i think it makes complete sense to me:
if you are chosing NA as your region, you might as well deal with the lag.
You dont want the lag?
Go and play in Korea!
True victory is winnig without a fight.

IF there is less latency on korea, play on KR. This isn't about catering to the players, both of them are gonna have the same delay anyways. It's about the game that you people are going to watch. It's about catering TO YOU.

IF the latency issues are the same on KR and NA servers then ffs, play wherever you want. We can flip a coin about it, not like it matters at all in that case.

I think that most players would really prefer playing on low delay vs an opponent with low delay as compared to both playing with high delays actually Just my personal view

I don't get why this issue came up NOW instead of the first match that this was relevant to o______O;; can anyone explain why?

If you read more carefully, you'd find that I was referring mainly to the part I bolded in what he said, which kind of implied that the viewers are the only ones who stand to benefit from less delay and the players get nothing out of it..

The others living in Korea are subjected to the same rules. When you watched their matches did you notice ANY difference? No, probably not. They didn't have any problems defeating DeMuslim in the qualifier playing from KR, which means there is bound to be little to no difference. So please, stop saying the quality of games will be so 'sub-par' that you will be personally affected by the issue.

The only reason it is an issue now is because Major just happened to mention it. When Koreans (and Europeans) play in the TSL they have to play on NA as well (I believe, don't crucify me).

What he meant by "both of them are gonna have the same delay anyways" is that if they play on KR they'll both have the same low delay, if they play on NA they'll both have the same higher delay. Either way the numbers are approximately equal, whether it's high or low.

And yes, many people seem to forget that this isn't just players playing in a tournament, but also content that Blizzard wants us to watch. So in that sense, the delay doesn't only matter for their comfort while playing, but also for our own enjoyment of the games that ensue.

When they sign up for NA they should play on NA.

Everyone jump on the MLG hatin bandwagon!

In all seriousness, this is absolutely fine IMO. You want to play on NA? you have to play with lag.

IMO, it's not exactly the same for them to play on the KR server than to play on the NA server - one of them might be better in high latency situations than the other, hence would have a relative advantage if they both played on NA vs. on KR. For example, lets say on KR, Player 1 > Player 2, but Player 2 is better at playing in high-latency situations than Player 1 such that on NA Player 1 = Player 2. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the players to play on the NA server since that is what they were prepared to do in the first place anyway (ie. play in high-latency conditions).

my theory:
HerO did raise concerns, issue was discussed in the TL office and they decided to throw it up for public discussion as to not get backlash or to have better arguments towards organizers.

Basically the whole argument in favor of this decision goes like this:

This is WCS America. Therefore if Koreans want to play they should be punished as much as possible with high delay. The fact that this makes the matches worse and the viewing worse is irrelevant.

Major complained on Twitter.

TL team managers could have emailed us direct instead of creating a forum thread. I don't get what something like this is expected to do outside of creating a mountain out of a mole hill.

As to the issue at hand, this is the first we're hearing of complaints. If players choose to play on NA, they are expected to deal with the region's server and schedule.

We're working very hard to improve upon the rocky qualifier start. Any players, teams, etc. should contact us directly through the appropriate communication channels to discuss concerns around the competition.

Yes, but the OP is made with the pretty clear intent of getting the community fired up about the issue and getting the rule changed.

They chose to play with lag by signing up for WCS America in the first place. That is an agreement to play on the American/NA server, they already knew they were going to play on lag. Only reason this is an issue is because Major complained on twitter and someone from the TL site posted it as a thread because it involves one of their players.
