Honestly I believe the problem with Alive is not that he has "no personality" but rather the fact that he plays T, you have to consider that the dominant race over the course of those 2 years of starcraft was indeed terran with more than half the gold medals and several periods of 1-3 months when T was practically unbeatable at a pro level.
You have so many korean terrans over these 2 years that have results better or similar to Alive ( MVP, MMA, MKP, Nada, Jjakji, Teja, Polt... the list goes fucking on )
Now lets look at the korean protosses that would have been on the same level with Squirtle in terms of results if he was the one to win that IPL... MC, Hero, recently Seed, pretty much it. Wonder why people were cheering for Squirtle ?

Its the same thing happening with Z recently, a lot of "good" zergs are starting to go unnoticed because zergs are winning so much in the last few months.

You bring up a good example in Jjakji. I think it's fair to say only the casual fanbase knew next to nothing about him going up into that GSL Finals. IIRC, the LR thread going in was mostly pro-Leenock and after the matches everyone was pretty pumped after seeing some amazing games. Jjakji won some fans not by showing his personality through any fancy interviews, but through his play. The problem with Alive is that both his interviews and his play is uninspired. I still can't remember him doing anything really unique during the period you're referring to as he seemed to be just refining borrowed strats.

Uninspired is probably the wrong word to use. Playing a solid style and winning with it isn't uninspired. It's just not especially innovative. Innovation for the sake of innovation may win you fans, but more often than not it loses you games (see pretty much every "creative" player of the past year, with a couple of exceptions).

aLive has used some nonstandard builds here and there. I remember a few wacky 1-1-1's and ghost rushes that he used to do all the time on Crossfire in particular. While he hasn't been the most creative he isn't "uninspired", thats for sure.

give parting 10 years and stop the time for jeadong under the mean time and then we will see what happens, why is every1 saying its obvious that bw pros will not pwn in sc2 after 6 months of practise when sc2 pros has been playing for 2 years?well then why don't we just say that the other way around aswell? which has an even bigger cap

Maybe because most of current SC2 pros were already BW pros for years? I really know very little about SC2 pro-scene, but I've read somewhere the majority of GSL players were unsuccessful BW pros.

I know MC used to be called flounder in BW xD

Isn't Parting super-young?

(Just checked, he's 17 atm. I doubt he was a BW pro.)

Alot people played BW, which is expected since the short duration of SC2. You really can't expect people to start play game after SC2 come out, and BW is the natural choice. However most of them did not play BW long enough at high level to really stand out.

Nestea, MMA, TheSTC, GanZi, SuperNoVa, FD, Tester can be said to be B Teamers
A couple more such as ForGG were mid tier
Then you get BoxeR, NaDa, July, Rainbow

Alot more (which include MC, MKP, HerO, PuMa, Genius, LosirA, Puzzle, Ryung etc) spent some time in BW pro team but too short to amount to anything

Was ForGG really mid-tier? He did win the Arena MSL in 2008, which was a huge accomplishment, beating Flash and Jaedong both when they were dominant.

Which means he was top-tier at one point. Just because it was four years ago doesn't mean he lacks to talent to repeat. Its the same thing with hockey fans.. some people are just obsessed and enamoured with the immediate past and present results. Don't count out the guys who have been there. They have the experience and can easily do it again.

I'm not saying they don't have the talent. I'm saying they may lack the confidence, or the form, or the fitness, or whatever. ForGG seems to be rather past his prime, IMO. I hope he shows otherwise, though.

A lot of current KeSPA pros are about that age. BaBy most notably.

I think when he talks about unsuccessful BW pros, he means some guy who's aiming to become a BW pro, which is the case for a lot of SC2 players. I'm pretty sure most of them had some time practising to get their BW licenses and spent time in popular BW clans. When they were unsuccessful, they moved on to SC2 to try their luck.

That's probably how a lot of these younger players (KeSPA and non-KeSPA) know each other.

Makes me so sad to see aLive himself and a lot of people here think of him as the invisi-terranT_T... Even though he has an unassuming, quiet, and generally unnresponsive personality on stage, in the interviews I've seen of him he has an endearing modesty and he puts so much thought and effort into making entertaining games and winning. Since he started to appear in code S last fall, his variety of play amazed me and I hoped he would get a championship, but it never came. His build choice has been a little iffy lately, but he's a top-5 terran for sure, and should most definitely get more credit than what most people are seeming to give him.
