What you mean to say is that, "without Koreans," we still have cake but not PIE!

And if the negative consequences of this event are being overstated, then I can't wait for things to be clarified.

I really am not surprised that some of these removing KeSPA from the equation rumors appear to be inaccurate. For one, the second source says that Blizzard negotiated with KeSPA, so it wouldn't make sense for KeSPA to give up its major individual league without substantial payment. Also, KeSPA has semi-ownership of half of Korea's players. It makes no sense to alienate them. There would have to be an incredulous amount of stupid for those bad rumors to be correct.

Considering the diminished role OGN has with KeSPA let alone their current schedule of titles? I'd certainly not be shocked if Blizzard was the one to open up lines with them to discuss, "Hey we want more SC2 on your network!"

Why? Every time a European hockey team wins its because the NHL pros from NA were not there? You do realize that most NA teams in professional sports(excluding soccer) could mop the floor with any other team in the world. Does that stop them from having their own leagues? Do people not watch college football, claiming, “Well there are no NFL players so these kids are jokes.” There are soccer teams for tons of countries and only some are top tier.

Also there is no amateur competitive league so we should see top players play each other more then in real sports.

It has nothing to do with limiting competition and high level players till play, against each other . All professional sports have this system of dividing up leagues by skill/region. In baseball there are the major and minor leagues. If you make it to the minor leagues, you might get picked up by a major league team. College football feeds directly into the NFL. College hockey and the European leagues freed the NHL. College basket ball feeds into the NBA. Kespa stars aren’t born, they are crafted and trained.

You cannot have a competitive anything if there are not different level of competition. Its not about a foreign beat Flash or Life. It is about finding the foreign play with the potential and drive to beat them and having a system that will cultivate that player into becoming that player, training with the best and then beating them. Its not about “practicing harder”, but creating a system where players are taught how train that hard.

And every event does not need to be the best players in the would. College football is awesome. March madness(college basketball) is some of the most watched TV in America right now. Guess what, none of those players are the best in the world. And the NBA and NFL will still happen. We don’t need to choose, we can have it all.

That's a bad comparison because in athletics those kids are still developing their game whereas in gaming it works very differently. The age group is vastly different as in they need to develop a lot longer, i.e. Flash and BaBy were child prodigies. I do agree on having minor leagues and major leagues though. That's why the OSL had survivor tournaments. That's why Pro Gamers earned their right through Courage. That's why the GSL has Code B, A and the grand Daddy of them all S (which in reality has very limited meaning now once you look at the groups).

I agree that Flash and BaBy were likely the most talented people that enter the progaming scene in Korea, but the system they had focused that talent into the players they are today. The problem in NA is that we don’t have any system to find that talent or a system to cultivate it. And even if we could find that player, we wouldn’t know what to do with him or her and you can’t just send some kid off to train in Korea without building it up to it.

Those are only two examples though. I decided to use the most popular ones because a lot of people know their story. As for the NA scene, there are a few guys who have a good eye for scouting talent here. One of which is headlining the CSL atm. Pretty good gig if you ask me. There are plenty of opportunities here. As for cultivating such a thing, well that's completely different and unfortunately I never see that changing. This pre-dates to the BW days where a bunch of guys would join Korean guilds/clans and practice in those houses. As if they were already a member of a Pro Gaming team where you live it and breath it. This type of endeavor isn't for everyone. Just like sail racing all across the world isn't for everyone. You see how those guys live? Holy shit. I couldn't imagine it.
