The only thing that annoys me about Dreamhack still (last year I didn't like that they weren't open tournaments) is the prize distribution. We've had one progamer come out and say that only top 4 getting money was the reason he didn't attend (Socke), how many others would this be true for? It seems such a weird thing to do.

Other than that. SOOO EXCITED.
For everyone who says there not that thrilled by the player pool, at least tune in for the Ro4 or the finals, the production, crowd and at that point the games will be amazing, I guarantee it.

Is there a Korean in this topic that can translate the following for me to Korean?
"Warp Prism Harass!"
I really want HerO to sign that on my keyboard but I couldn't make it clear for him the last time.

I agree. I don't get excited for dreamhacks due to the lack of top koreans. The last dreamhack had one of the worst lineup I've seen in a long time, not only due to lack of koreans, but barely any top foreign pros attended too. I read socke doesn't attend cause only top 4 get money, so he doesn't feel it's worth it.

I remember watching some dreamhacks last year as those seemed to get some good koreans, I think. However, the player quality has dropped a lot this year. I may watch the finals depending on who is in it, but as a tournament, dreamhack isn't very interesting to me.

I disagree with you.

I actually like that Dreamhack doesnt pretend to be another MLG with all the korean superstars. If i want to see the very best koreans i would rather watch GSL.

Totally agree - we have lots of big tournaments with full Korean lineups (GSL, MLG Arenas/Championships, IPL). Dreamhack doesn't exclude Koreans, just has a broader mix. The proof is how Dreamhack is received after the event has ended - the last event had a really incredible finish with Thorzain beating Polt in front of a great and loud crowd, and Winter had the hockey stadium that went to the last game.

Well, at dreamhack will be 2 quarter-finalists and a semi-finalist from last seasons GSL and 4-6 from the MLG championship, so lets not pretend like MLG is somehow miles better.

This whole "Dreamhack is bad because they don't invite the top players only!!" argument is getting old.

Do you want the hardcore tournament? go watch GSL, they have to seed people like Stephano into Code S because Code A is too damn hard to go through. Want medium/semi hard tournamens? check out MLG/Blizzcon. Want an open ended tournament that allows anyone to sign up and get a chance to compete against the pros? Then watch Dreamhack.

While they have a lot of focus on SC2, remember that DH is about the LAN event and LOTS of other tournaments. I agree that it's sad that they don't pay for the top players to show up, but DH is so much more than just SC2. To give you some perspective, these are the other tournaments they host:

http://www.dreamhack.se/dhs12/esport/

Slightly more than 200k USD in prize money for all tournaments + an additional 40k USD for the swedish nationals. SC2 accounts for 12,5% of the total prize pool for the event. I think they compensate the players in some form for the invitationals, but don't quote me on that

So what you're trying to say is that you like Dreamhack being a "pro foreign" tournament where there is really only a handful of "pro" players even attending? Dreamhack to me is just a proving ground for amateurs. I really don't want diamond/master level players duking it out with players that are incredibly better then they are.

Enjoy your amateurs getting destroyed in group stages. I'd rather just watch the couple top level players that are going to make the semi finals. I find no entertainment in bad play.

A handful? You must have some freakish large hands then cause there are a lot of pro's attending. You sound like only amateurs are attending or something, after the first group stage we will see a lot of good players play against each other. Yes the first day wont be full with great matches, so?

Watch the recap from day1 and tune in for the next days/stages. Why whine about matches you dont have to watch? Or even better, dont watch at all.

DH obviously does not aim to be another korean stacked tournament which is good. a tournament has to position itself on the market like product nowadays. why be number 4 after GSL/MLG/IPL in terms of korean superstars and prize pool? sure the level of gameplay at group stage is not comparable to a GSL ro32, I like to watch DH nonetheless, its a bit different, so thats good!

differentiation and variety in the tournament scene is definitely better than to focus to be the same like the others. in the long term, the whole scene will grow better due to distinguished production approaches.
