"I wanted to join a foreign team so that I would have many opportunities to compete internationally. Recently, it has been somewhat hard at home because my sister started college, so I want to be able to help my sister."
What made you want to join Quantic specifically?
"I talked with a few different teams. However, for me Quantic was able to understand me and the opportunities I was looking for better than other teams. After talking to their management for some time, and seeing how kind they are as a team, I decided I wanted to join Quantic."
Do you plan on attending many international events this year?
"Yes! I want to go to as many foreign tournaments as possible. I want to meet my foreign fans! They have so much passion. I like it!"
Do you have a message to your fans, or anyone you would like to thank?
"To my fans: Now, I start on a new team. I will try very hard to show good results. I hope all of my fans will show interest in me and cheer for me and Quantic!
I also want to give a big thank you to Razer, Machinima VS, DB Vision, and TwitchTV for helping this to become a reality. I'm very thankful!"
Fantastic pick up for Quantic. THEStc is someone I always looked to for strategies when SC2 beta came out. He has stood the test of time in SC2 and that says a lot. He is a scary opponent. Congrats.
Quantic's been lookin' to bolster their line-up. Vile was good for their NA squad and this is good for their KR squad! I hope Apocalypse gets to practice with him :D
Holy crap this is a huge pick up, with the lkes of illusion, STC, naniwa, SaSe, all they need is a few good zergs (spanishiwa yes but he has been in school) and quantic will be a serious team to compete with in team leagues.
SaSe, Naniwa, Apocalypse, Illusion, STC. Quantic looking strong but to be honest I believe the Quantic roster is way too big. I assume all of their players receive some kind of salary and I simply can't imagine that some of the players are worth keeping especially since they have quite a few unknown and rather bad players on their roster.
Some1 make a thread or add to the OP that they also signed 'Decemvre' ?? At least his skype is now Quantic_Decemvre . dont know if it's public yet... oh well.

StartaleQ just got even scarier, naniwa, ace, squirtle, parting, bomber, july, curious, virus and now thestc. Now that's a team which should be illegal.

WHAT?
I hardly can imagine that to be honest.... I face him on ladder regulary and hes about high masters level and also rather unknown... wow this blows my mind if its true. Don't see any reason why a big team like Quantic would sign a player of this level, but if its true it would make very happy at the same time :D maybe I need to practice just a little more and a team like Quantic would sign me aswell :D OK guys I'm going ladder cya^_^
theSTC is such a strong player that I always try to steal his play/strategies from time to time. Now that he is on NA, I cannot wait to see him do well.
Great pickup. Too bad it's unlikely we'll see him next week in the GSTL unless they changed those rules applying to roster changes. Still, will be awesome to see him compete at international events as well!
So awesome. I've loved this guy since the early times when he was more of a name but players always spoke highly of him. He's gonna do well in Code S this season I think which makes Quantic decently represented in GSL :D Definitely a team on the rise
Quantic, this the last straw. I've had it up to here with you guys..... + Show Spoiler +
So now I'm going to buy a shirt and a hoodie from you.
Spoiler alert: I like what you've been doing, didn't like the Destiny sign and wouldn't support you with him on the team, however your team has been doing really good things for e-sports. Its time you guys got some love. Picking up the Vile guys was a huge step, continuing with your trend of picking up players with great talent and an unfortunate turn of events has gained you huge respect in my book, and will gain you some cash from my wallet.
Naniwa, Sase, Apocalypse and now TheStC. Really awesome 4 players they have in Korea. Now they just need some really strong Zergs on korean level as well :D
It seems that korean sc2 teams are not capable of signing established players anymore. Every established player leaving his team goes to a non korean team. I really don't know if I like this. -_-

Just wait till this season of Proleague is over and the deal about not signing "sc2 players" is not in the game. Some money will be spent on koreans alright.

yeah the current SC2 teams will simply fall apart. Is this what we should want? They were responsible for the developement of all those great player we have around these days. But I don't see any korean team besides IM holding their stars, when big money teams come in and want to buy them out. That's a sad thing to happen
Great Pickup, great for the STC also. He can attend foreign tounaments, but still maintain the Korean Training enviroment at Startale. Gratz to both parties.
That's really too bad. I was hoping he would end up in a Korean team. It seems like everytime a Korean player leaves a Korean team they end up signing with a foreign team.
Wooohooo, TheSTC is such a sick player, and I also feel he's full potentiall hasnt come out yet! Im sure he will post some great results together with Quantic

The ex-oGs guys wanted to explore opportunities with foreign teams where possible, though (as they could get a salary). IIRC, TheStC mentioned this specifically (that he wanted a salary to help his family) in his winner's interview when he made Code S.

Yes... my point is is that it's a shame that Korean teams can't provide their players with the same benefits a foreign team can (other than better players to practice with and coaches).
Awesome, glad he'll be going to more foreign tournaments. Also he was starting to look sick good before his team disbanded so hopefully he has kept up his skill going into the near future.
On June 07 2012 03:23 Promethelax wrote: Well, I lost the bet. Really good pick up by Quantic and great team for theStC congratulations to both and to McFeser
Still hoping he can be the best starcraft player of all time. He showed us insane multitasking & first real solid terran macro play in the days of onebase ;__;
Quantic for GSTL next season....yes that´s right bitches i called it... Naniwa, Sase, Illusio, Agh, and now TheStc..... Quantic is getting some seriously heavy players..... and only one of them is a korean^^
I'm happy if TheStC's happy, hope he starts to kick it back to his former glory. And I can't wait to see him at more foreign events And ofc it's a fucking great pickup for Quantic! GL to both parties.
Its crazy, in my mind thestc is synonymous with oGs, but glad he found a team and hope he produces good results he was always an interesting terran to watch

TheSTC is a great player... but Supernova is top 5 IMO...
Maybe he's on team but team's gonna announce it right before code S starts.
Either that or he's really taking his time, being ogs' ace and top 8 code S and IEM runner up gives you as it turns out a surprising amount of room to negotiate with teams he can probably pick and adjust offers until he gets the perfect one for him.

Or he's just demanding such a huge number that no team wants to commit to, kinda like Killer did before he joined coL...
Yay, theStc is one of my favorite terran players I am happy he got picked up by a good stable team Hopefully he can help Naniwa learn to defend from early terran cheese so he never loses like he did in last GSL :D

Yeah. There are tons of good players to pick up now, and I hope they all find good homes. fOrGG, InCa, Supernova, and TOP come to mind (though ... TOP, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?), and TheWind would make a fantastic addition to any coaching staff (a team like Fnatic that has a solid roster but no actual coach would do well to pick him up before KeSPA snatches him).
Quantic just got a rock solid guy and he should prove to play better I think. Soo yea thats great.
TheWind Imo would be a good coaching pickup for Liquid here. They need a solid coach and oGs had worked with Liquid in the past so it would make sense for them to pick up someone who can be dedicated as a coach instead of having the entire team acting basically as it.
Quantic has a really diverse and strong team with Naniwa, Sase, Illusion, theognis, and now theSTC.
Naniwa is code S and probably a top 3 player in Europe, Sase top 10 I would say. Illusion and theognis are some of the most hyped up and coming American players, only time will tell just how valuable they are. And now they're adding an ex-oGs Code S Terran who's finished his military service. He may not be one of the top players but he's really consistent. I think Quantic can become one of the best foreign teams.
Gratz to Quantic! It seems weird to me to think that: 1) Vile players and other americans 2) Sase + Nani 3) STC are all in the same team. Seems impossible to think of.
He kept getting bashed on other people's interviews, so it would suck if he didn't have practice partners and such to help him maintain his Code S status as well as improve on his mechanics, decision-making and unit positioning/micro.
On June 07 2012 09:57 MrCash wrote: This freaking thread better get to like 50 pages. That spades stuff, cumulatively, is +300 pages.
Go STC, Quantic is becoming an increasingly beastly lineup.
You want 50 pages of people saying "Good job!" ?
There's nothing to discuss. It's an announcement, it should get a lot of views, not a lot of discussion.
People simply only know how to gossip. Discuss STC's awesome builds, his recent performances and how you believe they will transfer over to Quantic. Discuss what kind of impact you think he might have on Quantic in team leagues, will he be like Nada to complexity or will he be the new Ace?
There is tons of stuff to discuss, I'm just saying enough people are interested enough in those things to discuss it for at least a little bit and not attracted purely to TMZ drama. I'm also not against having those drama threads, to a certain extent they are healthy and necessary, I just don't want quality discussions to go extinct.
Nice pickup. From what i've seen he's been quite in the scene lately. Maybe I'm wrong and just blind though. But he is an excellent player and will help Quantic hopefully.

That would be amazing. I know everyone has probably heard it a thousand times by now but he is easily one of the best terrans, so underrated. I also wonder who will pick up forgg and inca.
On June 07 2012 03:06 skiersteve wrote: so this means stc can play for startale in the gstl? that would be awsome if he could join bomber :D
I don't think he can since the rosters had to be submitted before the start of the tournament as far as I've heard. Though Gom can make an exception for it also iv heard though I could've heard wrong on both accounts so maybe not the wisest to take my words as factual since im not really sure.
Such a solid player for Quantic to pick up. He really helps round out their lineup in my opinion and makes a strong argument for being their ace alongside Naniwa.
Great pickup by Quantic. StC has always been underrated in my opinion. It's now solidified in my opinion that Liquid will pick up Supernova (StC was also in the question, at least for me) to bolster their Terran lineup which has been slacking since TLO switched to Zerg and Jinro has been slumping.
This makes me happy! STC is so good and Quantic is so good and STC seems like such a nice guy wanting to help his sister! If I get luck enough to see him play live, I'll cheer for him very much! STC FIGHTING!
I find it interesting how every Korean, in the final comments, always says some iteration of "try my best to show good results." It sounds so lame in English hahahaha
Gratz to Quantic! I hope STC's English is as good as the OP makes it seem (best way to draw in a foreign crowd)
However....
I feel like this signing is akin to bringing David Beckham to the US. Extremely exciting and interesting to watch at first, but then, you start to notice he's past his prime and slowly but surely you/fans stop watching or caring.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight... because someone past their prime would get into Code S for the first this year and beat 2 former champions when he got there.

Supernova is living in the TL house in Korea, that seems like plenty of information. But TL is are probably just following the lead of the korean teams and letting the dust settle before announcing it.

I think they'll announce it somewhere subtle in Liquid Rising.
This is a really awesome pickup for Quantic, the STC is a power house terran and he can do wonders for their team, i hope really soon that more ex oGs players will get picked up in the future.
I remember two games from beta that awestruck me: A game where Hasuobs pre-empted a terran's kiting with four perfect psi storms and the very first game where I saw a terran do multi-prong drops with pro dropship micro; it was of course TheStC! Have been a fan ever since.
and also Vines . . . why does everyone not love vines? he practically all kills in team league, can grind interminable stretches of ladder games while maintaining an incredibly high level of play, but it seems like nobody mentions him
r.i.p oGs. Had so many good players! But that is yesterday,

Congrats and Good Luck STC!! Smart pickup Quantic
It's true Vines is a good player that doesn't get much credit but he also hasn't had a huge breakout performance at a major tournament. That is unfortunately how most people perceive whom the top players are.

I feel like SC2 tournaments are very much an "any given Sunday" sort of affair. It's a game similar to many others (poker, chess, sales) where the only statistics that have any meaning are those over a large period of time; and even then there are outside factors (in pro-gaming sponsorship level, jet lag etc.) which can dominate the results.
In the end, the only way to judge a player is by your estimation of whatever quality of their play appeals to you. I can see the argument that as an "e-sport" results are important and should serve as an objective means of determining various players' skill levels. And I'm sure that practically every pro feels strong pressure to get results, from their sponsors if nothing else. But in the end I guess I don't believe that SC2 is balanced, should be balanced or is even of a nature that it can be judged 100% objectively. i.e. You can play better than your opponent and still lose! Try to play as many games of rock paper scissors as pros play games at MLG, and even adjusting for the greatest of skill variants you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.
And although I doubt most of of my favorite players will have any major tournament wins, there is something in their play I find admirable or noble even, and that is worth more to me than any given tournament result.
If there's anything I'd like players to take away from this it's not to sweat results too hard, the beautiful games you create are what myself, and I hope many others will remember you for Too often I think people talk as if e-sports should be just like sports, but rather I'd hope for the opposite: less cut-throat results driven harshness, less demand for formality and professionalism and more easy-going celebration of the process and the beauty that is two high level pros playing this very fun game.
