They rented a beach house when their income was only guaranteed for 3 months...yeah...

They dont win tournaments, they just play it.
You don't have to win tournaments to be a part of the community and have fans.
Sure you are right .... but how do you get the money from sponsors without any pretty good results ?!
What a weird world in we live :/
ofc i wish Root just the best ... was just a simple question for me it seems like there is no simple answer for it which will fit :D
I'm sure theres an answer. I don't know how it works exactly , but I would imagine that the more people that watch their streams, the sponsors probably pay them more, or perhaps if they get people to buy stuff from their sponsors they get a cut of it. In addition, they have people that subscribe to their streams which basically gives each of them a monthly income, and they also get donations and anything like that.
The vast majority of the money that made this possible was from a fundraiser. Which isn't constant income. I don't know the numbers with how much streamers make, they keep it so secret Regardless they have 3 people streaming currently with 940 viewers, that seems low. With the sub feature, they would have needed over 1700 subs just to cover the airfare. Their sponsor list seems small as well. This endeavor was brought to you by generous fans.
Good thing is that a lot of the money went to one-time-only expenses (security deposit, furniture, car), but I agree. I do not see them sustaining the house on streaming alone (nor did I ever expect them to). Most likely, they will resort to selling merchandise, but I am also eager to see, what else they come up with,

For sure they need much more for income than they have now ... cuz i think they have a fanbase but its not that big at the moment, cuz they miss a leading light, like other teams have it.
I really hope they can keep it up with the teamhouse !

Pretty sure we're not talking about your ordinary single family internet.
Well considering top internet package from comcast is $115. I am assuming there was another $50-$100 install charge. Considering what they spent they might have gotten a tv/phone package as well. Only other thing I could think of was that they purchased a business plan but that is usually slower speeds than home plans.
Either way Comcast = Scam, same goes for Charter and any other cable company that gives these bullshit speeds for such a high cost.
Out of curiosity, what is a bullshit speed for you?
100 down and 5 up is bullshit. The down is ok but the fact you only get 5 up for >$100 per month is bullshit.

Or they could of went with commercial pricing (such as a direct fiber line) instead of your standard residential plans that you normally see. If they did indeed go with the business plan, then the amount they are paying isn't to far out of reach for the speeds they should be receiving.
Business speeds are slower than residential speeds most of the time. Also knowing comcast that is most likely true. Also comcast doesn't do fiber.
Call me crazy but I'm confused how this is expected to sustainable when fan donations were apparently needed for the vast majority of start up costs...and only covered the first month.

the main thing that is bullshit is the upload. You having 50 down is plenty to use. Also even though I was paying for 100 down I never reached those speeds on any of my downloads.

You have to remember that things are advertised as bits instead of bytes(8 bites=1 byte). So, 100 down is actually only a speed of 10mb/s. The new google fiber lines and Japanese lines are between 100-200mb/s; advertised as 1-2gig lines. What he is saying about upload is very true. It does not have ample cost differential between up/down and it's literally just private companies without competition being able to do what they want. The best area to get internet is a place where the ground is very cool; so added heat also increases prices. That, or you can just go to insane industrial hubs like Seoul or Tokyo and get insane net for very very cheap because it's in such demand.
In any case, I've heard many iffy things about cc during peak times so hopefully their streams hold up well, and in other games as well. Will be sweet to see a large majority of their house streaming all at once

You can also get near 100/100Mb speed in certain locations in San Francisco and berkeley for only 45$ a month by an isp called WebPass. They also advertise some areas as 200/200 but I don't have experience with that to confirm how accurate it is.

This, and maybe get them waxing cars and painting fences? As soon as they start to complain, stick them next to the keyboard and hey presto.... They'll smash it into pieces and become the Karate champs they were born to be!
Wait... That might not help the SC2 much, maybe don't do that...
