True! I wonder why, and they are so famous SOTG has nothing to do with EG, and Destiny isn't a EG employee. IdrA has, believe or not, mellowed out. And IdrA is more valuable. But I've never hear IdrA drop n-bombs anywhere.
idra has wished personal death on MANY people, which is just as bad if not worse.
also both of them still represent this community. idra being a very popular pro player and destiny being a extremly popular streamer. also it doesnt matter if idra has "mellowed out". fact of the matter is orb is thousands of times more tamed and mellowed out alot more then idra has. so why is orb hurting EG but idra isnt?

Depends what state, but in many states you don't even need to show cause to fire someone - it's called a "right to work" state. It also depends what type of "employee" he was - it sounds more like he was a "contractor" than a full-time employee since I don't think they were paying benefits and taxes, but I could be wrong.
As for the situation, I'm 33, own my own business (but also work for a medium sized business) and this behavior is just blatantly unacceptable in an employer/employee relationship. I read an intelligent reply by someone here (BreakfastTea?) about whether or not Orb should have been vetted beforehand and it doesn't matter. When a candidate submits a resume or fills out an application, if you lie on that application you can be fired for cause even if you have been with the company for 10+ years. Therefore, if you present yourself to an employer as someone who can uphold the corporate image of a professional gaming team, you are representing the fact that your community identity doesn't have such skeletons.
For the younger people here, you'll be wise to learn that the Internet is forever and while people make mistakes, motivated individuals will be able to find every mistake you have ever made if so inclined. It's a rough reality, but it is the reality we live with today. Rough day for all involved that's for sure TT.

If orb is smart, he'd review the contract right now. I see at least 2 things here: discrimination or outright breach of contract.

I enjoy your casting.
Most of us who have actually played ladder (for SC or other high-stress competitive games, especially team games), understand the rage and how you sometimes are just trying to vent and don't think about being a public figure 2 years later and having people actually read and be offended by it.
I forgive you, don't let it happen again; I look forward to your future casts.

Sorry Orb, it's EG's loss. Was an Orb fan after 5 minutes from watching your stream and you raged at something I rage at. I lose a little bit of love for EG this day, but feel sorry about the whole situation. People call themselves Starcraft fans but apparently have never been on the internet. Bitches be bitches, but they also be crazy. Right Phil?

I think the whole thing is silly and forcing "professionalism" onto games is ridiculous.
I don't think you need to apologise.

Lets compare this to something in the real world. Let's say that you get a new job, and everything is good for a few weeks, when your boss goes onto your facebook without you knowing and sees a video of you and your friends screaming the N word. Any competent person would fire that guy immediately. EG did the right thing to get rid of your bigoted ass. Grow the fuck up. pretty much this there are TONS of high-quality SC2 casters, streamers, players, and personalities out there, and even the ones that occasionally BM know how to toe the line between BM and outright douchebaggery/racism there is no need to keep a guy like orb around in the limelight, farewell and good riddacne!
I honestly can't think of many casters outside the big name ones (Day9 and Tastosis) that I enjoyed listening to more than Orb on the ESV weeklies. Especially as a solo caster I think he was one of the best ones in terms of ability to make a game exciting + explain it well out there.
This is in comparison to any NASL/IPL/GSL Code A/MLG extra casters.

I'll get banned for this, but I don't really care. All you nerds who honestly don't even care about someone who uses the N word go and create drama against orb to get him fired from EG. This happened over 6 months ago, before he even became apart of EG and you're bringing it up to screw the kid over. You guys are fuckin retarded and the worst part is EG's CEO is retarded in believing that the community feels offended at all by this. I never watched orb or knew who he was until this happened, then i realized he was the caster for one of the tournaments I watched and he did a mighty fine job. So sad to see shit like this happen. Nice to see double standards considering idra hasn't received shit from the CEO besides a few harmless words. It would be understandable if this occurred during orb's employment. Also, who are the mods around here because I see users getting warned for posting "wat wat" What kind of place is this? Didn't realize teamliquid was full of cocksucking fucks. This community is utter shit. Whoever owns this shit should reconsider what rules should be implemented. feels like im posting on a fascist forum or something. also, if anyone actually read the CEO's long ass post and takes side with him, fuck you. Dude's a faggot.
User was temp banned for this post.

It sucks that it came down to this, but I really like your casting. Good luck in the future, I hope that you don't give up on SC2!

Even if you didn't break a rule before or after saying it, you will anyway. Be careful what you wish for around here.

This community is getting out of hand, it is chopping peoples head off every other day, we gett people fired from theier jobs and witchhunt people for raging on ladder...
orb, I do hope you can gett back to a good job with casting as I think your one of the best casters we got, good luck in the future!

-> you never thought about racism actually and are just making this statement to save your reputation. there IS racism in your heart, and you denying and not accepting it and working to get rid of it is just arrogant. Sorry, no. You could only argue that Orb has been subject to culture that considers words like "nigger" and "faggot" to be random offensive words. In fact, if you go dig you would find many other words to attack him for, probably about sexism, disrespect to people with slower mental development, disrespect to elders, youngsters, policemen, religions, ethnicity and whatnot. Believe it or not, it's pretty difficult for a person to actually believe all this bigotry at once. The explanation is that the person just throws in whatever random graphic offense comes to mind.
I want to assure you, just in case, that if you ever buy a parrot, and some naughty friends of yours teach it to say "Bitch, go make me a sandwich!" whenever it is hungry, that would not constitute the parrot actually being a sexist towards female dogs.

MLG has pretty decent casters, and NASL is very tolerable. orb really is a 2nd-tier caster...

I agree 100% I have always loved orb when he casts, fucking embarrasing he gets fired over this. Lose respect when people use it in a bad place, not when he is playing a game over the fucking internet.

I've been a fan since the beta. I hope everything turns around for you man. I am by no means condoning the use of the words ever again but I do support you.

Perhaps if an equal number of complaints were sent to EG over their decision to fire Orb things could be reversed (although I'd refuse the offer if I were Orb). Clearly double standards are being held for members of their organisation and this decision to fire him was made to appease the massive influx of complaints towards a new, expendable member of EG.

Never felt such an urge to go to /r/starcraftcirclejerk. Orb said wrong things. That's it, he shouldn't have said that, but you know... Ladder.
|
Good luck orb i am sure you will make it big in casting, and later we will remember this as just another thing...

Edit: I wanted to add something to this post due to something many of the responses have been touching on. Many people think that the fact that I have used this awful word in the past means that the first screenshot submitted was in fact myself, and that I lied to the community. This is simply not true. The first screenshot submitted, that I claimed was not me, was in fact not me. My original story still stands, the difference is that as soon as that screenshot came out on reddit, everyone started scrubbing through replays against me and all of my vods, searching for something to prove I am in fact racist. Thus the screenshots from statements I made 1+ year ago surfaced on reddit. Notice as soon as the first of these screenshots was released, I immediately owned up and apologized (as seen here). All of the evidence of me using the N word (which again, was 100% wrong by me) was from old screenshots/vods way before I was even talking to the EG guys, let alone representing them. Sorry for the confusion, I hope this clears up the issue with my perceived "dishonesty." Note in Alex Garfield's statement the supposed "lying" wasn't even an issue, rather just my actions and poor judgement. As for the lateness in my final apology here and the accusations that I am only doing it now that EG has fired me, I was actually told specifically by EG management not to make any statements (on twitter, teamliquid, or reddit) until they had decided what to do about it and made their own statement. Sorry for this causing any doubt for people as to whether or not my apology is sincere! Last edit: 2012-03-09 15:36:33
so the first time it was brought up it was a friend on his account but a different time when he used the N word he does sorta apologize but mainly uses the post to try to shake it off like its not a big deal and trys to blame other players for using the N word to try and sistract people
