I don't think his maps have been the most balanced of the GSL map pool but they are still pretty iconic maps, and I doubt its easy to get into the GSL map pool to begin with!

Uhh, they aren't perfect, but they've been good enough to make it into the best starcraft 2 tournament in the world. As gameplay evolved and a ton of games were played on them they became outdated, but that doesn't mean his work isn't outstanding.

According to Jacky's Twitter, yep, he is.

Congrats!

Oh man, good to see ESV getting some additional members. Hopefully both he and the rest of the team will push each other to make even better maps. Best wishes to Jacky and ESV!

Just like joining a playing team being part of a map making team means they'll be sharing their ideas and helping one another out with their maps.

I don't love crossfire or calm before the storm but the others are good maps. It is great what ESV are doing for SC2 like all of the maps in particular cloud kingdom are just awesome.

I think the big thing is that he now has the Korean Weekly to act as a proving ground for his maps. Like you said though, race is unimportant.

I actually liked Crevasse a lot, especially in TvT where I saw a lot of positioning battles reminiscent of BW. It's a shame that that map isn't in the map pool anymore, but I really enjoyed a lot of the games on it since the terrain forces players to play more positional than they would be on other maps.

I really look forward to seeing what JackyPrime can do on ESV.

I think its more about his history and how many of his maps have been used extensively in GSL? Its not like ESV didn't make an announcement when Ironman (maker of Ohana, and others) joined their team.

Although I can't count how many times when people talked about tournaments using new maps etc, people reference BW and say only Koreans can make good maps etc. This is just another example of the foreign scene and korean scene working towards becoming more of a global community, which I'd say is a good thing .

Congrats!

I have experienced Jacky as an extremely nice person who wants to interact with the foreign mapmakers and learn every day. Also his English is pretty damn good for a Korean!

Well once Korea gets serious about SC2 and all the BW mapmakers come over and an organization like Kespa is in place, Koreans may get the monopole for mapmaking pretty quickly....

So the one who made all the bad GSL maps? That's kind of funny. I wonder what the terms of him leaving Crux were.

That being said, GL to Jacky, glad to see some mixing of kr-foreign in the mapping scene

You'd think having someone embedded in the Korean scene (with what looks like a direct line to the GSL) would be a great thing for an international map making team

I loved Crevasse, but damn the other 3 are terrible. Even so, its an awesome pickup, ESV continue on their march to world map domination.

Those maps weren't the best (One was a copy of Peaks of Baekdu) but it takes a lot of time and dedication to make awesome maps. Awesome news to have mapmakers in the SC2 news instead of the usual drama shitstorm.
