There's plain clear evidence that he is hacking, did you even bother looking at the evidence or were you just eager to bash the SC2 community for calling out obvious cheaters?

Except we should identify what is the 'flaw' here is exactly.. the hacks are not even faking any data simply reading data that's accessible to the client or automating inputs to do things like the blinking (the latter of which is stupid if you are trying to be undetected and should definitely be detected however).
But the former problem is just inherent to being on a platform that is open. Even copy protection systems that run at ring0 level (and i would not go anywhere near any Blizzard shit that ran at ring0 level) are not effective. The effective ones rely on something which is closed and not open to the user (USB dongles, or servers handling data; the latter being how games like LoL work i think). The ones that work without that, like Starforce, are massively complex projects made by great programmers who are specifically experienced in that field. most likely ex-crackers.
So while on one hand it's harsh to criticize them for a problem that literally every commercial software developer has faced forever, this is Activision-Blizzard one of (or the?) richest development companies that exist. If an upstart Russian company in the case of Starforce can make one of the hardest protections ever made then Blizzard could, it's just another thing on their endless list of shit they won't put significant money towards doing. The reason why copy protection is so relevant is because its heavily based around protecting the data in memory, if SC2 had Starforce for example then there would be no hacks at all because of it's memory obfuscation techniques, and if you remove the protection then you can block the client from playing online. That would still be not 100% but would basically need a whole team of dedicated people working full time to make a solution which won't ever happen.
A realistic solution doesn't even need to be anywhere near as complex, especially as they are constantly patching the game.. there's tons of possible techniques to use to make it just annoying enough that it won't be significantly broken. I think we can all tell by now the incompetence/unfunded state of SC2's online support though so it shouldn't be a surprise. Maphacks were made days after beta release and i mentioned this exact issue with online tournaments and it will get worse.

Could someone update this OP plz!
The alleged hacker withdrew himself from the tournament. If anything, this should be closed now.

Oh hey this is still a thing. Good job making somehow fear for his life and withdraw from a video game tournament. Instead of Zack losing and going home, it'll be someone else losing and going home. Course corrected, history rewritten, gg no re.

I'm just shocked that he still is signing on and has his GM status. They demoted Impa to bronze and banned him. Why does this HRGzack get special treatment?

Idk its pretty interesting that blizzard themselves invited a hacker to their own tournaments of all things why should it be closed ppl deserve to know and blizzard to be put to shame, and hopefully learn from their mistakes

I highly doubt he did it out of "fear for his own life" but more well everyone will see im a skilless newb hacker and that would just be terrible. So before saying stuff like that look at the track record of those who hack in major things like that. They generally withdraw not cause of fear of their lifes but being found out as the frauds they are.

Well I guess there goes any chance of Blizzard cancelling his hotel room and return flight for the lulz.

I don't mean to be the devils advocate... But maybe we should do less shitting on blizzard for trying to create another WCG'esc event/league and stop crying every time anyone fucks up. I feel as if reality is bent slightly when I come into these topics, OBVIOUSLY blizzard wasn't sitting in the executive meeting discussing this and (best incontrol impression of Mr. B) saying "lets invite some notorious map hackers"... Instead they probably were trying to profit on the industry, while adding creative elements. They made a mistake, it happens, they can learn, but we don't need the parasites running down another piece of the industry over a mistake. Let's get real guys.
And good that he withdrew, at least he owns up to the fact he's a hacker.

I was kinda hoping he would go and then they would stream him getting shown up.......ah well

He said he withdrew or he really did?

As he got clearly identified as a hacker, did Blizzard took back the 200$ he had "won" from the WCS, and will his account get banned as well as punishment?

I don't know. Bashiok just mentioned to me that "he withdrew from the event" and provided no further details. I did bring up that he's still in GM and not banned though, so we'll see if anything further happens in that regard. I also have no details on what's going to happen with the prize money.

I don't understand. Every day in society I see people who couldn't care less about other people. Couldn't care less about his neighbor the unemployed, the disabled, even the thief. Somebody shouts "help" and people pretend they don't hear. Boss threatens them with illegal unpaid overtime and they nod silently.
But now I see so much enthusiasm about a hacker across the ocean playing a RTS. How come I see so much interest to set things right. Why isn't this attitude reflected even as a small percentage in every day living?
I really wonder about this. You never hear about similar things like this in the "real world". It's all about mind your own business. I'm genuinely puzzled. Is it the safety of the internet? What is it?
Its nothing to do with everyday things every 1 is united in this because everyone hates cheaters stop trying to make it about the real world its about a game and people hate people who cheat at games and always will idiot

So, I'm seeing that Zack got matched up with Spades in the Losers Bracket R1 of WCG USA and Spades got a walkover win. What a coincidence.
