I can't see it effecting their GSTL team all that much since it pretty much relies on Gumiho, Tear and Leenock to win anyway.

lol? Whale was known for his creep spread and Asd for his micro. Both would come out in team leagues from time to time. The problem isn't their skill level, it's just that there isn't enough viewers or money floating around the sc2 scene to keep supporting so many pro gamers. As viewer numbers continue to decline, so too does the amount of professionals.

Actually, the viewer numbers doesnt decline, there are more viewers than ever, its just that there are more events nowadays, which means that viewers and money are more spread out, but rest assure; the total amount of viewers is actually increasing.

This thread is about FXO players retiring, not about whether SC2 is dying or not. Please do not derail the thread.

Honestly, it's sad, but understandable. GSTL never carries the same weight as GSL or the ProLeague, and I haven't really heard from those guys in a while now.

Dont derail this thread guys, they retired because there wasnt a future for them in SC2, its time to move on with life before you grow too old to do anything else.

I don't get it. Long ago I saw asd's stream and he was quite good. He had some of the best mechanics I've ever seen.

Sad news.

I didn't really know these players as I don't follow FXO really. However is there a reason why they retired?

You can be known for anything thats not the issue the issue is actually winning. If you don't win or at least have the potential to win championships you aren't needed, if you are a sniper for a particular match up then you are useful too but you still have to have talent. All of the players that are retiring here don't have the talent to win championships and they aren't great snipers either so they retired which was a good thing for them rather than wasting their time.

As for your viewers or money point is not even remotely true. There is more viewers in the history of SC2 right now its just the market is saturated. There is no decline its just people are picking and choosing different things to watch. For FXO they don't pay their players or at least not the lower players maybe they pay leenock I don't know its not a problem about money. They have sponsors and they are run by a company with a lot of money so there isn't an issue with them. And if you mean there isn't enough money for prizes, wow get your head out of your ass there is more money right now than there ever has been. The only thing is if you compare it to LoL (which is very unfair) we have less but go to sc2earnings and look at how much money players are earning and that isn't including salaries which a good proportion of the players that win tournaments are getting as well. So there is lots of money if you are actually good at the game.

So my original point stands, they just weren't good enough and they retired because they were wasting their time.

SC2 7k viewers

There aren't any big streamers on right now. Jaedong gets more than 7k if he is streaming. Event streams get more than personal streams too so your point is really skewed because there is pretty much nothing going on to draw viewers in because we are spoiled for choice in really great content.

I'd rather not continue to derail the thread further (so this is my last post in here), but Idra alone used to get 15k plus viewers everytime he streamed. Now he gets 2k if he is lucky. Come on now, 7k is nowhere near enough to sustain the sc2 pro scene. This is the real reason so many teams are closing shop and many of the pros are retiring or switching to LoL.

Anyways I still think you're comments on ASD and Whale are completely ridiculous. They were, and still are, good enough to stay competitive with the best of the best. Maybe not win a championship or anything but they were still strong enough to be considered a pro gamer. Not everyone can be a star player you know.....

Real talk, they weren't going anywhere and tried hard to be successful for 2 years and couldn't make it, so they're moving on with their lives. Yeah It's sad if you're a fan of them but It's not a big blow to the sc2 scene at all.

Good luck to the players with whatever they do next.

Real talk, ya I agree. These 3 weren't the best on FXO and their presences were short-lived. However, I feel bad for FXOasd since he did show some talent in the beginning of his SC2 career, but could not follow up and make something more of it. GL to them in their future endeavors.

Twitch counts HotS and WoL as seperate games, for one. And even then, who cares if LoL has more viewers at a specific time when you decided to click on the directory? The NFL always gets more viewers per game than MLB or NBA. Lets not even talk about golf and tennis. The whole, "SC2 is dying because the number next to LoL is larger" argument is so dumb it hurts my head.

Sounds like FXO is economizing a bit.

Let's hope they decide to remain committed to SC2.

I think so, FXOTear said in his interview he would have retired if he didn't pass those preliminaries

What if he loses first round though?

I'm kind of shocked about Tear thinking about retiring. The others... yeah, asd once in a while sniped in GSTL, but they weren't amounting to much. Tear was showing a lot of skill, so it's a little surprising he wasn't more confident in his abilities. I wish him well.
