But liking him in any way is getting to be irritating when he constantly looks down his nose upon the people that are the reason he gets paid to play. He could simply say "I'll not be attending" but he has to get that jab in at the fans. I think I'm done with Naniwa. I think Quantic will get a letter as to why. i hate the phrase but emailing teams and saying why you don't like a player really hurts esports >_>

Emailing teams has been stated by people much more knowledgeable than us as the go-to for stating our discontent with something specific to the team (i.e. players).

Players like Naniwa should know that they can't take jabs at fans and the community like that without some repercussion. It's pretty bad that people think that making players accountable for their words and actions hurts eSports and its community. It only helps to legitimize it if we hold players accountable.

![]() I'm hoping for someone who, like 2GD, is more natural and outwards when it comes to these kinds of interviews. Casters/personality driven players/players who speak to the public a lot would be good examples.

Also is it not a good thing that he wants to focus entirely on playing? He is pretty much the best foreigner right now after all. (Judging on GSL performance at least, Stephano would have something to say.)

The little I have read about Nani's personal life doesn't seem like it would be particularly easy or fun to talk about, and if he doesn't want the world knowing everything about him then that's his choice. Also is it not a good thing that he wants to focus entirely on playing? He is pretty much the best foreigner right now after all. You obviously didn't read the by where he says 'When I retire I will release a book of SC2 secrets with Idra tidbits'. Nani is just all talk and he hasnt exactly made people think otherwise with these most recent statements.

On topic, great show so far JP, really loving it! Well that makes little sense to me. Firstly, I don't hate him at all. I think he's an amazing player...just one with a total disrespect and lack of appreciation for the people that cause there to be money available for him to live on. He's so fun to watch, so talented, and as a non-Korean he is a person we really need in this sport. Yet, his negligence towards the fans is appalling; worse still, it can't even be called negligence...it seems outright disdainful. His attitude constantly comes off as one of resentment towards the community. Time and time again he slights other players, casters, and fans. His message really could have been "I won't be doing the show" and yet he chose to stick in the "I don't give a shit about you" shot. He actively makes a point to go out of his way to marginalize and demean the fanbase; if this was a one-time thing I'd not give two thoughts about it. Secondly, in regards to the earlier comments about hurting esports: if I were to write any such letter, it would be to the team not the sponsors. In my opinion, the only time writing a sponsor is appropriate is in the case of direct player sponsorship (ie, if NonY drops a few slurs...writing Stride wouldn't be out of line in my opinion as they fund him directly, not the team, thereby punishment for his actions wouldn't hurt those around him) or if a team were to continuously ignore repeated issues by a player (ie, if NonY drops more slurs...every week...and Liquid does nothing about it, I feel it'd be time to go over their heads [when I say repeated, I mean VERY often with zero response from the team]). I feel as though in a case such as this, voicing my opinion to the team is the exact correct avenue; it has no effect on the other members of the team, doesn't cause a sponsor to bat an eye as they needn't be informed, and allows any action taken (or even just the notice of disapproval) to be an in-house deal. Do you not inform a supervisor if a cashier at a store or a staff member at a restaurant is consistantly rude and condescending? I feel my response to be very well measured. More to the topic at hand, JP I absolutely love every episode of this. You're an excellent interviewer and this is exactly the type of show that this community needs in order to expand this sport. This show gives you a backstory to the players, casters, and the like... it creates a personal connection with people and inserts into you a vested interest in the success or decline of that person; I feel this is especially true in the case of the players as often times not much is heard from them and it's easy to feel as though they are just little more than a part of the machine the game is played on. It all feels very "Behind the Music." As a message to the players out there that may be asked to do this show, please do it. I remember during the whole deal ClouD a while back people were questioning whether casters made too much money, the ease with which they do their job compared to the effort the players have to put in, and so on. This show (and others as well, but particularly one as personal as this) is your chance to change that and become more known and engaged in the community...casters are the face of the business because they are in front of the camera and it's their voices that are heard most often - get yourself in front of the camera and let us hear your voice and your story. Edit: TL;DR - Naniwa is a great player but I dislike that he doesn't care about the fans. Emailing sponsors, bad; emailing teams, good. Yay, JP. Everyone should do this show.

It's because there's a huge concentration of idiots who think they know what they're talking about but actually don't. There's tonnes of baseless flame for under-performing pros, high standards, accusations of lack of practice, disagreements about balance, and so on. Naniwa is damn right to think that this community isn't worth him worrying over. If I were a pro gamer (and maybe someday I'll be :D) I would post only in match threads or perhaps balance threads. Any other association is just asking to get flamed, disrespected, or anything else. Naniwa has endured a HUGE amount of hate from this community (and this is coming from someone who doesn't even particularly like his play) for all sorts of extremely overblown reasons. He can think whatever the fuck he likes, and shame on you for thinking Quantic should be doing something about this. Grow up.

"After further consideration i feel that there is no need to talk about my personal life on a show in front of people i dont really care about, I will focus on my game and thats all." Maybe it's just some poor wording and he just doesn't want to speak about his personal life in a public setting? I think he'd be game to do the second half of Real Talk (opinion on balance, other players, and the scene in general).

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Regardless, is it really difficult to understand why he has no interest in parading around with the community if he doesn't want to, given his tendency to receive flak?
