MLG would be fine without the koreans..
You're being delusional.
Yes, they'd likely be fine as an organization but there would be a sharp drop off in viewership.
Seriously..would you watch the best of the best going at it in the RO8s where every matchup seems to be Code S Finals material?
Or..would you see Idra vs Demuslim in Ro4?
:/..

i would definitely watch idra vs demuslim in ro4. generally, i see higher numbers for foreigner streamers than korean streamers so the idea that people wont watch an all foreigner tournament is silly. i wont speculate on how much of a drop in viewership there would be, but i imagine it would drop, just not sure how much.

I would watch the shit out of Flash vs Life while i wouldn't watch Life stream. It's just different to a point.

And to the question: I would much prefer Flash vs Life finals over IdrA Demuslim. While i love to watch IdrA or Demuslim stream, i want the craziest micro with sickest macro you can get on the planet in a final. If that is displayed by a foreigner, that's the icing on the cake. nomnom. Now im hungry TT.

Thats the thing
If the best players in SC2 were NA/Euro players, and koreans were getting in the way somehow, by all means, make the changes. But quite simply, the koreans are the best of the best and why go for an inferior product for the sake of having more "home-grown" talent in the tournament and discriminating based on region.
Tournaments like WCG, MLG, WCS, IPL etc should be about the best of the best in the world against each other and by cutting out the koreans youre basically taking that concept away.

of couse this is all hypothetical talks.

Is anyone else optimistic about this as I am? I see so much doom and gloom comments already before things play out. I mean I seen for years people wanted Blizzard to get more involved in Esports and here they are....It is almost like there is a daily requirement of whining.

Oh, that one.
Well, can't blame Blizzard when your own game is making a shit ton of money and you can't claim anything.
And people still wonder why Blizz won't give up LAN when you know what Kespa did with it.

MLG had the right balance in 2011 when they only invited 4 Koreans per tournament. (more could come if they paid their own way) Of course MLG had a lot of problems in 2011, what with extended series and their awful point system, but the Koreans:Foreigners ratio was one thing they did right.

I am also totally optimistic about this. Blizzard seems to put a lot of effort and money in this, and from what i see SC2 does need it in Korea. I just hope it will also be good for the players, which are the most important part. If for some reason playing SC2 gets even less profitable for the korean players, then i'm sure a lot of people will stop playing. But i really doubt Blizzard is doing shit.

So up until now we don't know if:
-it's bad or good news
-OSL will do a SC2 tournament or not
What do we know? Nothing.
I can't wait 1 week for probably the biggest news in SC2 history.

The game was not making a shit ton of money. Blizz wanted money, but there wasn't any to be had really.

According to Scarlett earlier in this thread, OSL is staying, SPL and GSTL aren't getting any changes.

so if Scarlett knows and is telling the truth, all the Korean leagues will apparently remain unchanged.

i seriously have no idea what the big change could be then, aside from maybe the final Code S seed being Dustin Browder's grandmom.
