Esports isnt "FUUUUUN", its not something that u can play with your mates after school; "Hey guys, lets play cowboys and indians, nah we did that yesterday, I want to play Esports!".
"Esports" is trying to be a legit business, where people can make a living out of the entertainment.
In order to do so, theres no place for scumbag non-legit companies such as own3d.
Why shouldnt everyone be enlightened about shady business so we, as consumers of the provided entertainment, can do something about it?
I for one am never going to watch another own3d-stream again, will you do your part?

As a person who has worked for a company which has gone through serious financial difficulties, I must say that the best way to piss off your contractors, staff, and suppliers is to consistently pay them late, and not tell them why.
Seriously, everyone leaves like rats on a sinking ship. If someone works for you, pay them. Simple as that.

Fun people ... Fun ... Where's the Fun ??? Yeah, for esports sake let's just ignore a whole bunch of professional gamers (some of whom are in financial troubles) not getting paid for months. It'll really help grow esports if we just ignore these problems and just have some fun instead.
You keep saying that ( professional ) ... i don't think it means what you think it means !

It means someone that does that as their PROFESSION (JOB). I don't think you quite understand what it means. If they are seriously not getting paid (and haven't been getting paid) for doing their JOB, this is very serious.

A professional doesn't go out screaming that he didn't get paid to the community, he solves his problem ... in a number of different ways ( use your imagination ) and focuses on growing the community ... not acting like a pussy.

You're doing your part. Your part of being destructive for the community. People like you are the reason major companies will most likely NEVER invest into eSports, because once something goes wrong you all pull out and boycott.

I am consistently mind blown how this sort of thing just keeps happening in this industry.
This is not a difficult thing for Own3d. They've got contracts signed. Follow the terms of the contract. If they have financial problems which means they can't then they should be letting people streaming on their platform know. If they're just not following the terms then its entirely their fault for screwing up.
Same goes for tournaments that don't pay out. People are largely not evil and looking to burn your house down if payment is late for a good reason. But if you don't say anything then it looks extremely dodgy.
Honestly its really, really not that hard to work with people rather than against them and communicate a bit. I reckon I could manage it quite easily. -_-

This is a foolish, uninformed statement. You can clearly read that he tried solving the problem for months beforehand and was put off and ignored by Own3d. Going public is pretty well a last resort and I doubt Destiny hopes for any personal gain from doing so, instead to inform and bring the issue into the scrutiny of the public eye to ensure they cannot continue to benefit from shady business practices.

I'm glad you can formulate well thought out responses that contribute to the thread.
/sarcasm
The point of the thread is to warn other pros and aspiring streams that Own3d is a shady organization with bad business practices.. If you read the article, which clearly you haven't, you would know that.

Im sad to see this kind of things.. But really, Own3d never had a good layout, or stream player.. i like twitch way more.. so its just a good thing imo for Destiny !

Twitch does everything right that O3D did wrong, and I'm not surprised they're sinking.
Maybe the multitudes of people who usually go "MAN, FUCK DESTINY" whenever his name is mentioned. I for one have no problem with him.

how can we possibly know if own3d did pay any of those people you were talking about? Esports doesnt mean jack unless people can make a living out of it, business first, then the "fun". If workers for any company wouldnt get paid for their work, the system doesnt work.
this moronic, head inside your ass attitude towards companies has to end, its insane to support companies no matter what, companies only want to make a profit, therefore, the way to show a company that you no longer support them, is to take away their profit somehow....
So basically, by not supporting a company that is tricking their employees, im scaring away major companies?
Unless those "MAJOR COMPANIES" youre talking about are shady themselves, I see no reason whatsoever as why they should run away from esports.... youre making absolutely no sense whatsoever.
In fact, the only way to attract "MAJOR COMPANIES" is to sort out the bullshit within esport so people think of esports as a legit business thus a safe investment.
your way of looking at companies as some scared wild animal which we have to approach slowly, carefully with silk-gloves and let them do whatever the hell they wish, makes me so filled with rage that I dont know what to do, im going to go and lift bro, g'day.

It's not because it's difficult for Own3d to follow the contract and pay, it's more likely they're pocketing the money while they can while laughing all the way to the bank with it.
And honestly, you judge each individual post separately, and I found Destiny's one quite well written and logical.

Since I heard of Owned I expected they would own a few people at some point. Would be sad if they were in debts though. US Servers can be quiet bitchy for some outside of NA, so its nice to have an alternative.
|
Unfortunatelly, we had the same problem. We have left Own3D.TV due to failed promises with advertising fill-rate (ads for Poland and so on). We were waiting for it around one or two months, we've been said several times that they areworking on that, and it's coming on Monday (several times I guess, it was "beeing worked out") etc.
The CPM offered for us haven't really worked, but it doesn't matter anymore. I don't have to say that there are payments pending from May, that we won't see most probably. What we have been told is that we can get the money back if we stream on Own3D again - that will not happen.
Twitch is one of the coolest companies we are in touch at the moment.
|
It's a bit of a calculated risk on the part of Own3D in that they can get away with breaching contracts. One of the only ways you're ever going to sort this is with a group action but good luck getting everyone to co-operate on that.
Shame, really. Sounds like a company that started off well but got shittier over time. Will avoid.
