An inside look at professional gaming, Die Noobs follows two gamer Noobs through a series of training camps with Celebrities, Rockstars, Athletes, and Video Game Icons from around the globe leading up to a climactic tournament finale that will change a whole world’s life.
Excited for this, so far the bar hasn't been raised all that high as far as starcraft documentaries go. We've been waiting almost two years for some of them.
For reference - here is the plot synopsis taken from the launch site:
Two dudes embark on a sweet journey to become the most powerful pro gamers of all time.
If Rocky and The Office and Reddit made love, the baby would be called Die Noobs. That would be his name. He would be a champion. Experience the transformation two stud bears undertake as they attempt to win a professional Starcraft 2 tournament. Zack and Jason begin as casual n00bs, but their journey through a powerful training camp, taught by some of the worlds best SC2 players and iconic celebrities, will make them uber. Fragging small fry and training leads up to a climactic finale that will rip your head off and change a whole world’s life. Along the way they discover a gaming ecosystem and community bigger and cooler than anything you could ever imagine. An inside look into one of the worlds fastest growing professional sports. Die Noobs will pwn your heart.

This is a must see. I expect it to be heart pounding drama, amazing action sequences and a balanced and fair representation of the Esports world. I intend to watch this movie as soon as it hits australia

We planned on using this thread as a running diary and exclusive launch area for all of our PR / trailers / events etc. Wooooo

Filming/Production will be done by late fall 2013 and we hope to do private screenings starting in December. We plan on a wide release (film festivals etc) by Jan/Feb. As we get closer to wrapping up production we will keep everyone updated. In the interim, we will be releasing webisodes etc
It would be awesome if it was two Korean 15 year old kids who were camera shy and awesomely awkward in the interviews. Maybe a scene where they were pressured into drinking beer underage and then a police investigation into child labor laws.

Why is everyone always trying to introduce esports to your mum? I think a bit of coolness and self critical humour never hurt anyone. Yes, your mum might not approve, but she doesn't really need to see this (whatever it is).

It's a funny idea, but in the unlikelihood this is not a joke, more than five minutes of this kind of humor would be tedious as hell to actually watch.

hey dude - appreciate your feedback. definitely won't disappoint you. there are two primary focus areas for the documentary:
1. Give the world an inside look into the SC2 pro gaming scene and community (and show how awesome it is) 2. Party like a motherfucker and kill noobs while having a lot of fun and changing lives.

You're all getting trolled. There's no way this is legit because no one would ever sponsor a production like this since the target audience is so small.

Why not just post all these things that you are claiming as proof instead of making promises to email things to people?
You're all getting trolled so hard. All these "releases" were created today and the trailer was probably created in moviemaker in under 5 minutes with a random game from a VOD. If you want anyone to take you seriously with a title and plot like that, have this award winning director post on his twitter or something that he's working on this production or no one is going to take you seriously.

Director's IMDb entry and a 2010 interview which includes some discussion of his background, past projects and future goals.
(note that he did photography & editing - not directing - for the Emmy nominated local TV piece that the "Emmy Nominee" and and "Murrow Award Winner" tags in the Die Noobs! teaser refer to)

I agree this would be sweet if it were an eSports Spinal Tap, but none of this seems legit. The trailer with nothing more than words and 10 seconds of replays definitely illustrated this.

good question - as hardcore SC2 gamers we definitely want to show some epic CPM and fast paced games - would like to educate the audience a bit on strategy like 4gate etc but do it in a fun "rocky/eye of the tiger" type way
so not sure of the exact percent, but there will be a fair amount of it!

That's good to hear. I'm sure you're aware most of the similar products (though I'm not sure if there's really been any movies quite like this) focus almost exclusively on the outside-the-game aspects and only gloss over the game in layman's terms aimed at the understanding of some middle aged conservative who can barely operate a PC. :/

This will either be very very interesting or an epic face palm. Really a lot of it in my opinion won't depend on 'do they get good and make it' but...can I stand watching these guys for a long period of time.
Any film/documentary is only as watchable as your cast allows it to be and the director cuts them to be. So all the hype aside and all the wooing (you should really cut down on that a tad when posting), I'd love to see it turn out well. Best of luck.
this doesn't look entertaining or interesting in any way, shape or form, the sad thing is that a well-made documentary about the pro-gaming scene would be fascinating, it's definitely something someone should do, this just takes the emphasis off the pro players and puts it on two goons who are trying too hard to be funny, what a waste

We are doing various "training" camps with pro athletes, celebs and gamers from around the globe through August. This fall we are going to enter some TBA tournaments.
Our goal is to wrap up everything and get the film distributed/released by Q1 2014.
In the meantime, we are going to keep this thread updated with content including exclusive web clips, trailers etc.
I especially like how nothing shown so far has anything to do with pro gaming at all. Still can only hope it's a parody, but you're pretty pro at dodging the self promotion rules at least, I'll give you that.

Still can't tell if this is an epic troll or something real. Leaning towards the first due to the seemingly random "updates" of filming but no content. It's been like 2 years boys...
I can confirm this movie will be the best esports movie ever. I was at the filming this past Saturday. You can see me in one of the photos drawing on the white boards (teaching the noobs how to be pros of course). We also did some drinking + SC2 training. Very excited to see how the film comes together!
The problem is that he's so genuinely douchey. A spoiled rich kid whose doctor daddy paid for every failed venture he's been involved in (google sotaventure for an example). You should have seen the house he rented in Arizona when he was pretending to be a big deal. His arrogance is so strong (and real) that there's no way that the movie will be "so bad it's hilarious." It will just be bad and annoying.
Do you guys really think it's honest to say that your director is "Emmy Award Nominated"? He was basically an assistant on short news segment that received a nomination for a LOCAL Emmy Award (something that nearly anyone who applies can be nominated for).

I literally can (and should) fault a guy for "spicing up" his credentials. He wasn't nominated for an Emmy. His news station applied and got a nomination for a "Upper Midwest Emmy". It's intentionally deceiving and gamers should be irritated by it. It's a shameful attempt create credibility where none exists. I'm sure the director uses his "Emmy nomination" to get guests to appear in the movie and probably for funding too.

Agreed, the "emmy nominated director" bit is definitely misleading. It's a half truth at best. That being said, I'm not saying that this means the movie will be bad and I'll probably watch it whenever it comes out providing that it doesn't cost anything but from what I've seen so far it's not looking promising.
