No, continuing to win is not stable.

I'm worried about that jump. It's either a bad game, or you haven't had a good game in a very long time. From the looks of your graph, I'm guessing you just haven't had a good game in awhile, and now that you have, it's corrected itself.

Barabas, if we make the assumption that the graph is correct, you can get a better sense of your promotion rate if you use "mov avg" mode. Starcraft won't promote you until your moving average gets a certain distance above the promotion line; you have to be averagely above the line, not just kinda above it.

Note that the current stabilization rules that Blizzard uses are unknown. Usually it takes some 5 to 15 games to rise to next league after your MMR rises over league border & does not drop under the border & you don't just win (stabilization rules for demotions seem to differ from promotion rules). The moving average feature in MMR tool does not use the same method as Blizzard uses. You can view your MMR changes more accurately if you do not use that setting.

I did not check Barabas case, but cause for the MMR jump can be 'bad data' for some match, or there are lots of missing games (MMR tool not on) between 'good games', or inaccurate offsets for some leagues, or lots of estimate games (not 100% game) in a row where MMR has changed much more than it would have against 'equal opponents' (this is not the reason for this case). To see which games are estimates and for which games MMR was calculated go to MMR-Stats Config, select 'Data' tab and switch 'Mark assumptions / bad games' on.

There will hopefully in near future be update regarding offsets for MMR tool. I think I am close finding more accurate values for plat-gm range, but still have to go through lower leagues. I will check Barabas case when I check offsets for lower leagues.

Hey Sorten, I added the mov. avg graph, it indeed shows a better flow.

Korona, I only had two times when I forgot to turn on SC2 gears. A win and a loss. Over 3 weeks ago. The picture actually went strange when I started SC2 gears in the morning, so before any match was played that day. I do understand the levelling part and that it can take time and that you need a lot of games, I don't mind actually. This gives me at least an idea that I am getting there.. It could very well be as I am now playing against the top levels of the next league.

I now have turned on this "Mark assumptions / bad games" , it does not show an immediate change yet.
Thanks for all your help anyway, I will let you know when I get stable.

Most likley the last games are an claculation mistake. It will fix with autocorrect as soon as you get your next good game.

exactly. Something they just did not understand.
They see
so many popular custom games in BW and we have no controll over it.
in sc2 we need more controll!

Instead of
with more controll there will be no popular custom games and mods.
How do we give them freedom and have something from it?


Valve learned this leason, blizzard still do not understand the dynamic of maps/mods.
But they will learn it in the long run or disappear.

I'm actually bronze and has passed the silver gap but it still didnt promote me even though i'm stable.
As you can see on the pic, ~30 games in silver but i'm still not promoted...

Is it because mmr stats isn't 100% accurate or do I need to play more games ?

It worked perfectly for me! As soon as I crossed the masters boundary I was promoted. There was a point before this where it stopped working correctly(gave results that made no sense) but after I deleted my previous games it began working again.

Just got promoted to masters for the first time. SUPER happy right now. As soon as the moving average hit the masters line I got my promotion. Awsome tool! Thanks!

Hi, what happened here is that you only have 4 "good" games. A good game means we get all the data we need to calculate your MMR!. A bad game means we just estimate it based on your previous mmr. So it likely put you in silver by error, and then you got several bad games consecutively, essentially calculating your MMR based on the silver error.

When you got another good game, it corrected back to your real MMR.

aha.. so after the winning streak... I lost some.. it stabilized again and went back a league lower.. Nevertheless I know I m close! :D

I got promoted into Plat tonight after my 2nd to last game in this graph. My MMR is around 1232 at this point, which looks like a good 40 points below the line for Plat. Perhaps the threshold for Plat could use some tweaking.

You have assumed values for your last 5 opponents though so that's not exactly reliable information. Actually, almost your entire history is assumed values for yourself, do you have any "good games"?

Hi, I've continued using the tool and I've stumbled across something unusual
I'm currently 0/43 (I'm clearly within the CAP zone ) but a few games ago I got two uncapped opponents out of nowhere (Game 34 and 35)

This seems to have given enough data to give a positive MMR (before that it was in minus figures lol) but ever since I've never seen another uncapped opponent. (If my maths is correct then I've never gone beyond the 162 adjusted points to not be capped and I don't think my opponents were either)

I've tried reading the theories link in an attempt to understand it all but a lot of the info seems out of date due to the tiers being removed. Is there an updated version of the thread or am I just being dumb?

The program simply hasn't gotten a good game to calculate your mmr from. The yellow graph is our best guess, and lets you see something at least. It should fix the second you get a good game.


Do you have the memory scanner enabled?

Yes have had for the last 20ish games

Its always 75/75 though those two games were 75/100

I've read that the program requires you or your opponent to be above divisional MMR or a certain amount of adjusted points (According to the program I'm on 138 atm and haven't been over 160)

Would that be what stops a 100% game?

Blizzard is altering how the bonus pool operates.
Blizzard On Upcoming Bonus Pool Changes


With patch 2.0.4, your Bonus Pool will be expended at twice the rate as it previously was when you play. This will be offset by a change to the rate at which your Bonus Pool accumulates, which will also double.


Actually, this is not the way it works as there are some subtleties we did not mention previously. Let me clarify:

Under this new system you will not receive double the bonus pool for a win on the ladder; when you win you will still receive the same amount. However, the main difference is that you also get bonus poll now when you lose games on the ladder. This doubles the spending rate as well.

The change doesn't make wins worth 33% more than before, but rather makes losses a bit less painful than before.

I hope this doesn't cause problems for the MMR tool.

Both me and InfCereal know about this. The bonus pool mechanic changes should not be too hard to implement. There are also other things that change such as the unranked & ranked mode. If it is straightforward to differentiate unranked games from ranked games the changes should be fairly simple. The web profiles will likely change too and thus the webgrabber has to be updated. Also memory addresses for the memory reader have to be updated.

But one change that worries me is the new replay format, which will likely be similar as current HotS beta replay format. As you know sc2gears does not support HotS replays at the moment. From earlier beta versions it opened the replays and could read basic information such as player id's, map names, game lengths etc. But it cannot read most of the recent HotS beta replays. And MMR-tool relies on some information gained from replays via sc2gears. If sc2gears cannot read the new replay format, the MMR-tool may either need larger changes or wait that sc2gears is updated. We will have wait and see regarding this one.


But as a warning: After the SC2 WoL patch 2.0.4 MMR-tool will likely work either partially or not at all regarding games played after the patch. The changes needed to update the tool are not yet known. Thus I cannot talk about the timetable - may take short or may take long time period. Also as me and InfCereal just took control from the original developer Skeldark, we are not yet too familiar with the code. Thus we have to be extra careful when making the changes (takes more time).

But one thing regarding the patch is good. Work for converting the tool to support HotS can begin after it as it brings many changes related to HotS to WoL: 1) unranked/ranked mode, 2) bonus pool changes, 3) likely new web profiles, 4) possible other things.
