And before anyone says anything, yes, Stephano made those comments at work. His job is to play StarCraft. And, if I may add, he is presumably payed a lot of money to do so. You can say it was between friends all you want, when you are on the clock there are things you just can't do, even when around friends. Making casual jokes about rape, especially the rape of a minor, is one of them. Frankly, Stephano is lucky he is so hard to replace for EG. In "the real world" he'd be out of a job.

[–]brucemo 4 points 2 hours ago (4|0) "I might only be interested in milfs and kids now" The difference is not huge, but the second one is less coherent. I mean, let's step away from point scoring thing and ask what he really truly meant by that. I have no idea, personally. I can't imagine saying that in any context, regardless of what was going on in my brain. I don't know if there is previous conversation between these two people that makes sense out of that. Do you think he is expressing real sexual interest in children and attractive 30-something women? Also, is there more context to this than just those two screen shots? Because the first one the other guy is talking about sex, but he never says that. That cuts both ways though, because I don't know if there is previous conversation between these two people that would so rapidly lead the second guy to conclude that it's about sex. I can't conclude from this what he's thinking, if anything. there are a lot of interesting comments that discuss the more philosophical side of the debate on a reddit thread here if anyone is interested http://www.reddit.com/r/antisrs/comments/11esu2/srs_coordinated_attack_on_sponsors_of_a_starcraft/

Bling clearly thought it wasnt a joke, as he was trying to clarify what he said, and also in a way (this is just my interpretation) it almost sounds like stephano banged some chick and then realized after that she was underage, was surprised about it and then told someone. As for the whole milf thing, im sure there is another story about him banging an older women. They could both be lies (young men lie about having sex all the time) but i would hardly consider them jokes. I speak both french and english and aside from the abuse being just slightly the wrong word i dont see how much could be lost in translation in terms of a joke. IF it was about someone much younger than that, sure i would beleive it was a joke like a 10 year old or 5 year old, a really sick joke, but a joke none the less. When i was 18 i went out with someone that was 15 ( a year difference on both sides from this situation) and although this situation with stephano is twisted and possibly illegal i dont think its too farfetched of a thing to happen.

I'm French Canadian. And to me it sounded like maybe he might have meant milfs with kids? Honestly, I don't know. And honestly, it's none of my business. If an 18yr old is consenting with a 15yr old, and they're both happier, no one should give a damn.

EG made the right call (maybe they even punished him less than he deserves), Stephano should grow up and work on his sense of humour or sexual preferences, because in both cases it's messed up... The original post on SRS on Reddit links directly to the emails/contact information for multiple EG sponsors. Of course there was pressure from them. Not to say anyone should have been emailing sponsors, or that SRS should even exist, but that's what happened. EG would have done something about it even if people didnt email the sponsors. It's just dumb to think otherwise. So you can't say how much of this decision is because of sponsors pressuring EG or just EG being professional. I'm sorry but I can't be persuaded by an argument from "it's dumb to think otherwise." He said something on battle.net, and it showed up on bling's (Dignitas) stream. I don't see why EG would create a problem if SRS didn't go to the sponsors with one. Because people have been unhappy with it. It's called PR. Google it. If by people you mean reddit who constantly go on self styled crusades to make themselves feel important. That this sort of thing can from a site known for posting jail bait and borderline illegal images of minors I consider it close to the best example of hypocrisy I have seen in a long time. Reddit is hardly known for jailbait (as in "famous for"). I just can't imagine Obama doing an AMA on a site like that lol. Cane, it was the #1 result on Google when you searched for "reddit". I don't care, it made sense to me. There aren't a lot of places for 15 year olds to get porn of people like them instead of dirty worn out milfs. At least I can see that being a valid excuse for its existence...

If you said that on reddit.com/r/starcraft your post would be downvoted to oblivion and responded to by upvoted posts saying things like "what's wrong with teenagers having sex with each other?" and "the problem is that people email the sponsors." It's pretty disgusting.

If I said, "I killed a man in Reno just to watch him die", would that be considered horribly shocking, or would people realize that I didn't mean it seriously? Se how much worse it is? A man can defend himself, but a kid can't even live on his/her own yet.

The actual act (if he's guilty of it) should be dealt with differently than a joke. But yes, that might be why he's only suspended? Try to make that joke at work. Make sure your boss hears about it. Tell me how it went. And I think you misinterpret his job. Attracting viewers is a means, not an end. His job is to be a representative for his team's sponsors. To do that effectively he needs to attract eyeballs, yes, but ultimately if he makes comments that a brand that sponsors him does not want associated with them then he's not doing his job properly. That's the reality of having sponsors like that. Everything you say anywhere that isn't 100% private has to be said under the assumption that the whole world will see it. Maybe it's not fair, but it's a reality that western progamers seem to not fully grasp. Sponsors don't throw money at e-sports to be benevolent, they sponsor players/teams because they want those players/teams to create a positive image for their brands. If progamers aren't willing to watch what they say a bit it's going to make it harder to attract sponsors. With that comment Stephano failed his sponsors. Anything that makes Stephano look bad makes his sponsors look bad (by the same logic that companies operate under to dish out sponsorship) and is just, well, bad.
