im neutral to it, i dont are either way because its just a word. if u dont find it acceptable thats fine, but dont burn someone alive for it unless they use the term to a extreme, which orb did not. he used the term in the heat of the moment out of rage and never said it again.

Alex Garfield. There are more important things going on in the world. Maybe you don't realize this because you're a wishy washy white kid who was really smart and went to fucking Pomona College and got a degree in Black Studies and Social Justice. You wasted your parents money in college and instead applied your intelligence to an E-sports team. You stand in the toilet throwing shit at Orb, who has been an honest and kind member of the community forever. You are condescending and doing nothing to help anyone.
Solely because of you, not Scoots or any of the other players or personalities, I am becoming less of a fan of EG.

I really disliked his frequent use of the n-word, so I see this as a tough but fair decision. Wellcrafted statement as well.
Hopefully orb has learned from this, and make a comeback in the scene.

why should we "let it go" i think the community did a good thing in the last couple of days, showing that racism and homophobia are completely unacceptable and hold our public figures to a higher standard of proffesionalism is a good thing in my opinion, i really dont understand how people can think its bad. no they did not. the community did a ignorant thing. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE GUY. you just assumed he was racist because of one screen shot from over a year ago. i bet 90% of the ppl in this thread do not even watch orbs stream regularly. the guy isnt racist and he has said NUMEROUS times (well before EG even knew he existed) that he wasnt racist and said he has black friends if im not mistaken. that is why its bad. you people do not know the guy and just jump to conclusions and assumptions purely to start drama. so yes its bad, because you deemed someone as racist when they are not racist. you accused someone as being a witch and burned them at the stake when in fact they are not a witch. thats why people, like you, dissapoint me because all you can do is jump to assumptions and conclusions based on small facts. doesnt matter if you know the guy or not, he said a word you dont like and he deserves to burn for it. so sad and so very ignorant. I dont care if he is not a racist, using racist and homophobic language is not acceptable and by definition bassically makes you a racist or a homophobe. I couldnt care less if he is a nice guy, he is a public figure and should be held to account. and idra is not? how about destiny? idra has used the word fag many time and said more offensive things than i can count. but he is still on EG, and do you know why? cuz idra makes EG money and since he makes them money that makes it ok. do you not find anything wrong or cynical or corrupted about that? because i do. destiny is not a member of EG, but HE IS a figure in the community. the guy went as far as to sexually harass a porn star (mia rose) LIVE on stream while he was drunk by grabbing her boobs numerous times. compared to what idra and destiny has done, orb is VERY tamed, especially since he only said the word once and it was over a year ago for fucks sake. ive covered this before, i think its unrealistic for idra to be fired he is worth 100x more than orb to EG and has gotten better recently in regards to homophobic language. If he uses the language i will say its unacceptable but i understand how business works and EG would be throwing away money if they fired idra. With regards to destiny he mostly supports himself from what i understand so he doesnt have much to lose but I will also say any racist homophobic language he uses is also unacceptable. it doesnt fucking matter how much he is worth. that is what is angering me so much. are you really going to put a price on these guys? do you know how BAD that looks for them? for YEARS idra has been offensive and BM to many, MANY people. and for YEARS he only gets slaped on the wrist. now all of a sudden you feel the need to burn someone alive for 1 silly mistake that he rarely ever makes? do you see a connection here? idra calls someone a faggot people laugh there ass off, orb, who is worth nothing, calles someone a faggot and gets burned alive for his blaphesmy.. do you not see something wrong with that picture? do you not see how bad that looks for EG and Esports as a whole? you have one person being offensive and its acceptable and another person being chewed out for ONE thing that happened over a year ago. if you look at the picure as a whole then you will see that orb has been no where near as offensive as other top pros. this incident happened over a year ago. orb has been more tamed and mellowed out alot more over the last few months WAY before idra. when orb was mellowing out idra was still BMing hardcore. As ive said many times before I PERSONALLY WILL STILL BACKLASH ON IDRA, however i do not control EG policy and am not stupid like many people in this thread and understand that he is not going to get fired, but he does get punished by EG and i have to accept that. cool, you can accept that (go figure). but you can accept a guys dreams and hopes being utterly crushed because of a stupid mistake? a mistake he has done before EG even knew he existed? a mistake that idra has made NUMEROUS times and while representing EG and commentating and has only got a slap on the wrist? sorry, i cant condone that. give orb a second chance at least instead of throw him away because he is worth nothing. that is just utterly disgusting. i cannot and WILL NOT respect a company like that. orb deserves a second chance considering the situation. I dont care about his dream, my dream is for people not to be bigots mabye when that happens orb can be a caster for EG. Im gonna explain the Idra situation like starcraft mabye you people can understand that then. Idra is like a protoss 200/200 deathball army, if I attack him head on about him being homophobic i get crushed everytime because im bassically using roach hydra against his deathball we all know how that goes. To win against idra I have to attack him with small forces at several different times at several different places untill his deathball is out of position or become to weak to win in a head on fight. Im not going to call for idra to be fired because im not going to win head on. Orb however is like a zerg 200/200 army of hydras while I have the protoss deathball, i can win a head on fight with him easily and im going to if it shows some people that racism and homophobia is unacceptable. Idra is being punished for his language but its one step at a time because he is a big earner for EG and if you dont understand that then you have no sense of reality or economics. YOU are a PERFECT example of why i hate people with your mentality. its people like you that i find disgusting because your sense of "justice" is to fucking high and nonsensical. what your basically saying is "i dont give a fuck if he is nice, i dont give a fuck if i know him or not, i dont give a fuck who he is, i dont give a fuck if he saved over 9000 babies from death, he used the word fag!!!!! and he needs to burn cuz he said fag!!!!!!" honestly... why do i even argue with people like you. He is in a public position and used racist and homophobic language in any proffesional public position you would lose your job for that. Im asking that professional standards be upheld and i take racism and homophobia very seriously also i still fail to see if he is a nice guy or saved 9000 babies actually matters, if i muder someone but saved 9000 people ive actually done good overall by 8999 people but i still go to prison, i dont really understand your point there.

I'm black as well, and I don't think you can portray the response as uniformly as you have. There has been great internal debate in our community about the use of the word, should it continue? Should we use it?
People get offended at its use at different levels.
I agree that I'm not offended in this case, but I don't think you can say there aren't blacks who would think the N word being used on a daily basis in their everyday life is something they would welcome, or accept.

I'm not talking about any particular word, I'm talking about behaviors on the whole. I tried to stress that when I said "no mention of racial slurs" as in "this isn't about racial slurs." Orb has a history of being vitriolic, so do IdrA and Destiny. Why they've lasted so long with so many eyes on them is a mystery to me. I'd like a well-behaved community and if the change isn't coming from the bottom up I don't mind it happening top down.

That's a bold statement, my friend.
As far as I'm concerned, we're defined by our actions and behaviour. Orb's behaviour was racist. So people can fairly judge him to be racist. Or do you claim that trying to hurt and insult someone (in retaliation to being cheesed) by calling them black - a nigger - is not racist?
How exactly did you ascertain that Orb isn't racist? Did he hug a black person on stream?

Fair enough. I hate rage (love the game though) especialy when it comes from grown up individuals. Buy yourself a punching bag or something to "vent" , no excuse for racial/ family/ sexuality slurs.
Glad Orb is out of the picture, never liked him.

1. If you can count any times at all that someone uses the N word then it's too many. 2. They were not all over a year ago. One of those screenshots was extremely recent. 3. Yes we "know" who orb is. Let the gladiators of the public scene enter the arena and entertain us. And when we feel like ending there presence, we'll just hype the drama till the gladiator is dead.
Now please enter the next gladiator.

Yip, I don't really want to be a part of this community anymore. I was thinking the same thing. Good. The community clearly doesn't want people who condone the use of language by people like Orb and Destiny. The community doesn't need people like you that jump to conclusions without any thought involved. Do we condone this? No. Do we think the community overreacted and hurt a guys career for a mistake he did in the past? Yes. It's even funnier that you insult me when I'm from a place just recently had apartheid. Really now do you want to go down this road? People must jump off their high horses and realise mistakes happen. Saying a racial slur in anger is a mistake, overreacting like this is another mistake. Both sides lose here there is nothing to gain. It's not as if Orb was going around beating up and subjugating black individuals. Grow up people. I find it amazing the lengths people want to go to avoid "drama". Let the players and casters call people all kinds of slurs - just as long as we don't pick them up on it because it might cause DRAMA>?!? "Both sides lose here there is nothing to gain" <- I mean, what? The SC2 community improves its reputation by excluding people who throw around racist terms. To be taken seriously the community needs to meet certain standards which includes not calling people niggers. If you give me six lines written by the hand of the most honest of men, I will find something in them which will hang him. The most honest of men would have stripped himself of his ego and see each person on their merits, as equals. He wouldn't need to ever use the term nigger. Are black people who dislike orb using "nigger" appealing for a less honest society? You are attempting to intellectualize racism, please don't do it. Equating racism with a frustrated guy blurting out a word on the ladder belittles actual discrimination and injustices while at the same time putting restrictions on what other people can say, which is frankly none of our business. Calling someone a nigger is actual discrimination, but I don't think you believe what you're typing. There are all kinds of restrictions on speech, and even if you called a white guy a nigger you would get kicked out a private building, or cut off from the radio, or fired from your job, etc. whether said in anger or not, and you know that. This is partly because it reflects badly on those who condone it, this also applies to a community condoning racism making everyone else look bad. Why are you trying to tell me what I know? Yeah, the radio station would cut me off if I said nigger because it's a public airwave. That's why I'd be broadcasting on the internet to begin with. I have been in buildings and used the word nigger and the sun rose the next day. If I were a salesman, businessman, or politician, there's a lot of language I might use even "worse" than saying nigger without fear of reprimand. The world isn't really Disneyland.
Yeah, you really aren't helping orb's case here. Unfortunately these views on speech are exactly what leads to the types of problems in the fighting game community, which are thankfully curbed here by a more conservative moderation.

I have no idea who Orb is or what exactly happened in which context (OP should have given some info on that instead of just talking like everybody knows) but still nice to see that people take racism seriously and do something about it.

Orb isn't from the South, from as far as I can tell. Nor was he in a Southern surrounding. N-word doesn't 100% mean racism, no doubt. But you did not account for the context. Orb wasn't greeting a friend here. He has trying to insult a person. And he did so by calling the person black. Is it okay to think that being black is bad enough to be ashamed and insulted? Now I am just a simple country boy with no fancy African American History degree. But I know a racist behaviour (not saying orb is 100% KKK type racist) when I see it. I'm Asian. I've been there. the thing is i watch orbs stream regularly since beta, and i know 100% without a shadow of a doubt he is not racist. but ppl, that do not know him, are deeming him as a racist.
I watched orbs stream a couple of months ago and he actually called someone a nigger on stream (I haven't watch his stream since, but I am really surprised that nobody complained about his use of racist language earlier, I'm sure you could find a few posts in his stream thread, but overall nobody really cared until a few days ago). At that point it doesn't freaking matter what he claims to be, he regularly uses racist words to insult other people, I couldn't care less if he's actually racist or not, he sure as hell is promoting racism and at the very least accepting it as something "normal".

Hopefully orb has learned from this, and make a comeback in the scene. frequent? this is what im talking about. people have no clue on who orb actually is. i can litteraly count on 1 hand how many times he has said the N word. all of which were over a year ago.
Blatant lie. I watched his stream 2-3 months ago and he called his opponent a "nigga" after he lost the game. Stop bullshiting people.

At no point did I mention the use of racial slurs in my post. I'm curious to know, do you support nerd-rage and immature, disrespectful behavior as a norm in the community? it happens in all communities, not just this one. it doesnt matter if i accept it or not, i have to learn to deal with it because at the end of the day its just a computer game. So, no you don't support it, but you don't want anything to change, either? People should just keep being dicks to one another? im neutral to it, i dont are either way because its just a word. if u dont find it acceptable thats fine, but dont burn someone alive for it unless they use the term to a extreme, which orb did not. he used the term in the heat of the moment out of rage and never said it again.
He should not be lynched, but losing a job is a perfectly reasonable response to this situation.
Most people here agree that he is NOT a racist, Alex says so in the OP. I think Orb is a great caster, but he acted in a way which was completely unprofessional. Clearly he was not mature enough to handle losing some games without being able to control himself in a way that he is proud of. There is no reason, no matter how angry you are to use racist or homophobic language, it's just not an excuse. I don't understand why being angry makes someone say those things.
