orb is a CASTER - idra is a PLAYER. 2 very very different roles. As a caster you are public speaker. u dont act like a moron like orb does when he streams/plays.

It's a "cool story bro", the way I see it orb was just unlucky to be targeted by the /r/inquisition and moralfags, and unlucky that his boss was a scholar of "black studies"

this thread has honestly enrage me alot and i am on the virge of just leaving the community altogether. its sickening the lengths people will go to start drama just because of a silly word they dont like.
orb if you are reading this thread, which im sure you are, then dont beat yourself up over this. its just another example of how the community is stabbing themselves in the foot by starting stupid drama like this. people just cant let things go and its so fucking sad. why should we "let it go" i think the community did a good thing in the last couple of days, showing that racism and homophobia are completely unacceptable and hold our public figures to a higher standard of proffesionalism is a good thing in my opinion, i really dont understand how people can think its bad. no they did not. the community did a ignorant thing. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE GUY. you just assumed he was racist because of one screen shot from over a year ago. i bet 90% of the ppl in this thread do not even watch orbs stream regularly. the guy isnt racist and he has said NUMEROUS times (well before EG even knew he existed) that he wasnt racist and said he has black friends if im not mistaken. that is why its bad. you people do not know the guy and just jump to conclusions and assumptions purely to start drama. so yes its bad, because you deemed someone as racist when they are not racist. you accused someone as being a witch and burned them at the stake when in fact they are not a witch. thats why people, like you, dissapoint me because all you can do is jump to assumptions and conclusions based on small facts. doesnt matter if you know the guy or not, he said a word you dont like and he deserves to burn for it. so sad and so very ignorant. I dont care if he is not a racist, using racist and homophobic language is not acceptable and by definition bassically makes you a racist or a homophobe. I couldnt care less if he is a nice guy, he is a public figure and should be held to account. and idra is not? how about destiny? idra has used the word fag many time and said more offensive things than i can count. but he is still on EG, and do you know why? cuz idra makes EG money and since he makes them money that makes it ok. do you not find anything wrong or cynical or corrupted about that? because i do. destiny is not a member of EG, but HE IS a figure in the community. the guy went as far as to sexually harass a porn star (mia rose) LIVE on stream while he was drunk by grabbing her boobs numerous times. compared to what idra and destiny has done, orb is VERY tamed, especially since he only said the word once and it was over a year ago for fucks sake. ive covered this before, i think its unrealistic for idra to be fired he is worth 100x more than orb to EG and has gotten better recently in regards to homophobic language. If he uses the language i will say its unacceptable but i understand how business works and EG would be throwing away money if they fired idra. With regards to destiny he mostly supports himself from what i understand so he doesnt have much to lose but I will also say any racist homophobic language he uses is also unacceptable. That's the point. "Herpaderp, that language is 100% unacceptable! Herp, unless they earn us money, then it's fine lolz" oh god your a moron, its still unacceptable for idra to use the language and I will stil tweet and angry post about them but it is completely unrealistic for EG to fire idra, idra also doesnt deny what he has said and is making an effort to improve which i can appreciate. "Zero tolerance" (another way of saying 100% unacceptable) means termination on a single offense. It's not "Zero Tolerance" when someone gets away with it cause they make more money. it doesnt fucking matter how much he is worth. that is what is angering me so much. are you really going to put a price on these guys? do you know how BAD that looks for them? for YEARS idra has been offensive and BM to many, MANY people. and for YEARS he only gets slaped on the wrist. now all of a sudden you feel the need to burn someone alive for 1 silly mistake that he rarely ever makes?
do you see a connection here? idra calls someone a faggot people laugh there ass off, orb, who is worth nothing, calles someone a faggot and gets burned alive for his blaphesmy.. do you not see something wrong with that picture? do you not see how bad that looks for EG and Esports as a whole? you have one person being offensive and its acceptable and another person being chewed out for ONE thing that happened over a year ago. if you look at the picure as a whole then you will see that orb has been no where near as offensive as other top pros.
this incident happened over a year ago. orb has been more tamed and mellowed out alot more over the last few months WAY before idra. when orb was mellowing out idra was still BMing hardcore.
just because idra has mellowed out the last few months DOES NOT chang the fact that he was a offensive player for years upon years upon years.

I think that dismissing orb is a bit harsh. Although racism is a big issue he did not mean it to insult black people but just because he was raging on the ladder as many of us have. I think you have over reacted and missed out on a chance to have a great caster as part of EG because you seem to think that the N word kills all progress that has been made in equal opportunity when in actual fact in more recent times it has just become another insult that doesnt phase most people.

oh by coincidence i am reading an article about some teen in 2010 killing himself over being outted as a homosexual by his roomate. it happens. gay people get exposed, bullied on the internet, and become very depressed. happens to young teens mostly. funny isn't the young teen a big demographic for sc2 and esports?
i don't know if the consequences for calling someone a nigger are as dire, but im not a 4 year degreed sociologist so i wouldn't know

Understanding EGs decision is fine, but thinking it's OK to fire someone for something they did online in the past? WTF?
It's not only the fact of what he said in his past. He tried to lie to EG and say it was his "friends on another account". I think there was a little more to it than a few racial slurs from his past. If I was EG I wouldn't appreciate being lied to either.

No, you fail to understand. Mr EG is trying to take the moral high ground, and is using that as his basis to fire orb, yet is allowing someone else to completely ignore the same rules. I don't care how much idra earns EG, it's irrelevant. He's not "downsizing", it can't be justified by their relative values.

The fact of the matter is that Idra has been reprimanded for saying faggot repeatedly, while on EG's payroll, and Orb fired for saying nigger a couple times while not on EG's payroll. Do people not realize that calling someone a faggot is saying "I think you're worth so little you should be burned alive"? While neither insult is excusable, nigger doesn't hold any more or less meaning than faggot. The reactions to these are sickeningly overboard.
Honestly I'm disgusted and disappointed with everyone who partook in these events.

This is really dumb. Orb doesn't get a second chance, for something he did in the past before he was even an employee for EG. If he did do this while he was working for EG, then I MIGHT be able to understand immediately firing him. I would have given him a chance to apologize, realize the error of his ways and learn from them. He's talented as a caster, he's a good guy and his ladder rages are out of his normal character. All of the people who were contacting EG's sponsors telling them that they won't support Orb, were in effect destroying Orb's livelihood because he had a bad temper at some point in the past. I understand the word he used was racist and powerful and shouldn't be used, but Orb should be given a second chance, he deserves a second chance. This controversy scares me, as it means that anything in my past can make me lose my job in the future. If I've already proven my meddle, and proven my character, then this shouldn't be able to happen. The punishment is way too extreme.

Calling someone a nigger is actual discrimination, but I don't think you believe what you're typing. There are all kinds of restrictions on speech, and even if you called a white guy a nigger you would get kicked out a private building, or cut off from the radio, or fired from your job, etc. whether said in anger or not, and you know that. This is partly because it reflects badly on those who condone it, this also applies to a community condoning racism making everyone else look bad.

How about we start a crusade to remove TV and Radio hosts (for which orb is an SC2 equivalent) who use sexist, racist, and homophobe remarks from their position? Oh, wait, that's not called a crusade, it's called having some decency. Hell, perhaps more people in the Starcraft community accept the Rush Limbaugh types than I thought.

Double standard, good sir. He doesnt get away with it, he will get backlash from me but i cant fire him can I? I also understand economics and business which you seem to fail to, business has no morals so why would they get rid of something that makes them money? No, you fail to understand. Mr EG is trying to take the moral high ground, and is using that as his basis to fire orb, yet is allowing someone else to completely ignore the same rules. I don't care how much idra earns EG, it's irrelevant. He's not "downsizing", it can't be justified by their relative values.
Mr Garfield has to put the interests of EG first and Idra is a huge benefit to EG, he has punished idra for homophobic remarks before but i cant expect him to fire him, its not really double standards its common sense.
