What orb did was wrong and i understand EG's decision as a professional e-sports team, but its sad to see a talented caster like orb go for stupid things he did on ladder.
i rly hope orb finds another place where he can work.

Not only does he take stabs at French-Canadians, saying they do stupid builds and "seem a little bit off", he also uses "gay" and "gayness" in a clearly derogatory manner. I cannot even begin to count the number of times he says the word "retarded" as well, which is by some considered to be an offensive word when used in this manner. One has to wonder where these double standards come from, other than Garfield's personal issues with the magical "N-word".
Idra brings EG the $$ and Orb well............Didn't (ever thou he was with EG for less then a week).

Have you seen Idra do this in the last few months?

Not the mention that he is casting IEM right now... Garfield is a hypocrite. Idra is giving him money, thus it's ok to forgive. The worst part, it's that he's not giving money because of his results, but precisely because of his BM and the controversy around him.

Another thing is, what if Orb and/or his opponent were actually black? What if they are friends and just trolling themselves? Usualy people tolerate when two african-americans call themselves "nigger", how do you know they aren't black?
And another thing, I myself sometimes flame and I got opinions from many (actually MOST of the) viewers that they watch my stream MOSTLY because it's funny when and how I flame people. They feel amuzed by my semi-fake/semi-real rage. One can say I entertain people through funny flaming and insulting punch lines... Will I get banned too? Would I get banned even if 100 people signed under my stream that they like my raging?

Hypothetical:
I work for a respected law firm.
In my spare time, I play basketball and have a live stream of my games so the world can see my sweet moves on the blacktop.
During one of my ridiculous, ankle-breaking jukes, I get fouled.
I call the offending player a racial slur.
People on my stream are somewhat bemused by this.
They proceed to spread the footage across the Internet.
My boss sees it.
My firm's clients see it.
My firm's peers see it.
Judges see it.
How long do I remain employed?
That analogy doesn't work. Legal practice and basketball are two different areas. If a basketball commentator streamed himself playing basketball in his downtime and got caught yelling out a racial slur, I doubt he'd be fired. I mean, Charles Barkley called his producer a pussy on air and he didn't get fired.
Yes, *cough* pussy* vs. *cough* fucking nigger *cough*. Come on, this is obviously used in a different context, get real man.

You're comparing a serious business where a lot of your reputation makes or breaks your income with a half assed business like SC2 where people convince themselves that 5k viewers is a big accomplishment? Really? I dunno man, I don't see it. People like Idra actually profit from the controversy he creates. He'd had half the interest he had, if he was merely a polite Zerg laddering up and talking about the dog all the time. Same with this thread really, in the end Orb is gonna profit. Now people REALLY notice him and word gets around what he does. You can bet that his viewership will spike at least a little bit, simply because all the hypocrites will want to watch him fail another time. Welcome to the internet. Don't compare it to a law firm.

As you all say, it's about context and Debo and Destiny are friends and between them it's more like "what up my nigga" Plus, Orb is so geeky Debo would just call him a bitch, slap him and make him cry.
So not only are you accusing Debo of hypocrisy and making judgements of Orb based on a stereotype you just attached to him, you're now claiming Debo would assault someone over it, when in the video Debo says he doesn't care about racism in the slightest.
Uhmm yeah pretty much. I don't see much hypocrisy in a black guy getting mad at one white guy for saying "nigger" and not getting mad at another white guy for saying "nigga" though.
And are you saying you think Debo is an angel who would never lay a hand on anyone or judge them based on looks? Debo's a cool guy and reminds me of some guys I know and that's exactly what they'd do.

You are assuming it's as easy in every country as it is in America to fire people.
So if Alex was a gay studies major then Idra would be gone tomorrow right? I realize that the word carries a lot of weight, especially with certain people, but if its something Orb said over a year ago then I think this is pretty much a complete over-reaction. People have said the word before not because they are a racist, but because they know it will really piss off recipient. Could have been the case with Orb, I dont know the circumstances there...
I still stand by the fact that if its something he said long before he was affiliated with EG, then this is an over-reaction and the wrong move IMO. Of course Alex is the CEO so I respect his decision as well, just wouldnt have been my own.

I think if Debo was beating a stranger on ladder and they called him a dumb nigger, he'd be pissed.
I know this post probably won't be read, but I feel so strongly about this type of thing that I felt compelled to respond.
I agree 100% with the response from EG. I don't think it has much to do with sponsors and more with the philosophy of its CEO. To anyone who thinks this is an overreaction or the wrong decision I can only hope you one day realize that this type of language is not wanted, needed, or appropriate in any context. While it may not offend you or the one black guy you know, it is very offensive to most intelligent, successful people. If you want to succeed in life and be a better human being, stop acting the fool.

Although we have a kind of similar thing in germany, where you basically shot yourself in the foot if you use the word Hitler in nearly any context to a contemporary event or any person... it basically doesn't matter what you say, just never ever draw any connection to the 3rd Reich ever.
Anyway, I really cannot understand the huge implication using this single word can have, but I guess when sponsors getting harassed over this, action is necessary.
Um, ever had someone call someone else Jew? I've heard that once or twice and cringed badly at the sound of it. We do have the same "one word is really bad" feature, it's just that we had the lesson beaten into our culture a lot stronger than americans have, hence you don't hear it for the most part.
I feel the need to clarify, Jew in itself is of course not a racist expression, but used as a clear insult, it gets a whole different meaning in Germany.
Interesting, if this is the self as in the OP, this could be closely the same. I hear sometimes calling someone a jew and I also cringe at that, but have not made the connection to the nigger incident, until maybe now. I just don't have any background in how the nigger word is used over there and why it is so extremely bad, I just lack the cultural background. For jew in germany it is of course obvious to me, although I find it such an incredibly stupid insult, since jews are just a group of people to me without any negative connotation. Just the recognition that it is meant as an insult makes me uncomfortable though, so this could be pretty close to this situation. But I just don't know.
Just as an American who's lived in Germany but still doesn't have the greatest grasp of German culture (only lived there for a couple of years, when I was young) I'd say it's very similar, maybe practically the same. The word is used for black people themselves but also used as an insult for people who aren't black, to imply that they have the general negative characteristics of a black person, or are just generally a bad person (presumably like a black person).
It's a little bit different because in Germany it's more recent and there might be more of a sense of overt guilt. It's hard to specify exactly what I mean when I say that, but Germany has one of the most liberal immigration/refugee policies in Europe, for example. And that's mainly because so many Jews had to flee the country during the holocaust that German politicians feel obligated to return the favor in that sense. But if you look at something like affirmative action in the U.S. and well, it still exists but people are very critical of it and it's actually been scaled back quite dramatically.
As you all say, it's about context and Debo and Destiny are friends and between them it's more like "what up my nigga" Plus, Orb is so geeky Debo would just call him a bitch, slap him and make him cry.
