So you have another metric but wins in the global starcraft league? You have a "good-o-meter" at home with your own top list? He's ro8 GSL so he's top 8.
It's such a pity SC2 is such a young sport that being bad at the game but good at doing interviews make teams more likely to pick you up than a player that's sick good at the game but bad at interviews.

Two decent runs in Code S doesn't make you a top 8 player.... Inca made it to the finals for fuck sake.

And it's not that he is just bad at interviews... its his personality as a whole. He has a terrible reputation in Korea.

Top 8 = top 8. If you win the world championship in football, you're considered the best until the next championship. I don't see how starcraft is different.

Take a look at Wayne Rooney when it comes to terrible PR. Imo conduct shouldn't matter as much as results and skill when it comes to sports. That's just what I think though. I'm sure there are tonnes of people who would prefer the American wrestling approach rather than a legitimate sport.

Starcraft is not football. and GSL isn't the only league(Though I agree it holds the most weight). In starcraft you can't just look at one or two tournies and proclaim someone is the best. That's fucked up. Not to mention his runs haven't even been THAT great. Apart from playing a couple of Protoss(Lol PvP) he managed to dodge most big names and lost to the ones he ran into...

Again I think Naniwa is a good player. But he is not top 8 in the world. No chance in hell.

Football was an example. This holds true for every sport I've heard of. He's top 8 twice in a row.
Please do tell me where you rank him and how you placed him there and what metric you use, as tournament results are completely irrelevant to you.

How can you be top 8 in the world if you can't beat Zerg?

What Protoss can convincingly beat Zerg?
Oh come on, bringing balance into it? Naniwa is bad against Zergs compared to his othermatchups, he's been kicking ass in Code S, but he's come to Europe and been knocked out of multiple tournaments (off the top of my head Dreamhack, WCS Sweden, TSL4) by European Zergs.
That alone makes calling him Top 8 in the world a stretch. He's a fantastic player, top 2 foreigner with Stephano, but you can't take GSL results completely in isolation when ranking players, thats just absurd.

nani bad against zerg? is that why he beat nestea and drg at mlg providence?

That was way before the recent zerg buffs. Naniwa simply has not been able to adapt to the new significantly more powerful zerg

He was knocked out in a couple of tournaments by mediocre zergs before the patch.

naniwa one of the top 8 players in the world...? i can't shake the feeling that that statement is purely for trolling purposes so i'm hesitant to get involved haha but that's pretty silly

Hmmm, interesting.. I thought Quantic was the team that fit him the best. It must surely be a swap to a korean team, otherwise, what is the point?

You got it backwards, why is the point of leaving a foreign team to go to a korean team ? no salary and no foreign tournaments. Makes no sense.

I don't believe he fits liquid style. Instead, it would be hilarious to see him side by side with IdrA! However, good luck for the future!

First of all.. PR or no PR, Quantic didn't have a public disaster with Naniwa, he didn't say something absolutely terrible in a televised game during his time with Quantic (I haven't watched his stream too much so maybe I missed something). There are no reports of any of the Startale guys having a problem with him. Quantic didn't sound harsh at all in his release. When a person does something terrible the team is supposed to condemn it and not just say that "Oh he didn't want to be with us anymore so we let him go". The fact that they did say that means yes there might have been some trouble but nothing horrendous in his relation with Quantic management (or maybe they are telling the truth plain and simple, hard to believe I know but not impossible).

I don't know why people can't let go of things he did when he was a teen. I agree he might not be the most amicable character in the SC2 scene but he is not that terrible and definitely doesn't deserve titles like "scumbag" by someone who doesn't know him personally and hasn't been wronged by him in any way.

I wish him all the best in his future SC2 and personal endeavors.

You mean like Dignitas, a team which is well known for rehiring a former player - Sjow? Would like to see this be true.

Naniwa top8 best players in the world ? What a joke. In the protoss race alone I can already list 8 players that are better than him : MC, Seed, PartinG, Squirtle, Alicia, Puzzle, Genius, HerO. I could name a few more.

A forum is a place for discussion; an argument is a form of discussion.

A forum is a place for discussion in the correct thread.

Arguing about his skill which is completely opinion is not the topic of this thread.

An argument is also not a proper form of discussion.

An argument is absolutely a proper form of discussion. A debate is an argument, people trying to prove their point, discussing, in detail, their points in order to try to sway others.

Hi, you must be new to this forum seeing as arguments on this forum are never debates. Arguments are not debates.

The thing is:

you cant just buy good players. you need to advertise them. you cant do that with naniwa. you will always have problems with him and your sponsors wont be amused about his behaviour.

maye that wasnt what you were talking about.

its not:
eg, liquid, any korean team, mym, mtw, empire, dignitas, type, aTn, ESC, quantic, fnatic, etc.
what team he could join:
root (doesnt have the money but they are "bad mannered" like him.
i was going to say complexity but he left that team as well. i dont see any team wanting him right now.
maybe he makes a team with major... but i dont think major likes him either

I wasn't referring to anything but I agree that Naniwa has nowhere to go.

Personally, I think Naniwa is a lot better than Alicia.

Well, all of those has not proven to be better then Naniwa in GSL. I'd say he is top 5 protoss, I think the most stable all-round protosses are Squirtle and MC, PartinG and Alicia best against terran.

The sponsors care about both and they're the one paying for the players. Why do you think incontrol and idra still play for EG? They make more money for the sponsors than most Code S players do.

People need to stop using Alicia and Seed to support this particular argument. A month and half ago, it wouldn't have even crossed your mind to say they are better but since they've had a little run of success, all of sudden they are put into "best players in the world' status??

Oh and I would say probably not Seed, not Puzzle and not Genius/HerO. But thats just a personal opinion, right? (Although I definitely agree with him not being top8).
