well luckily even if the list veers off course, it would very likely jump back on course quickly, because when someone wins a tournament they almost always become the UWC

I say we just count WoL only for now, then once the first major HotS tourney concludes (GSL 2013 Season 2? MLG Invitational?) we declare that person the first HotS UWC, and go from there. Just like how FruitDealer was the first WoL UWC.

The order of the showmatches shouldn't make too much differences since it was played after the finals. White-ra won all his showmatches and idra only lost to White-ra. So, Roxxor9999 has changed this quite a bit. At some point, as Die4Ever, it's almost certain to get back on the same path. So, Life is almost guaranteed to still be our world champion, but how it gets there will definitely change.

I think showmatches shouldn't be counted.

Agreed actually, because in showmatches you aren't meant to play to win, but meant to show fo your skills, do crazy things. MVP for example is probably way less interesting in a showmatch than in a normal match, because showmatches aren't exclusively about winning, but also doing the mass recall into your opponent's base, or instagibbing your opponent's army with yamatos. Because of this, I think we shouldn't see showmatches as competitive games, and therefore, no one should be crowned ¨unofficial best player¨ due to them. But after all, this is kind of a joke thread, so maybe we can just let it go.

Just did a quick lookthrough on TLPD. So if we give it to White-ra, then he loses it to Sjow at Dreamhack Winter 2011 (he actually almost lost it to viPro at that tournament, which would have really messed things up). So Sjow gains it from 25-11-11 until 24-02-12 when he loses to Violet 0-2 at MLG Winter Arena. From there it converges as MKP wins both the Winter Arena and Winter Championship.

Basically it looks like this would rewrite about 4 months of championships and Sjow would become the person with the longest time as champion. Unless I missed something of course.

Well, it's opterown's thread, but looking at the OP, it does say tournament play, not showmatches. However, either way is fine with me as it's just a fun thread to follow. Also, it doesn't look like the title has ever been transferred in a showmatch according to the liquipedia page.

hmm the problem with excluding showmatches is where to draw the line e.g. what about ipl hot import nights, pure invitationals, ipl dice, etc?

I'd guess, anything the organisers label as a ¨showmatch¨? The intent of the organiser would be purveyed to the players, meaning they'd see it as a showmatch or not, period. Although I wonder where IPL Fight Club does fall (if that is even relevant), maybe we should ask the organisers themselves

online matches are never counted, so IPL FC is out anyways

perhaps if the showmatches are attached to a tournament like the ASUS ROG showmatches then they should not be counted. But if the players have to go to the venue just for the matches like IPL Hot Import Nights then they could be counted? man idk lol

so Huk defeats TheStc, then MC defeats TheStc and Huk defeats MC in the finals, the OP is correct on this

Maybe we should count showmatches done on LANs played for money then I guess, since it is a bit hard to determine what is and isn't a showmatch. But going back to the original argument, we shouldn't count this GSTL pre-season, or anything played on HotS beta imo. So it'd basically stay in GSL until after this season (unless Parting wins it and then loses it to someone at IEM WC).
