LG-IM is the first ever SC2 team to own a GSL champion for all three races.
On July 27th at 7:10pm at Busan Haeundae, on a special stage for the 2012 Monsieur J GSL Season 3 Code S finals, the "Illusion Toss" LG-IM_Seed overcame the Protoss president SK.MC with a 4:1 victory. Up until now, LG-IM had been to the GSL finals for a total of nine times, and had given birth to 4x GSL winner Mvp and 3x GSL winner NesTea, for a total of 7 Gold and 2 Silver trophies. Within these finals there was even a LG-IM team kill finals. Even though IM was completely dominating the GSL with Mvp and NesTea, IM was still lacking in the Protoss area. Not a single Protoss player on the IM team was able to achieve the necessary results for IM, and thus, was a very disappointing factor. That was, until IM_Seed got up to the finals and kicked up IM's number to 10, won the finals, and set an entirely new record. With Seed's championship, LG-IM now owns 8 GSL trophies, has a championship for each of the races, Terran, Zerg, and Protoss, and was the first ever SC2 professional team to accomplish this feat.
LG-IM's coach, Kang Dong Hoon stated that "I am very glad our team was the first ever team to achieve the feature of having a player with a GSL championship for all three races, but the fact that we have another champion besides Mvp and NesTea is a much bigger joy. With our three GSL champions, and a plethora of other talented players on our roster, we will work hard to finally recapture the GSTL.

Great news for IM. Will certainly make the sponsors happy. Wonder if there will be any roster changes for the next season(s)/GSTL.

LG sponsor team IM. Then IMMVP wins GSL and now Seed wins GSL. Lucky timing by LG, they sure got quite a bit out of the sponsorship.

Actually if you look at it, had Mvp not made that one tiny mistake on Dual Sight he would have 100% won in the finals against Jjakji.
That was the hardest defeat for me to swallow I think, that one game Leenock beat him in probably cost him $40k.
(P.S: If you didn't see that series, definitely check it out, game two Leenock vs Mvp was absolutely insane ).

I think it goes both ways. Remember this LG sponsorship is HUGE and allowed the players to get salaries. Not saying the players play for the money but it does make the team a lot more stable. The team atmosphere is probably not great if you have some of your best players leaving for foreign teams. Having good sponsors means you can just focus on the game and everything else will take care of itself.

True. But so many games are like this. Happy was beating MMA in their semi-final as well until he got anxious and got out of position. Squirtle should have won last GSL after defending that first pressure but got his stalkers caught. Hell, MVP should have lost to Ryung in Ro32 last season but Ryung pulled back his forces due to 1 banshee and allowed MVP to make a BC switch.
|
So happy for IM loved them since the start of this game and seeing Nestea and MVP and now a solid toss aswelll gotta love it

Winners format is incredibly fickle. 1 player on fire can carry the whole team. And besides GSTL, IM has been doing well in IPL TAC (probably second to GSTL as the second largest team tournament). They won the first, didn't play the second and is in Grand Finals of the third. If GSTL was more PL format with round robin and 1 map per player with ace, I am sure IM would be doing better.

truth. If you don't want results of something like GSL spoiled, don't get on a major sc2 reporting page. If I don't want the results of a major sporting event spoiled, I don't get on espn or look at my phone, so... grow up about spoilers thanks.

"LG-IM Status: Complete"

I believe that's the point -- because it doesn't say [SPOILERS] people click on it and get spoiled instantly. Not exactly by the title but by the content because the title is so subtle.
|
We should half count MC as well, since SK and IM are all buddy buddy :D What a sickass medal count. Kind of funny though how they always underperform in team leagues, but hey, maybe the IM coach's policy of sending out lesser known players is paying off in their development.
|
Grtz to Seed. I was a huge fanboy of IM but the recent GSTL performances cooled it down a bit. I hope next season MC/MVP/Nestea can be true aces. With Losira/Seed as awesome back-ups.
|
MVP such a boss. pro shorts are pro.
|
As far as spoilers: This happens EVERY major event. Every single one. Someone "forgot" or "doesn't care" or "doesn't think" about their title and implies something with it. Even worse, people decide to come to TL the day after the major event and get all up in arms about it.
Just stop it.

Why would you risk going past the front page spoiler option, into the forums before watching the finals? You took a risk, and it got spoiled. Next time, when you wake up watch the finals before you do anything else. Pretty simple.

Mmh. Number of first-place finishes per team follows.
LG-IM : 8

That scenario still makes it his fault though.

Then that's the definition if it being the coaches fault. The coach is supposed to know better and make the decisions that are best for the team, not listen to each members wish to play. If they get a new coach or the coach grows some balls and does his job then they will be good.

I ain't even mad but the thread name did spoiler it for me because I access TL via stream page, scroll down to tournaments, then find the tournament and click the spoil-free to see who won match by match but this thread name caught my eye and instantly told me who won. I wanted Seed to win so yeah I aint even mad.

Pretty sure the definition of being a great coach is getting the best sponsors, which IM seems to be far and away the best at with korean SC2 teams

I dont know how any team can beat LG-IM when they're at their best. On paper, they can field a very solid player in LosirA and Happy. If they happen to lose... send out..the current GSL Champion, Seed. Oh..you somehow managed to beat Seed? send out..2 time GSL Champion, MC. Oh..you managed to survive MC? Now, you have to play 3 time GSL Champion, Nestea. Oh wow..you managed to beat Nestea... Well....I guess LG-IM has to concede...IF you beat the 4 time GSL Champion, IM-MVP.

Too. Good. That's what everyone was saying at the beginning of the season, then they lost anyways.
Yes, in GSTL instead of playing their aces (they can probably field an entire team of aces at this point) they send out: horror, True, Yongwha, YoDa, and then Happy...
Or maybe sometimes ZergBong and IMNotMvp.

Honestly its pretty insane how talented LG-IM is compared to the rest of the scene. And the thing is their younger talent just keeps looking better and better. Yoda will most likely do well in GSL next season, if he can take his code A results into code S. The way Seed played I don't think he's going to be a fluke player at all. If they can do well in the GSTL they'll be stupidly good as a team.
On a side note I hope LG never stops sponsoring IM. For whatever reason I relate to the team more as LG than IM, even though the sponsorship is pretty new. It is probably because that giant LM logo on the front of their jerseys for the last two seasons. I guess that means the sponsorship did its job pretty damn good though, didn't it?

seed is now allowed to wear a cap !

"This contains spoilers" and the first thing you see is that Seed has a gold medal beside his name.... So sad that IM is so dissapointing in the team league, especially this season with their new head sponsor
|
Almost forgot Losira had a Silver and yes, Yoda is someone to watch out for next season... a potential royal roader (and a serious contender too cuz he's from IM).

That's true but they are doing amazing in IPLTAC3.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't IM also the only team to even have more than one player win a championship, even before Seed won?

That still boggles my mind. I think their coach takes player input a bit too seriously if that's even possible...there's gotta be a way to draw up strategies to put their potentials to better use than what's happening now.

I think it may be reasonable to say that perhaps iM's individual success, lies in the fact that they rarely send out their key players in team leagues. This not only minimizes the team players to be studied, but also conceals new strategies until the time is right to unleash them, not to mention the players and coaches have more time to work on individual games rather than gstl opponents.
|
Well I don't understand why they (tastetosis + others) think Nestea is still one of the best. Nestea hasn't put out any results recently. Stephano even showed more and beaten better players than Nestea. There are probably 4 or 5 zergs players that are now better than Nestea. DRG, Leenock, Stephano, Symbol and maybe Nerchio.
Only MVP and now Seed are the ones who are putting up the good results.

man when you're a multiple gsl winner you don't give a shit what people think of your shorts.

Hopefully Seed's win is very motivating for the other people in the IM Team, realizing that not only MVP and NesTea can win a tournament like GSL but others inside the team aswell.

team league is very different from tourney games
so much of IM's wins have just been incredible planning and that doesn't really come into play in the team league... or not in the same way at least.

technically, shouldnt MC be there? Arent they partners? I thought MC is on their IPL squad etc?

Never drop out of Code S is one of the hardest thing to do.

Best team in SC2 by far :D

It's funny how MVP has his hand on the check in the picture xD. Must be a reflex from winning so much shit.

IM just needs to finally deliver in the GSTL again. They've won it before and own the shit out of IPL TAC, but somehow not GSTL -_-...
On July 30 2012 10:01 opterown wrote:debatable, especially in team leagues haha
No not debatable at all if you factor in individual league achievements. As far as team leagues they've even won IPL TAC before, and GSTL. It's incredibly likely they'll win IPL TAC3 as well given their current run and the fact that they'll be up a bo9 in the grand finals.
Closest team to them would probably be Slayers considering they've won two GSTL and got to the finals in the current one. Plus MMA won a ton of stuff. However, IM still blows them out of the water.

Only MVP and now Seed are the ones who are putting up the good results. DRG, ok. Leenock, great in teamleague but recently not that good in solo, he got his code S spot back so it can change Stephano, i won't go into this since you can't compare them, to much different tournaments. Nerchio, same as Stephano Symbol, a little early to say tbh, Not to mention Nestea never dropped out of code S and once again made it ro8.
Conclusion: Nestea is indeed still one of the best, just not as dominant as before. Remember he carried the whole zerg race for some time since open season 2.

The coach is supposed to know better and make the decisions that are best for the team, not listen to each members wish to play. If they get a new coach or the coach grows some balls and does his job then they will be good. dreamertt: Coach, I want to play next week in the GSTL finals. I will do an all-kill. Coach: Awesome, go get 'em. Yoda said that he's got your back just in case.
Well, btw dreamertt succeed to qualify the WCS (even good players like mma / symbol / taeja / supernova failed to qualify it) / YoDa advanced to Code S next season without losing a single set vs July / Oz / SuperNova.
The B-teamers of LG-IM are also tremendous too :p
