Was going to post this to the single player forum, but apparently it doesn't exist anymore!
I was thinking the other day about maybe trying to get all the achievements in SC2, but the custom game and co-operative achievements seems so extremely boring to get.
Is there a strat that works 100% of the time? Any other good tips on how to get these fast?

Cooperative vs. AI is possible within a party. So chose someone, who is reliable and determined and grind those achievements with him or her.
The most common openings vs. AI are cannon rushes and off rax reapers. Make familiar with all the maps first to avoid nasty surprises. Zerg seems to be inferior against insane AIs. You could experiment with 6pool/7pool, speedling-rush or roach-rush.

z you could get 20 drones, get +1 attack/speed, 2 hatches and mass speedlings and take down both medium/hard ai easily if you get a expo. pretty much all you want is 200gas then just mass up speedlings with 2 queens, really simple

When I last did co-op vs ai the most common strats were cannon rush, proxy rax bunkers, and 7 pool (with a drone sent at beginning to make extractor at their base, causes their workers to attack it). If these didn't kill the person right off the bat people would transition to either air (voidrays mutas banshees) or something like reapers and speedlings. These units work because the ai works in such a way that if you attack their base while they're not there, they will pull back all of their forces to defend, at which point you can exit with your high mobility units. This allows you to freely expand and do whatever to get more air until all of their buildings are dead or until you have enough stuff to flat out destroy their army.
As for custom games, rushing is also the best strategy, with the biggest maps thumbed down. It's also best if you have a continuous supply of new partners (not solo queue) so that your team mmr will go down and the games will be faster. 1v1 is just get really good at cheesing. Even if you only win 1/3rd of your games, the games will be so much faster that it's more efficient in the long run. Your mmr will also go down if you have a poor winrate so you'll have a better chance of your cheeses working.

Unless they patched it when I did it in 2010, as protoss/terran you can start a pylon/depot in their main causing them to pull most of their workers, then cancel moments before it dies and repeat -- proxy 2 gating/2 raxing simultaneously with a second worker outside their main. For zerg, just repeatedly extractor steal, cancel, repeat while following up with a speedless 8 pool. The protoss AI has a chance to randomly own the zerg build.
On some maps where they share mains, this strategy isn't possible as both computers will pull workers and it'll become unmanageable. Alternative is to mass blink stalkers/reapers/speedlings on one base, waiting for them to move out on the map when you run into their main and begin picking off buildings.

When I did this (May 2011) I played 1v1 vs insane AI on steppes and cannon rushed (forge+pylon below ramp, then some cannons on hi ground), win in 3 minutes It worked only on Insane iirc, because others didn't pull workers or sth.
AI might have changed since that time.

There are also hacks to do this, known as external trainers. They can essentialy give you 100k minerals and gas by the push of a button, or other even better things. But I don't recomand using such things. It won't get you banned but it's a false way to get these achievements.
The replies so far in this thread seem good enough.

Thanks, seems like a lot of good advice here!
Why won't Blizzard ban you for using those cheats? Since it's only against bots?

Yes, I've seen it many times, that the AI has a superior army in the mid-game, but gets tricked repeatedly against a bunch of reapers.
Generally against insane AI, you need to kill them quick AND not let it expand. Remember: it earns 40% more income. With expansions it becomes stupidly over-powered.
Keep in mind, that cannon rushes can fail, when you build the pylon too close to their base. Build the pylon below the main plateau. On some maps, the distance to the enemy main building will be so high, that it will remain a risky strategy. The AIs will also try to break free around the 10 minutes mark with a massive amount of tier 2 units, so don't stop building the cannons. But the AI is also generally too dumb to see your probe as a threat, when it doesn't attack.
Insane achievements also trigger the lesser achievements.
Of course, air units or reaper cheese belong to the safest transitions, but if you are clearly superior, you can transition into standard armies, too, and defeat the AI in the field.

Is there a strat that works 100% of the time? Any other good tips on how to get these fast? custom game achievements are easy enough to get by yourself. the way to do it is play random first at the hardest difficulty required. if you get a win playing insane ai, it will also count for very hard, hard, and medium. also, if you play random (and suppose you rolled terran), it would count as a random and terran win.
this is similar to how you would play the outmatched games; just play one 1v2 insane and then one 1v4 very hard, and you would get every single achievement as a win in an insane 1v2 ai game will count for 1v2 in very hard, hard and medium, and a win in 1v4 very hard will count for 1v3 very hard, 1v4 and 1v3 hard, and 1v4 and 1v3 medium.
co-op can be done the same way as the custom vs ai games, if people still play co-op. i'm not sure if interest has changed or if there's just a lack of recreational players, but co-op games are much harder to find compared to when sc2 first came out. the co-op thread in the single player forum mentioned the channel "tl coop" for tl members looking to grind co-op games, but nobody was ever in there.

Who cares about these things? Are there really people who are so bored to play games vs Medium AI to get some Achievements?

Most people ITT are miss informed. There used to be a thread couldn't find it but it had the best strat for each race.
Basically. Build the harvest puller in AI base. Pylon for toss. Extractor for zerg. Depo for terran. Cancel and rebuild as needed.
With z "5 pool" since you need one drone for the extractor. Don't fight in mineral line. If ai is zerg use the extractor drone to make a spine after lings arrive. If you know ai is zerg, in 1v1 custom. You can spine rush with great success, but don't remember what pool it was a long time ago for me. You should afford 3 spines around when your drones arrive.
With terran, the one I found the hardest. 2 rax proxy bunker rush. Don't remember how many scvs you build or times to send, sry...
With toss. 2 gate, don't remember exact timings here either...
Noobs go reapers, cannons and random crap. However it is much slower and with cannons you cannot help your ally incase he has problems. With the strats I listed you can actually win the game to fast. If you do it doesn't count towards the achieve. I think the time limit is 5 minutes but unsure about this to.
You should try to find the old thread but in case you cannot this should be good enough to find the timings yourself.
With these strats I got 15 wins in a row 2v2 and 3v3 with almost no trouble. Made 7 to fast wins in 757 games coop but then I waited in a lot of games after I found out it didn't count.
You will get so sick of it before you have 750 coop wins, but at least you get some micro and rush practice ^^
GL, but it won't be much fun, my fellow achievement whore!!

They are undetectable towards their anti-cheat software called ''Warden''. If a player who haxed in those custom games sent their replay to Blizz and said ''Hey look I got 10k minerals instantly'' then they would ban it, but if nothing is said the player won't get banned.

Co-op is fucking easy if you know how: just you 2 (or 3) pull all workers at start and ALL attack one ai at once with worker. He wont attack back because he's outnumbered so much. after killing all workers from the first go to the next one. Done. Evry game will take like ~10 mins. To kill AI solo just canonrush from lowground on agria valley + Show Spoiler + Just pick terran or toss as oponent.

I agree, CO-OP is the way to go.

How do you do the insane 1v2 these days? I tried following some stuff online, but AI has gotten better

I haven't done it lately, but I'd suggest grabbing a map with islands and camping up on them while building a unkillable airforce.
Choosing the 4v4 map Lava Flow, doing the following: 1. Choose terran. 2. Put 5 scvs into your CC and lift off fly to the closest island 3. Move your 6. worker towards the other island. 4. Take the two bases on your island and tech towards Battlecruisers with a ring of turrets. 5. At some point while taking your island you should try and build a CC with the worker you left behind and floating it towards the other island, so you're not restricted to only 4 gasses for mass BC (if this fails, get a medivac and fly some scvs over there!) 6. I know this strategy works in the mass insane AI FFA, but probably harder to pull off against 2 direct enemies. Also I don't know what race they should be, maybe 2xprotoss or 2xzerg would be the easiest.
|
I doubt, that you would be able to clear the map against two over-powered insane AI opponents with BCs. The AI will constantly throw troops at you and adjusts its unit compositions while you try to curb its growth. Void Rays, Corruptors, HSMs and Vikings will hurt you a lot.

Well, they could easily find such things, if they would be looking for it.
