Some people have been pointing out that they quit because the scene is over-saturated with good players (even more so since the Kespa have returned to claim their birthright). I mean if you gamble your entire career on qualifying for just ONE tournament (GSL) then good luck and have fun. This is why the Proleague format is the best. You don't see players quit just because they fail to qualify for individual leagues since there's always the PL to fall back on (that plus a stable salary). If anyone is even to blame then it should be GOM since they had 2+ years to make SC2 progamer a viable career (and they kind of failed). Brace yourselves because we'll see a lot more players retiring in the near future as well (with majority of them being non-Kespa, that's for sure).

We as fans know that, sponsors and teams know that, and the fact that people stop playing esports on a professional level should be another motivation for organizers, team managers etc. to work even harder to push e-sports to even higher levels! A german football player, playing in the "Dritte Bundesliga" which kinda would be code B in SC2 can still live from is salary without too hard problems. I'm so hoping we will get this status also into e-sports among the next ten or twenty years...
