I think you have very overinflated ideas of what a lawyer costs. Anything over $200 is simply a ripoff (unless you're super rich and simply want the .001% most experienced guy ever), even for a super specialist. And contracts isn't exactly that specialized, every lawyer has to take the basics. What? Most lawyers won't even see you for a initial meeting for 200 bucks... Then I'm not most. I mean you can always get an attorney for free from the state.... but the 2 times I've had to appear in court I paid around 2k in total lawyer fees each time and I was getting a pretty nice personal discount. Yea I bought a high end lawyer but it ended up saving me money/time/hassle in court.
That's only true in criminal courts if you don't have enough money. Also, some of those lawyers are damn good, better than some privately retained lawyers.

You'd imagine they would have done that when it was #1 on all of reddit earlier today for a few hours... it even beat out a cat picture.

Doesn't surprise me one bit and frankly, i won't feel a thing when the whole company goes down. Twitch is far superior in many ways anyway.
Sad to hear that people are missing their paychecks though.

i heard some of this stuff was happening, didnt know so much of it was going on . I hope this kind of shit get sorted out fast...but i guess its the growing pains of esports in general.

It's hard to get legal fees recovery but in some instances it is possible.
Suing is a very expensive and time consuming process and since this is against a company, they probably have money and access to better attorneys etc. I have heard from many of my fellow students (I am taking law at the moment) that their firms don't even consider cases that clients pay under $30k for medium cases because it's not worth it to the firm for its time and man power.
This type of case you really need a lawyer to navigate the mine field with you from beginning to end if you want to be successful so =\ it's hard to get justice. I feel for the scene in this regard.

It's no secret, in the past I have expressed my deep dislike for this individual. However, no one, NO ONE should be scammed like this. Even without the family involved, he is doing this for a living. I have no clue how he keeps up with bills (unless checks are that substantial)... owned needs to be brought to justice, not just for his family, not for all the other streamers being scammed, but out of principal. Too many sites get away with banking off of others successes.

Agreed, sorry for the people hurt but they can switch over to twitch once Own3d is out of business. We must wash away the stain they have left on the industry post-haste!

Shut the fuck up. My god this attitude stinks. This is what people THINK is professional, speaking politely and using proper sentences. You know what is actually professional? Fulfilling your goddamn contractual obligations and running your business properly.
Jeez if all it took to be considered professional was politeness then what a world we'd live in. Hint, it'd be shit. Lying is just as easy to do while being polite as it is while being offensive.
Way to rant about a single sentence taken out of context.. that was the only good thing I could say about Own3d, because they did stay polite in the conversation, while Destiny fell back on the standard blackmail and threats. I said something positive and negative about both parties. While everyone else is just pitchforking it up like argh everything's all black and white etc. I wouldn't trust Own3d with my paycheck, but at the same time it's hard to feel sympathy for Destiny. Why everyone else gets all emotionally invested in this I don't know. Just stick with twitch..

While TB may have used a bit too harsh language... he did make a good point that too often what is called professional is in fact just polite. He didn't quote you with your username or anything, so I wouldn't take it as a direct attack. I think his goal was just to point out that the community has different viewpoints on what professional means.

Which has nothing to do with the conversation we're having here, so how about you shut the fuck up and read the rest of my post.. Not you Eventine but the mob that's got a taste for blood suddenly.

I'd contribute to a kickstarter just to see a company pay for their shitty business.

Dude he has been working a job and not getting paid.. Are you honestly defending not paying an employee because the guy was angry when he didn't get paid?

Because responding just as blood thirsty and with the same exact wording "shut the fuck up" is surely going to get people on your side. I'm all against being politically correct, however it works. And being an assclown because people want to discuss particular portions of everything isn't going to help you. The entire thing is up to be viewed and criticized, whether that means the fact that they didn't pay, or the professionalism, or whatever else people deem appropriate to discuss.

That's not an accusation. Rofl. Why in the fuck are you so against Destiny? I understand the hate for him, I'm not a fan either. But to not pay somebody when they did what they said they were going to do is bullshit. Even if it's your worst enemy, because one day that could be way. It is black and white. He signed a contract, they didn't pay. What the fuck is hard to comprehend about that?

That's fine, but I came back to two pages of people slamming me for a point I didn't even make, and there it almost started up again.. People on the internet, whatever.

You're such a beautiful person.
Sadly I ate chef boyardee for dinner for the last 2 days .. so there will be no contribution coming from my camp.
In all seriousness though, it would be awesome if something like that* came to pass.
