So dumb. What is the point of tweeting a pic of a knife on a plane? What a rebel. -_-

Just a stupid decision. I know he's young but he should act older than a 14 year old kid. (shrug)

SC2 doesn't need bad publicity like this. It's a shame that they go above and beyond to correlate violence in video games/movies and try to say it has an impact on the behavior in the kinds of atrocities like in the elementary school tragedy over in Newtown. Quite a stretch of the imagination to think that the correlation not only puts the blame on FPS games (or any game for that matter), but to throw SC2 under that bus also doesn't follow logically. Apparently he played some SC2 (that Newtown murderer did that is), because playing an RTS in space somehow inspires people to do stupid things. Sad stuff. Even if a correlation existed which would be a stretch, correlation isn't equal to causation. I would hope that there isn't a big enough sample size of atrocities to get a statistically significant read on this, but if there were I wouldn't be surprised if this whole kind of argument was thrown out the window.

Anyhow sorry if I side-stepped the direct issue at hand a bit, but I think these issues deserved to be mentioned as an aside in relation to this situation here with Stephano. Hopefully people don't begin to draw a negative image of SC2 and/or e-sports from overblown trivial matters like this. Professional gamers need to step up their game in defending the image of gaming, and improving their mannerism to continue to promote/grow e-sports. I think overall a job has been well done, and I am not trying to imply that Stephano failed in this regard in absolute terms. I think poor judgment was demonstrated and it was a foolish error on Stephanos' to post the picture on Twitter. I also think it is unfair to butcher him for a relatively trivial mistake in the grand scheme, but there's no need to overstate it and aim to put a negative perception/connotation to the game that he plays as well. (By overstating, I mean I think the media may have done this but I did not read the article so I cannot be sure. I just assume some of the stuff mentioned in this thread was accurate.) I am thinking people that encounter the article will not assume negatively of Stephano or SC2 overall if/when they do some of their own research on what he and e-sports in a greater sense truly entail. Hopefully the questionable situation can turn into a trigger for spreading the exposure of e-sports by making people curious to examine it (even by a flawed pretense) rather than give it a negative perception by default without further examination (I know I am a bit optimistic. heh.)

Please note: I made a few assumptions of what the article contained based on the context ITT, I didn't actually read the article since it wasn't available in English. Figured it was worth mentioning in case the tone of my post was somehow out of line, it seems to be accurate though.

lol thats not being a rebel thats just being stupid especially with the terrorism that has happened via planes in the past decade. People are mega sensitive to this kind of thing assuming that airplanes are weapons free of any kind. They won't read his tweet and say "thank god hes showing the air lines that they need to step up their security!". Most people are going to say wtf is someone bragging about having gotten a knife on the plane whether its accidental or on purpose. If its accidental keep it to yourself, no need to tell thousands of people.
JD, need I say more? :D

"No smart move"
Ilyes Satouris prank got Dreamhack CEO, Robert Ohlén, to tweet a message to "Stephano": "No smart move young Padawan, to photograph yourself with a weapon on board an aircraft and post it on Twitter " .
"It shows, Satouri replied," how innocent and harmless I am (and also what an idiot I can be sometimes). "

Star armed with knife on airplane - tweeted picture proof

The French e-sport superstar Stephano, 19, knows how to make headlines.
The other day he brought a knife on an airplane - and tweeted about it.

Ilyes Satouri is one of Europe's most successful StarCraft players, but also one of the most controversial. During last year's Dreamhack Summer Satouri visited the night club Sliver in Jönköping where he got so intoxicated he had to be taken care of by police. This October the French's team, Evil Geniuses, decided to suspend him for a month. The reason to this was that he had, on air, been joking about sex with minors.
-- I honestly want to apologize to all of my fans, my teammates, Evil Geniuses and their sponsors for my comments. They were unsensitive, inappropriate and way over the line. The serious consequences these have had for me is justified. I take full responsibility for my mistakes and I will be more careful in the future, said Satouri.

Tweeted picture of knife
That carefulness lasted barely three months. The other day Stephano left France for StarCraft-blessed South Korea. On the airplane Satouri visited the toilet and took a picture of the knife he had brought with his hand luggage. The frenchman posted the picture on Twitter and wrote: "I managed to fly armed with a knife. I didn't even try to do it, so I can just imagine how easy it would be for a Bad Guy to do it." The tweet has since then been deleted but in a later post the frenchman explains that it was never his intention to carry a weapon on board. "I have to point out that the knife was in my hand luggage by mistake, haha".

Not a smart move
Ilyes Satouris venture made the CEO of Dreamhack, Robert Ohlén, tweet a greeting to Stephano: "Not a smart move young padawan, to photo yourself with a weapon on an airplane and post it on Twitter."

"It shows", Satouri replied, "how innocent and harmless I am (and also what an idiot I can be from time to time)".
