have put pressure on him.

You're right, that is a valid point.

However going "durr he only won $6k no wonder he retired" is an absurdly stupid claim. And I have reason to believe it's the latter.

You're right, in Korea it's actually a lot worse. More along the lines of "I will disown you and/or beat you upon sight if you return home" happened to two people in the ProS house, so they never went home. One is currently in the army, the other sleeps around friends homes avoiding going home as he never became a pro-gamer. You have no idea how badly parents view pro-gamers who are not big before telling their parents. As usually kids keep it a secret until they do something big and/or get invited to a pro-team. Those who tell their parents they're doing it before hand usually are under strict time-limits or face serious neglect.

I see where you're coming from but I don't see how that relates to Sound who is (or was, I guess) on one of the bigger and more stable Korean pro teams, in Star Tale. Not to mention he's had better results than most Kespa and eSF B-teamers.

So yeah it's a bit presumptuous to claim that's what "family issues" means in this case.

I believe I heard some time ago that StarTale only payed two people salaries Bomber, and July at the time...
The korean scene most of the time does not pay their players salaries so it's understandable that they can't help and support their parents.
